George Takei had to have a cancer removed from his cheek last week after his doctor detected early signs of skin cancer

George Takei has been fighting skin cancer.

The 77-year-old actor - best known for his role as Hikaru Sulu in sci-fi series 'Star Trek' - has revealed he had a cancer removed from his cheek last week after his doctor detected early signs of the disease.

According to The Sun newspaper, George said: ''I went to my doctor for my physical last week and he detected an early skin cancer here. He cut it out and that's why I'm wearing this.''

The star revealed the news at the Voices on Point charity gala last night (14.09.14), where he wore a bandage on his cheek.

He also joked the reason he was sporting the dressing had nothing to do with his husband Brad Altman.

George - who has been married to Brad since 2008 - quipped: ''Let me assure you, my husband did not knock me out.''

George and Brad also celebrated their sixth wedding anniversary on Sunday after tying the knot at the Democracy Forum of the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles.

The pair were believed to be the first same-sex couple to apply for a marriage licence in West Hollywood.

Last month, George admitted that while he and Brad - who he has been with for 27 years - sometimes argue, they always make sure they kiss each other before they go to sleep.

He said: ''We have a pact that we've made. When you're together, you're gonna have differences, you're gonna have quibbles, sometimes arguments.

''But no matter what, every night before we go to bed, we kiss each other. Sometimes it's difficult. Sometimes it's just a perfunctory.''

Kim Kardashian West says she and husband Kanye West are ''trying'' for another baby

Kim Kardashian West is ''trying'' for another baby.

The 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' star and husband Kanye West are keen for their 14-month-old daughter North to have a sibling and say it is in ''God's hands'' when it will happen.

Asked if she wants to have more children, Kim said: ''We're trying ... I guess it's, like, all in God's hands.''

And the 33-year-old beauty believes she has changed a lot since becoming a mother.

She told Australia's 'Today' show: ''[Motherhood] has changed me so much.

''Just everything has been put into perspective and nothing really matters more than spending time with your family and only doing the things that are really important to you.''

Kim is currently travelling through Australia to support Kanye on his tour and never gets tired of watching him on stage.

She said: ''It's so fascinating to see him up on stage, and it's so powerful to watch him perform.''
Meanwhile, the socialite insisted she no longer gets upset when she is criticised for her fashion choices.

Speaking of the floral gown she wore for the 2013 Met Gala, she said: ''I loved it, and I thought it was so cool, but it got a lot of criticism really and I didn't care for that because I loved it.

''If [I] really have passion for something, I don't care about the criticism.''

Can Jackie Chan save his son from jail?

Kai Ko and Jaycee Chan continue to hog headlines even after a month after being busted for smoking marijuana. Kai was released from detention after a two-week stint but Jaycee remains in detention even after 31 days.

After getting arrested on August 14, marijuana was uncovered at Jaycee’s home and he admitted to providing a location for others to smoke it. He has also admitted to smoking marijuana for the past eight years.

Although no official word has been given on Jaycee’s situation, insiders say that he is likely to be sentenced mid-September and will likely face a jail term.

His parents, superstar Jackie Chan and Lin Feng Jiao are reportedly trying all means to get their son acquitted. Jaycee faces a maximum imprisonment of three years if convicted of his crimes.

The worried parents have only been able to speak to their son through their lawyer, the latter whom has met Jaycee thrice. He shared that Jaycee is facing the consequences with a calm heart and has asked after both his parents and Kai.

The parents have explained that they will respect the final decision made by the courts but are unable to give up on their son. They are said to have been anxiously holding meetings with lawyers in Beijing to build a case for Jaycee.

An insider revealed that despite their best efforts, the two may be facing an uphill task as China has announced war against corruption and drug-related offences this year. Jackie has since returned to his busy schedule but has avoided all questions pertaining to his son.

The Taiwanese singer said the two had differing mindsets towards handling issues

Close to nine months after her split from Taiwanese actor Kai Ko, songbird Elva Hsiao finally revealed the actual reason behind that decision. She said Kai had hoped for her to let go of her idol-status and be free of all burdens when spending time with him.

However, Elva insisted she has her own way of thinking and refused to be someone under his control. Also, the 35-year-old emphasised her age gap between herself and 23-year-old Kai, and the way they handled matters were greatly influenced by friends of the same age, causing them to drift apart.

Her family and friends were also worried over the May-December romance, indirectly putting pressure on her. But she has never regretted being in a two-year relationship with Kai and firmly believes in “having the courage to love if the feeling is right”.

Currently dating rumoured beau Elroy Cheo, Elva’s relationship status has been in the limelight and she admitted to feeling stressed over the public gaze. Kai and Elva were previously said to be “better off as strangers” after the split but she has been encouraging him on social media after his drug abuse case.

Mark Chao meets ex at press conference

We bet Taiwanese-Canadian actor Mark Chao wished he could avoid attending the press conference for upcoming movie Black & White: The Dawn of Justice, in which his ex-girlfriend Janine Chang also has a role in.

The two, who were present at Wednesday’s press conference in Taipei, appeared awkward throughout the session and did not speak to each other at all.

It is the first time former couple, who had dated for a year, are meeting since Mark registered his marriage with Chinese actress Gao Yuanyuan in June.

When speaking with the media, Mark, who has been playing the role of “Hero” since the first Black & White drama in 2009, revealed that his secret to maintaining his looks is to “remove make-up well and completely”.

Speaking of his “weight gain”, the 30-year-old explained it was due to “swelling from the lack of sleep” but he feels happy despite his busy schedule lately.

The actor also revealed he has been seeing less of Yuanyuan due to work but they call and text each other and meet up whenever possible.

The couple has yet to hold a banquet but Mark shared that it won’t be anytime soon as he is still busy.
He added, “We will find time and let you guys know,” then joked that he is open to inviting everyone present to the banquet.

While Janine gave her well-wishes to her ex-beau on his marriage, she is not keen on getting married yet.

She said, “It’s too early for me but I’m happy for him. If time permits, I will (attend his banquet) but if I have work then I can’t.”

Kai Ko may be cut from Tiny Times 4

The jury is still out on the fate of Kai Ko’s entertainment career, with the spotlight being put on his upcoming movie, Tiny Times 4. The actor starred in three prequels in the wildly popular franchise, which also stars actresses Yang Mi and Amber Kuo.

Director Guo Jingming attended the press conference of an upcoming Guangdong Television reality show, Road to Star, on which he will be one of the three judges. In response to queries on whether Kai’s scenes will be retained in the final version, he expressed that no decision has been made yet but that there is a possibility that his scenes may be partially or even fully cut from the film. He stressed that they will do their best to allow viewers to watch the full movie.

He also revealed that he has spoken to Kai recently, but it was on a wholly personal context. He declined to comment if he had found a replacement for the 23-year-old actor.

Taiwanese singer Annie Yi, who divorced Harlem Yu in 2009, was also revealed to be one of the judges. In her first public appearance after her high-profile proposal from fiancé Qin Hao, she was grilled on whether she got pregnant deliberately in order to force the marriage on him.

She rejected all rumours and declared that she will not give birth to any children outside of marriage. When probed further on her wedding day, she coyly quipped, “I won’t tell you.”

Cyndi Wang’s beau rejects her plastic surgery rumours

Taiwanese singer Cyndi Wang sparked plastic surgery rumours when she posted a selfie on her microblog. Netizens commented that her jawline looks significantly sharper and smaller as compared to her past photos.

Her boyfriend, Yao Yuan Hao, declared at a sports brand’s press conference, “(she) really hasn’t gone under any plastic surgery!” sharing that he also looks significantly different from five years ago. “I’ve seen my female friends go under the knife and they always have wounds on their face. Plastic surgery requires a recovery period and her schedule is so full that she definitely has no time for it.”

Cyndi previously admitted that plastic surgery rumours affect her, with Yuan Hao admitting that she has been feeling rather low as of late. As a dutiful boyfriend, he has been consoling with her with his words, “They’re jealous that you’re too pretty and take too good care of yourself.”

He shared that he does not oppose girls going under the knife, as long as it gives them more confidence and does not affect their health. The two admitted to rekindling their romance in 2013 but Yuan Hao stressed that the two are putting the focus on their respective careers and that marriage is not yet on the cards.
