Carina Lau to become a film producer

After dabbling in the fashion, furniture and food and beverages industries, Hong Kong actress Carina Lau is ready to try her hand as a movie producer.

The actress attended the opening of a friend’s restaurant recently and shared that she has decided to stop investing in her other businesses and venture into film-making, due to the robust Chinese film market.

She will be setting up her own film company later this year after she wraps up a couple of projects on hand, including the sequel for Young Detective Dee.

The 51 year-old will be taking up the position of a producer and shared that she is not interested in becoming a director, as “it is too tiring.”

“Being a producer allows me to immerse myself in the film, and my life experiences will be the blueprint of the film,” she said.

Carina also shared that she most definitely will cast her husband, fellow actor Tony Leung in her self-produced movie if there are roles suitable for him. “I’ll pay him and even give him bonus, I’m not taking no for an answer!” she said.

She added jokingly, “Maybe he won’t be allowed to go home, because he’s fine with that anyway.” Carina and Tony tied the knot in 2008 in Bhutan after dating for more than a decade.
