Ruby Lin set to work on first drama since becoming a mother

Taiwanese actress Ruby Lin is all set to make her comeback to the acting scene after giving birth to her bundle of joy in January this year.

The 41-year-old will be the female lead in an upcoming drama titled My Boy (unofficial translation), with filming scheduled to start in May this year. Ruby will also be doubling up as the producer for the drama.

As the actress’s previous drama, The Way We Were, which she also produced and starred in, was a commercial hit, Ruby admitted that she did feel the pressure to produce an equally well-received drama this time round.

However, the pressure was actually “pressure from myself, not the public”. Ruby also revealed that when she heard the script was written by award-winning scriptwriter Mag Hsu, she agreed to star in the drama without even reviewing the script. She shared that she has since met up with her co-star, Taiwanese actor Derek Chang, twice.

The duo will play a couple in a May-December relationship, with Ruby remarking that Derek was a good fit for the role, as he is someone who “can appear boyish and manly at the same time”.

As for Derek, the 24-year-old laughingly shared that he was at the dentist when he received the news that he got the role. At that time, he couldn’t help but to yell in happiness. “After watching Apple in Your Eye [which was written by Mag Hsu], I’ve always wanted to act in a drama written by her.

But I never thought that my dream would come true so soon, [so] I’m super happy,” the actor shared. Derek also sang the praises of Ruby, describing the actress as “someone with a good personality and gentle”. He admitted that he felt nervous about working with Ruby, as he had never thought that he’d be able to act alongside her.
