Wilber Pan becomes labelmates with Jolin Tsai
Taiwanese singer Wilber Pan became a free agent in 2015, after his contract with music label Universal Music Taiwan expired after 13 years.
Although many other labels approached Wilber to sign him at that time, all the offers inexplicably fell through.
Recently, new rumours have surfaced reporting that the 36-year-old has signed with Warner Music Taiwan, making him labelmates with fellow Taiwanese singers Jolin Tsai and Kenji Wu.
Yesterday (March 19), Warner Music Taiwan’s chairman Sam Chen confirmed the rumours, revealing in a statement that Wilber has indeed signed with his label. “According to what I’ve heard, many different record labels were vying for Wilber, but our creative team finally manage to persuade him (to join us). Wilber will be bringing in NT$500 million (approximately S$23 million) for our company yearly,” he said.
As the label already has three male singers – JJ Lin, Jam Hsiao and Kenji Wu – under its wings, Sam reassured everyone that even with the addition of Wilber, everyone will still be treated equally. Sam also revealed that he hopes to organise a world tour for Wilber in the days to come.
When asked to comment on the matter, Wilber would only say that he “relied on his instincts”.
He shared that he did not ask for the opinion of his good friend, Jolin Tsai, before joining the company, and that he had discussed his contract three times with Sam before signing on the dotted line.
