Netizens were unsatisfied with the dancing king of Asia Show Luo’s first performance at the 26th Golden Melody Awards in Taiwan last weekend, but the host of long running popular Taiwanese variety show GUESS Jacky Wu said otherwise.
Jacky, who performed at the Golden Melody Awards two years ago, wrote an encouraging note to 35-year-old Show (who walked off the stage crying) in a Facebook post yesterday, “Xiao Zhu! (Show’s pet name) Your performance was very successful… Eason Chan, A-Mei and Harlem Yu’s dancing skills don’t even measure up to 10 per cent of yours.”
The 52-year-old added, “When I was under great pressure [performing at the 2013 Golden Melody Awards], I was near the brink of tears too… But I didn’t shed a tear at all throughout the show. I couldn’t cry, because I am a comedian. You cried, and that’s okay, because you’re an idol!”
He continued to encourage Show in his post by reminding him that it took Andy Lau many years of acting in shows to achieve his Best Actor award and reassured him: “I believe that one day, you will be able to stand on stage as an award winner! Then you can cry even harder about that, because we recognise all of the hard work that you have put in.”
At this year’s awards show, Show was scheduled to perform right after the front runner of the Cantopop music scene Eason Chan and felt pressurised to deliver an equally astounding performance. Show posted on Facebook to clarify the reason for his tears that night: “The moment I walked off the stage, the suppressed emotions, nervousness and pressure, as well as the frustrations that I’ve had in the past were all released!”
