Jane Zhang’s onstage proposal called a publicity stunt

After boldly declaring her intentions to marry her long-time boyfriend, Feng Ke (Michael), in July, Chinese pop singer Jane Zhang (Zhang Liangying) received a live proposal from him at her concert on Saturday night.

But the romantic gesture has been called a publicity stunt for the celebrity’s sponsors, as the couple are rumoured to have quietly registered their marriage way back in August.

During Jane’s concert in Chengdu, China, Feng Ke, the co-founder of the artiste management company Beijing Show City Times Entertainment, went on bended knee with a large diamond ring to cheers from Jane’s fans. Before that, he sang ‘To My All’ to her onstage, a song he wrote the lyrics to.

Jane later posted a photo of the ring on Weibo and wrote, “Feng Ke said he had so much to tell me back there, but his mind went blank onstage. For a tone-deaf person to sing a song he wrote for me before a thousands-strong live audience, I’m content.”

Responding to accusations that the proposal was an advertising gimmick, Jane’s management company issued a statement saying: “The rumours are unfounded. We hope everyone can find happiness.”
