Jay Chou’s London concert sells out in 20 minutes

Taiwanese singer Jay Chou announced previously that he will be holding a concert at The SSE Arena, Wembley (also known as Wembley Arena) in London next year on March 18 and the highly coveted tickets were promptly snatched up by the singer’s fans in 24 minutes.

Due to the overwhelming response, Jay added an additional concert slot a day before, on March 17, making him the first and only Chinese singer to require additional shows when performing at Wembley Arena, which can seat 12,500 people. The tickets for the second show sold out within 20 minutes, with 12,000 fans still on the waiting list.

Although the 35 year-old was more than willing to add more show dates for his fans, the iconic London concert arena was already fully booked for other performances prior to Jay’s concert dates.

Wembley Arena has also played host to big names in the music scene which include The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Taiwan’s rock band Mayday, Hong Kong singer Jacky Cheung and Korean boyband Big Bang.

Being the first artiste after Big Bang to perform additional shows, Jay manage to rake in a total of NTD 1.5 billion (approximately S$6.7 million) from sales of the concert tickets.

However, even before Jay planned a concert in London, the singer has always been known to be fond of England’s architecture and environment, which is evidently shown in a number of his music videos. He even tied the knot with Taiwanese model Hannah Quinlivan in a cathedral in North Yorkshire, England in January 2015.
