The planet Sakaar will be heavily featured in 'Thor: Ragnarok'.
Director Taika Waititi has confirmed that the planet - which is a home
to refugees from other worlds due to its location next to a wormhole in
space - will be vital to the new movie, which stars Chris Hemsworth as
the titular hero.
Speaking to Total Film, he said:" Sakaar was just an insane, far-off,
futuristic place which was the biggest shift for the film and these
characters...I was really excited when Kevin [Feige] and the rest of
Marvel jumped on board with the idea to use [Jack] Kirby as a big
influence in the design of the film. What's really hard is staying
authentic."
The movie will see The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) try to help his Avengers teammate with a huge threat looming over Asgard.
And in the 'Planet Hulk' comic storyline, Sakaar is where Thor reunites with The Hulk.
Meanwhile Taika recently insisted he wanted to make an "awesome"
standalone film so did not pay much attention to 2011's 'Thor' or 2013's
'Thor: The Dark World', and admitted he has "no idea" whether his
motion picture with blend with the first two.
In a Reddit AMA, he wrote: "I made an effort to ignore the fact there are other Thor films.
"I honestly know NOTHING outside of what I'm doing. I'm trying to ignore
the rest of the universe and just make my own awesome movie.
"It will be a nice addition to the Taika Waititi box-set though. (sic)"
