Miley Cyrus let her homeless friend accept her prize at the MTV Video Music Awards last night (24.08.14).
The
'Wrecking Ball' singer was given the Video of the Year gong at the
ceremony in Los Angeles, but 22-year-old Jesse was invited to accept the
honour on her behalf.
An in emotional speech, he said: ''I am
accepting this award for the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth in
the United States who are starving, lost and scared for their lives
right now.
''I know this because I'm one of those people. I've
survived in shelters all over the city. I've cleaned your hotel rooms,
I've been an extra in your movies, I've been an extra in your life.
''Although I've been invisible to you I have a lot of the same dreams that have brought me to you tonight.''
He
then directed fans to visit Miley's official Facebook page, where a
statement was posted encouraging people to help ''end youth
homelessness''.
In a statement, she wrote: ''Help me raise awareness and funds to end youth homelessness!
''This
is just the beginning for me, but we're going to get started now by
focusing on My Friend's Place, a homeless center for young people in
Hollywood.''
