Christine Fan and her husband Chen Chien Chou, commonly referred to as Blackie, will be having twins together.
Blackie announced and discussed the pregnancy on TVBS's "Something About Work". The couple became pregnant in June and are expecting their twins to be born in February.
Fan Fan and Blackie have felt the pressure to have kids after being married for 3 years. "A
lot of people were concerned, but a lot were also cynical. They'd ask
if Fan Fan was infertile or if I wasn't able to fulfill my
responsibilities to her," he said.
To help them get pregnant,
the couple decided to pursue in vitro fertilization (IVF). In May of
this year, the two attempted IVF for the first time, but it was
unsuccessful. Blackie described this as a time of great sadness for
them.
In June, the couple tried to get pregnant again. This time,
doctors suggested that in addition to IVF, the couple have sexual
intercourse to increase the odds of a successful insemination. This
time, the couple's attempt was successful.
After announcing their pregnancy, some of their friends were critical
of their decision to use artificial insemination methods to get
pregnant. While Fan Fan and Blackie are happy to be having twins,
Blackie expressed the difficulties they've faced to get to this point.
"We
tried everything to have children. We prayed to have a child. We didn't
expect our announcement to be met with so much misunderstanding and
apologize for it," he said.
Fan Fan plans on having a cesarean section when her twins are ready to be delivered.
