Chinese actors Fan Bingbing, 34, and Li Chen, 37, denied they had held an engagement party at a hotel in Yantai city, China, contrary to rumours that they had.
The public relations director of Bingbing’s work studio denied the occasion was an engagement party, saying, “It was just a simple family dinner, it’s the hotel that’s trying to speculate and gain publicity from this.” A representative for Li Chen denied the engagement rumours too.
On Wednesday an Internet user posted a series of photos, including group shots of Bingbing and Li Chen with their families and security footage of the couple out and about, and claimed that the actors had gotten engaged in Yantai.
Not long after that, another netizen said Bingbing and Li Chen had held an engagement party in Yantai, and photos posted showed cakes and flowers on dining tables and footage of the couple kissing flashed on a giant screen.
When they heard the screen stars were headed their way, the hotel staff reportedly went above and beyond, putting together a slideshow for the couple. After realising it was a misunderstanding, the actors requested the hotel staff to remove the material.
Bingbing and Li Chen went public with their relationship last May.
