After her last project Fighting Spiders in 2009, Ezann Lee disappeared from local showbiz and rarely made any public appearances. This July, the 33-year-old actress will return to our TV screens with new Channel 5 series Premonition. The drama also stars Taiwanese actor Johnny Lu, LUSH 99.5FM DJ Rosalyn Lee and local actor Timothy Nga.

During a set visit to old Beach Road Police Station last month, Toggle caught up with Ezann who was happy to share about her current work status as a freelance artiste. From the get-go, however, we were told to refrain from prying into her personal life or her elder sister Ericia Lee’s (who tied the knot in January).

In 2012, Ezann graduated with a Bachelor of Business Management from Singapore Institute of Management and has since been “bumming around” for two years. Earlier this year, the actress ran into Gavin Lim, director of Fighting Spiders and Premonition, who casually asked if she was still keen in acting.

“So I said: Yeah, why not?” Ezann replied with a smile.

At the time of the interview, the petite actress had started filming for about a month and was finally getting used to acting in front of the cameras again. “It was difficult to adapt. At first, I was quite rusty but it’s better now,” she laughed.

That night, Ezann and her co-stars had to film an accident scene which involved an overturning car and explosives. “It would probably be the toughest scene because I don’t know what to expect. I have never done action scenes before,” added the actress.

In the drama, Ezann plays the role of Sasha, a woman who has to deal with a manipulative uncle and husband, Jonah (Johnny), who is a problem gambler and compulsive liar. Married for 10 years, the couple’s attempts to conceive have been unsuccessful, leading to a stagnant relationship. To make things worse, Sasha has a nagging suspicion that Jonah is cheating on her.

Because of her circumstances, the former damsel in distress grows to become a tenacious woman who stands up for herself. When asked if the character bears any similarities to her real-life personality, Ezann said: “Sometimes I can be nice and gentle, and in cases where I need to be tough and firm, I will be. I guess we are similar in some ways.”

Singing praises of the other cast members, Ezann lauded Johnny for being “very professional and easy-going” while complimenting Rozz on her impressive acting debut. “We only have a few lines together, but she is very good,” she reiterated.

Ezann, who is not signed to any company at the moment, has no plans to return to showbiz full-time just yet. In the meantime, the freelance actress is eager to take on other acting opportunities (even psycho roles) that come along.
