Long-running Korean variety programme We Got Married recently announced the departure of two of its three couples, Song Jae Rim & Kim So Eun and Super Junior-M’s Henry & Jewelry’s Yewon.
With that, the show confirmed that it was in the process of scouting two fresh couples to complement CNBLUE’s Jonghyun and actress Gong Seung Yeon. It was earlier confirmed that BTOB’s Sungjae would join the show, with Red Velvet’s Joy’s identity only revealed today (June 3).
The pair has filmed their first meeting today, with netizens expressing mixed reactions to the news. Sungjae is now a rising star after wowing audiences with his singing on Mask King, where celebrities compete while donning full-face masks so that their identities will not be revealed until they are eliminated.
In addition, his acting chops in his leading role in currently-airing drama Who Are You - School 2015 has also earned the approval of many.
The pair has become one of the show’s youngest couples, with Sungjae and Joy born in 1995 and 1996 respectively. Some have expressed their anticipation on how the young couple will be able to inject a breath of fresh air into the show, which has suffered in ratings, which were in part caused by controversies by the couples that are leaving the show.
We Got Married has yet to confirm when their first episode will air.
