Ady An cries over mural Shone An promised to show her

Taiwanese actress Ady An was in New York for work matters and purposely stayed in town for a few more days. The 34-year-old posted on Weibo and appeared to be in a lot of emotional pain still, nearly a month after her very close friend, actor Shone An, passed away from liver cancer on June 1.

Ady recalled their trip to New York together last September and wrote in her post, “That day, we split up to explore two different places and when we reunited, he proudly showed me a photo of him standing in front of a pair of white wings painted on the mural wall behind him. He also said that he would bring me there to take photographs.”

Although she was unfamiliar with the place, Ady decided to search for the same wall and succeeded with the help of a single photograph. However, she arrived to discover that the mural of the white wings was no longer there and it is now replaced with a colourful array of spray painted hearts.

“The wings are now gone because he’s already flown away with them. Yes, it’s true that angels need their wings! And what he’s left behind for me is his massive amount of love,” she wrote.

Eason Chan wants to take a break from music

Esteemed Hong Kong singer Eason Chan, who won his second Best Mandarin Male Singer award (he won his first award in 2003) at the 26 Golden Melody Awards Ceremony, confided that he hasn’t had a break since 2008.

At the post-show party last Saturday, he explained that he has been touring non-stop throughout the years and his work calendar is packed all the way to 2016.

Eason explanation came about after he was quoted for saying that he “doesn’t want to work anymore” on a variety show, which was speculated to be his retirement announcement.

Setting the record straight, the 40-year-old clarified that he “absolutely will not retire”, although he acknowledged that he wants to take a break from music and do things that are not related to work.

“Maybe I would like to sing again after a week of rest,” said Eason, in reply to questions on the duration of his break.

What plans does he have during his break? “I would like to try hands on to make a guitar out of a plain wood; or I will accompany my daughter who’s going for further studies overseas. This is what I call life,” chuckled Eason, adding that he yearns to experience country life too.

Katy Perry battles nuns for property

Katy Perry is locked in a real estate battle with a group of nuns.

The 'Roar' hitmaker is reportedly keen to snap up the hilltop property in Los Angeles for over $14 million after securing a deal with Archbishop Jose Gomez.

However, the five sisters of the convent are believed to have sorted their own sale on the property to businessman Dana Hollister - who wants to turn it into a boutique hotel - for $1 million more than Katy offered.

The nuns and the Archbishop are now said to be battling over who owns the rights to the building.

Katy reportedly visited the nuns to try and win them over with a gospel rendition of 'Oh Happy Day' as well as proving her commitment to the faith by showing off her religious wrist tattoo.

Of their meeting, Sister Rita Callanan told TODAY: "Our days have not been happy since then, I can assure you."

The nuns also felt it was necessary for the group to find out who Katy Perry was, so they tuned into her Super Bowl half time show earlier this year.

Speaking of Katy's performance - where she flew over the stadium atop a shooting star - Sister Rita said: "I thought, is that a way to make money?

"Maybe I could fly around. I could be the flying nun."

Investigations begin in No Min Woo vs S.M. case

Singer-turned-actor No Min Woo filed a lawsuit against his former label, S.M. Entertainment, in May, reportedly for the broadcast ban imposed on him alongside his former 17-year slave contract.

Having been TRAX’s drummer from 2004 to 2006, No Min Woo’s legal representatives claimed that he signed a 17-year contract due to S.M.’s unilateral terms for contract extension. Citing industry norms of contracts spanning a maximum of seven years, they continued that a contract of such length could be cancelled at any time by the artiste according to the Fair Trade Commission’s rules.

In addition, they shared that No Min Woo’s activities were halted once he showed signs of resistance towards his contract terms and that the label took active measures to block him from appearing on broadcast.

While S.M. previously shot down the accusations as groundless, investigations have formally begun on the case, with the Seoul Federal Trade Commission calling for No Min Woo and a representative from S.M. to present their sides of the story before proceeding further.

No Min Woo was in several supporting roles prior to his more prominent second male lead casting in 2010’s My Girlfriend is a Nine Tailed Fox (Lee Seung Gi, Shin Min Ah). His last role was as the lead character in MBC Drama’s My Unfortunate Boyfriend.

Show Luo breaks down after Golden Melody performance

Taiwanese singer Show Luo performed for the first time at the prestigious Golden Melody Awards on Saturday (June 27). The segment, which consisted a 10-minute medley of Show’s famed dance tracks, reportedly amounted to production fees worth NT$1.8 million (approximately S$80,000).

Although his fans were supportive with their loud cheers, Show was heavily pressurised about taking the stage following a lauded performance by acclaimed Hong Kong singer Eason Chan.

Show was reportedly so stressed out that he burst into tears after his segment. His good friend, Jolin Tsai is also said to have gone backstage to give him a big hug as encouragement.

Afterwards, netizens made comparisons between Eason and Show’s performances. Some labelled Show as “the weakest link” among all performers, some criticised him for lacking the calibre to perform at such an esteemed event while some even accused him of lip-syncing.

Later that night, Show took to social media to explain why he broke down. He wrote: “The moment I walked off the stage, the suppressed emotions, nervousness and pressure, as well as the frustrations that I’ve had in the past, were all released!”

Lizzy Caplin's social media ban

Lizzy Caplin bans herself from social media.

The 'Masters of Sex' star refuses to use Facebook or Twitter because she wants to get acting jobs on her own merit rather than her popularity.

She said: "I've never been on Twitter, Facebook, Myspace or Instagram. I know myself well enough to know that I would spend far too much time obsessing over a tweet or a photo or an opinion. I understand I'm part of a business, that it's not driven just by artistic integrity. You have to take into account the commerce.

"But being online is not my job. My job is to convince you that I'm somebody else. The less people know about me, the better I'm allowed to be at my job. I don't want to get a job because I have 500,000 Twitter followers. I want to get a job because I earned it."

The 32-year-old actress has no problems with stripping off in front of the cameras.

She added to Playboy magazine: "It's certainly not boring. They give us pretty intense stuff to do.

"A standard-issue sex scene is one thing, but standing completely naked and masturbating in front of someone is quite another. Arrgh. All that stuff we did in the second season is just now coming back to me."

INFINITE’s Sungjong’s Real Men cuts revealed

Photos and videos of INFINITE’s Sungjong on the set of Real Men emerged, with the maknae (youngest member) of the group looking all grown up in his army uniform. The show has spawned many breakout variety stars after their respective runs on the show, including Super Junior-M’s Henry and ZE:A’s Hyungsik.

Earlier this year, a blind item about a boy group member who came out to his members was published, with many speculating that the unidentified person was Sungjong. Prior to this, many have also suspected that the effeminate member was gay.

While their label Woollim Entertainment has never paid these rumours any attention, some fans have pointed out that the 21-year-old has been emotionally scarred over these rumours to the point where his personality has changed.

Many lauded the news of his casting on the upcoming season of Real Men, saying that it would be a good opportunity for him to show his earnestness and dispel negative rumours about him. While the episodes have yet to be aired, still cuts from his time in the army released by broadcaster MBC show him hard at work while in the army, much like any other solider.

The first episode of Real Men featuring Sungjong will air on June 28.

Hallyu star reportedly investigated for drug use

Korean news agency The Fact reported today (June 26) that a staff member of a large entertainment company tested positive for drug use, and that a top-level Hallyu star is also being investigated on similar charges.

The staff member was arrested on June 22 at Incheon International Airport for suspected cocaine use and subsequently tested positive for drug use. According to The Fact, the suspect has named a celebrity from the same agency as someone who uses cocaine with him.

While there have been no names revealed, they went on to say that the star’s name was publicly recognised and that the substance abuse took place on numerous occasions, in secret locations out of the public’s view.

Following the report, netizens have named celebrities that were seen at Incheon International Airport on that day, which include BIGBANG, Super Junior, T-ARA and EXO. Others have also pointed out that while those stars were pictured at the airport, staff members do not always travel with the artistes.

JJ Lin’s LINE chat with mystery woman exposed

After Singapore singer JJ Lin was spotted with a mystery woman rumoured to be his girlfriend last week, someone who claimed to be friends with the woman in question exposed a screenshot of their conversation yesterday, stirring up speculations about an ambiguous relationship between JJ and the 21-year-old university student.

From the chat log, there was a line that read: “My wrist watch is in your bathroom,” revealing that the woman had stayed at his house before, including other parts of the conversation which showed that she even celebrated her 21st birthday there.

After this, the mystery woman responded by saying that the screenshot was posted up by her friend without her permission. When asked about whether or not she is angry with her friend for doing this, she replied, “I’m just worried about whether JJ will be affected or hurt, but I also feel that this needs to be clarified.”

She continued to say that she is still friends with him even after this incident. On the other hand, JJ’s agency said that they will not respond to this matter.

JJ and his rumoured girlfriend were spotted at a beef noodle restaurant last Monday. When JJ realised that they were being photographed, he left the restaurant after paying the bill. However, the both of them emphasised that they are just friends.

Cheryl Wee: from self-starved starlet to empowered entrepreneur

After missing out on season two of Mata Mata due to commitments in Taiwan (more on that in a bit), local actress Cheryl Wee is back in the third instalment of the Channel 5 period drama, titled A New Generation. The series, which is set in the 1980s, also stars Desmond Tan, Oon Shu An, Daren Tan and Alaric Tay.

This time, she plays the daughter of her previous character ASP Elizabeth Lee, Joyce Goh, who has followed in her mother’s footsteps to join the police force. “She’s a little bit of an awkward geek,” Cheryl explained to Toggle during our interview on set in Penang, adding that “it feels like home” to be back on the show again.

We don’t think she’s speaking just figuratively. From April to December last year, the Music and Movement artiste, 28, was living on her own in Taipei, where she signed with Gin Star Entertainment (which manages stars like Amber An, Anthony Neely and Chen Han Dian). There, she underwent training in dance and acting, and made appearances on several variety programmes.

Although she enjoyed her time and learned many things there, Cheryl admitted to feeling homesick because she did not travel back to Singapore often. Fortunately for her, fellow local talents Nat Ho and Dawn Yeoh lived just two train stops from her, and the trio would hang out regularly, checking out eating places and frequenting supermarkets together.

Something not as easily dealt with were the high standards of beauty there. “A lot of focus is placed on weight and being light-skinned, and I’m not exactly ideal when it comes to that,” she candidly shared. “People would say to me, ‘Maybe you can be fairer, thinner and make your face smaller?’”

Because of this, Cheryl, believing it was “what she should be doing” because of her profession, embarked on a variety of diets, from cutting out carbohydrates to consuming only vegetables at night. Her most extreme one involved drinking just three cups of oatmeal (with one fruit thrown in occasionally) a day, which fuelled her with a meagre 400 calories – just one-fifth of the recommended daily calorie intake for women. She would also work out like crazy, clocking in hours upon hours of gym time, yoga, spinning and body pumps.

Unsurprisingly, her methods, while effective for a time (“If you don’t eat, of course you’re going to lose weight”), took a toll on her wellbeing. “I never fainted but I knew my health wasn’t so good,” she said. “After starving myself, I would end up overeating with lots of bread and chocolate, which is bad because it’s not a balanced diet.”

Thankfully, Cheryl has put her unsound kilo-shedding ways behind her, and places more importance on being happy and healthy. “Don’t torture yourself – if you ill-treat your body, it’s going to ill-treat you right back,” she warned. “There’s no point in not allowing yourself to eat anything [and being skinny] but you’re so miserable right? You have to enjoy yourself, but of course, don’t overeat because that’s not healthy either.”

In fact, the ambitious and enterprising lass is turning her philosophy into an entire business: she revealed that she is working on launching a “sister label” with her mother, hair and beauty mogul Jean Yip.

“I can’t reveal too much, but it’s going to be something that combines what I’ve learned about health and nutrition with my mum’s expertise in beauty and wellness,” she said. “I don’t necessarily want to take over the company, but I do want to learn from her. It’s not going to be easy because I have to manage my time between that and [my activities in] Taiwan, but I’m still young and I think it’ll be a wonderful experience.”

When we tried to dig for more info about her new business venture, all she cheekily divulged was, “[Let me] keep you in suspense lah!” Oh well, guess we’ll have to wait for the updates she promised.

Daren Tan hopes to get married in three years?

Like Cheryl, Daren is making his return to Mata Mata as undercover officer Lim Kiat, the offspring of his character from previous seasons Lim Seng Hock.

Unlike Cheryl, he has no plans to expand his career in Taiwan, or anywhere else outside of Singapore.

“Frankly, if I wanted to do that, I would have done it seven years ago,” he said with a chuckle. “I’m perfectly fine with what I’m doing here. I’m a person who is quite risk averse so I don’t like going to a country and not knowing whether I’ll succeed or not. I would rather play safe.”

Since winning the second season of singing reality contest Project SuperStar in 2007, Daren has dabbled more in acting than in music. However, fans of Daren the singer can look forward to a few upcoming collaborations with friends like ShiGGa Shay, as well as live performances at a few SG50 events.

Something else we can all look forward to – if everything goes well – are wedding bells between him and girlfriend Nadia Lum, a medical officer whom he went public with (at least on social media) in April this year.

“I can’t tell you for certain [when I’m going to get married] but hopefully it won’t take too long – I would say, before I’m 35?” the 32-year-old said with a smile, before politely declining to reveal more information about Nadia or their relationship.

Daren is a lot less secretive about his romance on social media, and doesn’t shy away from posting cute couple selfies on Instagram. When we asked why he chooses to be so open (as opposed to other artistes who keep this aspect of their private lives fiercely under wraps), he explained, “If people like me as an artiste, they should respect and accept the fact that I have a partner, so it’s no big deal.”

Mata Mata: A New Generation premieres at 10pm on November 30 on Channel 5. Stay tuned for more features from our visit to the set in Penang!

Rihanna's pals wary of her boyfriend

Rihanna's pals don't like her boyfriend.

The 'FourFiveSeconds' hitmaker's close friends are reportedly wary of her relationship with soccer star Karim Benzema.

The star's pals were also left worried when Karim was seen with Karrueche Tran, the ex-girlfriend of Rihanna's ex Chris Brown.

A source told US' OK! magazine: "Rihanna can't believe it - she can't get rid of this girl!

"She likes Karim, but she's made it clear she's not going down that road again."

Meanwhile, Rihanna and the French sportsman are said to be getting on great.

A source said: "It's taken a long time for the relationship to get off the ground but she says that's what makes it so special. He's the first guy she's actually gotten to know before diving in head first.

"She's been telling people she's never experienced anything like this in her life and that she trusts him like her best friend."

Rihanna has been "swept off her feet" by Karim, with pals thinking the pair are looking at moving forward in their relationship.

A source shared: "Rihanna seems to have undergone a major transformation. She's gone from saying that she doesn't believe in monogamy at all, to talking about how she just wants to be with one guy.

"It's all because of Karim, he's completely swept her off her feet."

Whilst another added: "Secretly I think Rihanna would love a proposal. And Karim has hinted that he's got his eye on a diamond ring just for her.

"But at the moment, she's just enjoying it and seems to be truly happy for the first time in a long while."

Wonder Girls to return as four on August 3

The Wonder Girls will be making their long-awaited comeback – but not with the lineup some were expecting.

Sohee and leader Sunye will not be part of this promotion cycle, with label JYP Entertainment maintaining that Sunye is still part of the group. Meanwhile, Sohee, who left JYP to further her career in acting, is said to be unable to fit Wonder Girls promotions into her schedule.

Sharing that their current comeback date is set for August 3, JYP continued that the date is not set in stone. Sunmi, who withdrew from the group in 2010 to focus on her academics, has also made her solo debut while the Wonder Girls were not actively promoting.

Furthermore, it has been confirmed that the now-quartet will be returning with a band concept, with Yenny on the keyboard, Hyelim on the guitar, Sunmi playing the bass guitar and Yubin as the group’s drummer.

The Wonder Girls was once considered at the top of the girl group food chain, with hits such as ‘Nobody’, ‘Tell Me’, ‘Irony’ and ‘Be My Baby’ dominating charts and receiving both national and international recognition.

Hannah Quinlivan travels to China to support Jay Chou

At the press conference event for The Voice of China at the start of June, Taiwanese multi-hyphenate Jay Chou mentioned that he would invite his model wife Hannah Quinlivan to watch the recordings, and he has stayed true to his word.

The fourth season of The Voice of China, on which Jay is one of the mentors, is currently in the midst of its recording sessions and the mother-to-be was photographed at the show’s recording in Jiaxing, China three days ago.

Although she is speculated to be about six months pregnant, Hannah still looks slender is still walks briskly. She was spotted in black clothes from head to toe, wearing a mask as she darted into the premises quietly and headed straight for the lounge for mentors on the show.

People speculated that this all-black theme runs in the family, judging from the previous news about their baby getting all-black baby products.

Could Show Luo be proposing at the end of the year?

Rumour has it that Taiwanese actor-singer Show Luo will be going down on one knee at the end of the year.

Hong Kong Apple Daily reported on Sunday that it all began when Show was questioned at the airport in Taoyuan last Saturday about whether he could be preparing for a marriage soon, to which he gave an “okay” hand sign and replied, “30 years old”. After he was teased about being way past that age (he is 35 this year), he laughed a little and made his exit.

According to reports, Chinese blogger girlfriend Grace is obedient, sensible, comes from an affluent family and has studied abroad before. The 26-year-old even has the approval of Show’s mother who dotes on her only son and might have unintentionally pressured him into wanting to propose to Grace soon.

Also, it is said that Grace is not a possessive girlfriend who gets jealous easily and if a group of close friends wanted to go out with him for a karaoke session at night, she’d say, “It’s fine, tonight will be a boys night out for you!”

Even before the announcement of his relationship with Grace, Show has been toying with the idea of settling down, much to the surprise of friends who thought he’d remain a bachelor. It was reported that he even asked his friends, “If I were to get married, would you come?”

Additionally, a few more rumours claimed that Show and Grace have been dating each other for as long as three years and that they even broke up and got back together a few times due to conflicts, which is the reason why they cherish each other so much now.

Another rumour even claimed that Show chose to reveal his affair because he was inspired by Jay Chou’s recent wedding, and judging from his past relationships of girls who all ended up leaving him, he finally decided to treasure his current girlfriend.

His representative responded to the rumours, saying that Show will be concentrating on his work for now and that he would keep his fans updated on this matter.

Holly Madison wants to inspire women

Holly Madison claims Hugh Hefner "can't grasp the fact" she is trying to help other women.

The former glamour model, who claims in her new book, 'Down the Rabbit Hole,' that she was verbally and emotionally abused while living in the Playboy Mansion, has lashed out at the magazine mogul for accusing her of trying to "rewrite history."

Responding to her 89-year-old ex-boyfriend's recent statement, in which he dismissed her allegations, the 35-year-old beauty said: "I wrote the book not because I had an axe to grind or because I wanted a reaction from him. I just wanted to tell my story and hopefully inspire other women if they're in a bad relationship or a bad situation, to move on and not feel branded by a choice they made or a person they're known to be with.

"I think he thinks I'm doing it for fame because he can't grasp the fact that a woman would have a message and a story to tell."

Holly, who has two-year-old daughter Rainbow with husband Pasquale Rotella, says she decided to open up about her experience seven years after leaving the mansion because it had become "the elephant in the room.

She told the 'Wendy Williams Show': "For so many years, I didn't want to talk about my time at the mansion. Everybody would ask me about it and I would give light, positive, dismissive answers...but it turned into the elephant in the room that I couldn't get away from. I hold myself accountable for all the decisions I made in my book and explain why I made them."

Sulli’s fate with f(x) undecided

Fans of Korean girl group f(x) were sent into a tizzy this morning when reports claimed that Sulli has officially withdrawn from the group and that they will make their official comeback as four.

Going on to say that she left the idol group in order to further her career in acting, some netizens commented that this announcement was a long time coming after f(x) halted promotions for their studio album Red Light last year amidst dating rumours between Sulli and Dynamic Duo’s Choiza.

Sulli announced her indefinite break from celebrity activities last July due to mental and physical exhaustion stemming from malicious comments and false rumours about her, but has made sporadic appearances at activities such as her movie’s premiere and for solo photoshoots.

f(x) was hit by a similar crisis earlier last month when leader Victoria was reported by Chinese media to be leaving the group. The rumours were swiftly dismissed by label S.M. Entertainment and subsequently by Victoria herself.

S.M. made its official statement on Sulli’s status with f(x) following the reports, stating that nothing has been decided and her future with the group will be determined after careful considerations. They also dismissed rumours of a September comeback for f(x) as a quintet, sharing that while they are aiming for a comeback for the group in the latter half of the year, no details have been finalised as of yet.

Jaime Wong: Singapore’s Taylor Swift? That’s not me

At the grand old age of 25, local singer-songwriter Jaime Wong is a self-professed “typical emo singer-songwriter” – but is she, really? Her self-titled debut EP, which consisted of four self-penned tracks, centers on lost love and, in short, makes you want to indulge in a tub of ice cream after.

Far from taking it the wrong way, Jaime grinned, “It’s actually a compliment – you want people to feel things when they listen to your songs so I guess I’ve achieved that. In a very weird way, it makes me happy to hear that people feel depressed after listening to them.”

Her guitar is, understandably, her security blanket; Jaime confessed to pleading for it to be allowed into the recording studio with her when she was recording her vocal lines and feeling awkward without it. These days, however, she’s exploring different genres of music and even giving the electric guitar a go – something she hopes to incorporate into her upcoming tracks.

Perhaps we here at Toggle have been exposed to one too many mainstream gigs, as we immediately thought of one of the biggest female singer-songwriters in existence after speaking to Jaime – Taylor Swift.

Breaking out in a disbelieving smile after we mentioned the name, she was stunned into silence for a moment before letting out a, ”Wow. No, no one’s ever mentioned that”. While Jaime expressed her admiration for the superstar, she mused, “I don’t think I’ll ever be like that; especially because Taylor is so upfront about the people she writes about in her songs but I like to keep them guessing.”

While she remains open to writing more upbeat, radio-friendly tunes in the future, she maintains that she will not let her sources of inspiration know who truly inspired her tunes. “A lot of people will probably be guessing, ‘Maybe it’s me?’ but I’ll never tell them if they’re right or not,” she grinned.

While she is busy with her job in the IT industry by day, its flexibility has allowed her to work on her music – something she admitted is a pricey interest, both literally and figuratively. Her EP, which was delayed for months, almost didn’t make it to see the light of day after numerous setbacks. Thankfully, it made it through and the rest, as they say, is history.

What then, is success and popularity to Jaime? “I felt like my dreams came true at my EP launch – looking out into the crowd when I was singing and seeing them singing to to my songs with me; that’s something that words can’t describe,” she shared.

While she continues playing at smaller joints for now – places she feels comfortable in while being able to connect with her audiences, she does dream of playing at bigger venues one day. When she does, we’ll be sure to be there too.

The day before the celebration, Cherrie also posted a photo of her colourful birthday cake which had the words “Happy birthday, my wife!” on top. In her post, she praised Jordan, “You’re improving! I love you!”

Cherrie also posted another photo of the couple sharing a kiss and captioned, “Thank you for planning this for me. It was truly a surprise for me.”

Diddy releases statement following altercation

Diddy has released a statement regarding his charges for allegedly attacking his son Justin's American Football coach.

A representative for the 45-year-old rapper - real name Sean Combs - has said he acted in a "solely defensive" nature and believes once the truth comes out the case will be "dismissed".

The statement made by the singer's rep stated: "The various accounts of the events and charges that are being reported are wholly inaccurate. What we can say now is that any actions taken by Mr. Combs were solely defensive in nature to protect himself and his son. We are confident that once the true facts are revealed, the case will be dismissed."

Diddy is believed to have assaulted strength and conditioning trainer Sal Alosi with a metal weight after he yelled at the 21 year old during a practise at UCLA's training complex at around 12:30 p.m on Monday (22.06.15).

Following the incident - in which the star is alleged to have threatened Alosi with a kettlebell - UCLA's head football coach Jim Mora also issued a statement saying: "I'm thankful that our staff showed the level of professionalism that they did in handling this situation. This is an unfortunate incident for all parties involved.

"[UCLA] will let the legal process run its course and refrain from further comment at this time".

Diddy is expected to appear in court on July 13.

Allan Moo Debuts His New Single “Valley of Light” After 10 Years In Reclusion.

Allan Moo, one that everyone would know him by his song "Mistakes" in the 1990s, or may also be known as a singer because he is Eric Moo’s brother. In 2004 because he could not fulfil an unnamed famous person's unreasonable demands, he had lost the big opportunity to be in the film and singing industry, thus he reluctantly left the entertainment industry.

Being silent for nearly 10 years, Allan Moo decided to come out of his reclusion days. Not because of completing his own unfinished singing dream, but to assist Singapore Singer-Songwriter Elson Soh in completing his dream, and becoming The Royal 3 mentor! Allan Moo kind hearted spirit moved everyone in Royal Entertainment, and they encouraged him to release his singles, as an encouragement to The Royal 3.

Allan Moo responded in an interview that he wish he is able to help more locals in achieving their dreams, and also hope his new singles "Valley of Light" is able to encourage people to be brave, especially the low income families that he met in his recent participation in volunteer group (Project Awareness).

Allan Moo says: "People will not stay at the bottom for their lifetime. As long as you are willing to give yourself a chance, work hard, you will be able to come out of the darkness into the valley of light!"

Allan Moo premiere new single "Valley of Light", a song that he sang for everyone!

After her last project Fighting Spiders in 2009, Ezann Lee disappeared from local showbiz and rarely made any public appearances. This July, the 33-year-old actress will return to our TV screens with new Channel 5 series Premonition. The drama also stars Taiwanese actor Johnny Lu, LUSH 99.5FM DJ Rosalyn Lee and local actor Timothy Nga.

During a set visit to old Beach Road Police Station last month, Toggle caught up with Ezann who was happy to share about her current work status as a freelance artiste. From the get-go, however, we were told to refrain from prying into her personal life or her elder sister Ericia Lee’s (who tied the knot in January).

In 2012, Ezann graduated with a Bachelor of Business Management from Singapore Institute of Management and has since been “bumming around” for two years. Earlier this year, the actress ran into Gavin Lim, director of Fighting Spiders and Premonition, who casually asked if she was still keen in acting.

“So I said: Yeah, why not?” Ezann replied with a smile.

At the time of the interview, the petite actress had started filming for about a month and was finally getting used to acting in front of the cameras again. “It was difficult to adapt. At first, I was quite rusty but it’s better now,” she laughed.

That night, Ezann and her co-stars had to film an accident scene which involved an overturning car and explosives. “It would probably be the toughest scene because I don’t know what to expect. I have never done action scenes before,” added the actress.

In the drama, Ezann plays the role of Sasha, a woman who has to deal with a manipulative uncle and husband, Jonah (Johnny), who is a problem gambler and compulsive liar. Married for 10 years, the couple’s attempts to conceive have been unsuccessful, leading to a stagnant relationship. To make things worse, Sasha has a nagging suspicion that Jonah is cheating on her.

Because of her circumstances, the former damsel in distress grows to become a tenacious woman who stands up for herself. When asked if the character bears any similarities to her real-life personality, Ezann said: “Sometimes I can be nice and gentle, and in cases where I need to be tough and firm, I will be. I guess we are similar in some ways.”

Singing praises of the other cast members, Ezann lauded Johnny for being “very professional and easy-going” while complimenting Rozz on her impressive acting debut. “We only have a few lines together, but she is very good,” she reiterated.

Ezann, who is not signed to any company at the moment, has no plans to return to showbiz full-time just yet. In the meantime, the freelance actress is eager to take on other acting opportunities (even psycho roles) that come along.
Early Sunday morning, Taiwanese actress-host Barbie Hsu shared a photo on Weibo of her husband Wang Xiaofei and daughter Wang Xiyue (also known as Xiao Yue’er) enjoying themselves in a swimming pool.

That same day, Xiaofei also posted a sweet family photo of the couple taking Xiao Yue’er out for a walk with their pet dog.

As seen in the picture, Barbie and Xiao Yue’er were dressed in matching striped shirts while Xiaofei held onto his daughter’s hands as she toddled around. The proud father also captioned that “Xiao Yue’er can finally walk,” sharing his joy with the world.

Netizens posted comments of admiration for their family and one even said that “Xiaofei is very blessed to have two beautiful ladies by his side.”

Other netizens commented that the picture resembled a scene from Taiwanese drama Meteor Garden because Barbie (who had her hair tied in two pigtails) resembled her character Shan Cai in the show.

Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross' 'fun' marriage

Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross want to keep their marriage "fun".

The 'Pieces of Me' hitmaker tied the knot with the 'Hunger Games' actor last year and Ashlee is keen on making sure the couple's marriage stays "fun".

A source told US' OK! magazine: "Ashlee and Evan made a promise to each other that they want to keep their marriage fun and exciting."

The pair are enjoying their last few moments of alone time together as they are soon to become proud parents of a little girl.

The star's sister Jessica Simpson recently held a "chill" baby shower for Ashlee at her home.

A guest shared: "It was beautiful weather and her house was the perfect setting ... so gorgeous.

"It was very chill and almost like just a get-together than a traditional shower. It wasn't focused on games [and was] more like a big party."

Ashlee's six-year-old son Bronx - who she has from her previous marriage to Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz - is also looking forward to welcoming his little sister.

She gushed previously: "I told him pretty early on [that I was pregnant] and he wanted to have a sister, so he's really excited! He's got a little brother. Now he's going to have a little sister!"

Breaking the perfect girl code: Rebecca Lim

Who would have imagined the tree in a class skit to become a “Best Actress” winner?

A self-proclaimed plus size “cool nerd” during her school days, Rebecca Lim never had the intention of becoming a model or actress. Even until today, her family and close friends are still in disbelief that she is one of the best known celebrities - who can actually act too, we think- on Caldecott Hill.

Her participation in Miss Singapore Universe 2005 was but a fun-seeking experience with her friends. Rebecca almost chickened out of the competition as she didn’t fit the criteria of having a bikini and portfolio. Yet somehow, she managed to get through the stages despite “making a fool of herself” during the Question and Answer segment.

“After graduating from Junior College, you think you own the world but in fact you don’t, because you don’t have any life experience at all. Maybe they kept me [in the competition] for entertainment value,” she laughed.

Perhaps, it was this ineffable charm that brought her to where she is today. Always armed with a smile, grounded - in spite of her newfound fame and a really determined hard worker, it’s impossible to not fall in love with ‘Becks’ (we mean it figuratively, not literally, of course).

For someone who finds it uneasy to show her raw emotions, Rebecca took a long time to discover her love for acting and to be recognised for her stunning transformation. Along her journey in showbiz, the actress has met her fair share of detractors as well as people who have stood by her over the years.

It may have been a tedious road, but what is most important to the budding thespian (her hectic schedule recently took its toll on her health) is that she has finally arrived at her destination and is ready to scale greater heights.

Read on for more, and watch the videos for a blow-by-blow account of her interview:

She’s not the “perfect” girl she’s perceived to be

Well-loved by TV viewers, media and seniors in the industry, Rebecca appears to be the perfect girl. But is she, really?

“I’m sure there are people who don’t like me, just that you haven’t interviewed them yet (laughs). Or they don’t like me but they don’t say it,” she said. “I do have my temper. I’m not the nicest to people, especially when they are not nice to me. I cannot fake being nice to them if they are not nice to me, I’d rather just avoid [them].”

Nevertheless, the easy-going actress has no issues with most people. And if it’s someone from the crew or cast that she “cannot click with”, Rebecca says she’d usually just remain silent.

She never used to be like this though. In the past, all it takes is one glass of champagne to send Rebecca dancing on the table. But after she became a public figure, her friends are the ones who look out for her when they hang out. “My friends will go: ‘Please don’t. Just stand there lah. Don’t even dance. Your dance moves are horrible,” she chuckled.

Rebecca, who has long outgrown the partying phase, would rather spend her precious free time with friends and family these days.

Her family keeps her grounded

Thanks to good upbringing, Rebecca has been well-mannered since young (she still greets everyone before eating). At the same time, her family keeps her ego in check. “They will be like: ‘Don’t think you are so great lah,” she laughed.

During the Chinese New Year period, Rebecca invited some colleagues to her house. Instead of bursting with pride from the compliments, Rebecca’s elder brother simply replied: “Who cares?! (laughs)” And in her younger sister’s eyes, Rebecca will always be her sibling above all else.

“It’s a very bad thing that I throw tantrums in front of my family. Sometimes I’m not appreciative of what they do, like the small things. But at the end of the day, your family are the people who accept you for who you are,” Rebecca confided.

Besides her loved ones, the humble actress accredited her success to the people who have lent her a hand along the way. “If Channel 8 didn’t give me a second chance, I wouldn’t have all these now. My stylists and make-up artistes were the ones who volunteered to help me when I was a nobody. My managers never gave up on me; they renewed my contract every year even when I wasn’t confident that they would.”

She took up a second degree for “insurance”

Rebecca’s first “calefare role” in Family Matters was a demoralising and yet enlightening experience. Due to her poor Mandarin, she had to repeat a simple line for over 20 times which incurred the wrath of the director.

“The studio was freezing but I was perspiring. I can never forget that scene because it was my first show. I didn’t have any training and there were three cameras [staring at me]. I thought: ‘Give chance lah.’ But I guess that’s the way things are in a working world. Nobody’s gonna ‘give chance’. They gave you an opportunity, either you shine or you sink,” Rebecca asserted.

In 2008, Rebecca had her first major role in The Truth where her performance was so harshly criticised that she was not approached for any new Chinese project for nearly three years. “The only thing people remember is my horrible hairdo and my horrible Mandarin,” she said with a laugh.

Motivated to do better, Rebecca not only went for Chinese tuition, but she also started listening to Chinese music on YES 933 and reading magazines such as i-Weekly. “I had to stop finding excuses. I didn’t want to make a fool of myself again. And Mandarin is not a bad skill to learn anyway,” added the actress.

Not about to throw in the towel just yet, the actress, who was an undergraduate at the time, used school work as distraction and consolation. Rebecca extended her studying period from three to four years by taking up a second degree at Singapore Management University, so that she would have the papers to fall back on should her acting career fail to take flight.

She has a special affinity with Xiang Yun

Many would agree that Channel 5 dramas The Pupil and Fighting Spiders were Rebecca’s career turning point. It was also then that her passion for acting was truly ignited. “It was the first time I really felt emotions – extreme emotions – crying, screaming and fear. I was like, wow! It was scary but fun,” she grinned.

Rebecca’s marked improvement garnered positive reviews and gave her a much needed confidence boost, which paved the way for her return to Ch8. After several forgettable roles, the hard-working actress finally enjoyed a breakthrough withUnriddle 2 that earned her a coveted “Best Actress” nomination at Star Awards 2013.

Since then, everything started falling into place – bigger roles, more exposure and endorsement deals came knocking on her door. Even now, Rebecca still vividly remembers the overwhelming surge of emotions that washed over her when she first saw her magazine cover plastered on a bus.

On hindsight, the affable actress is glad that her route to success was longer than her peers. “During the first two years, I wasn’t sure if I will be who I am today. It took me so many years and I am very grateful for all the opportunities,” Rebecca affirmed.

Also, Rebecca admitted that awards mean a great deal to her. And here is the reason why she was especially emotional after bagging the “Best Supporting Actress” trophy last year: “I was nominated alongside all these veterans who looked after me since I just signed on. A lot of people don’t know this, but when I first entered MediaCorp, I looked really lost in the Artiste Management Unit. Xiang Yun jie took the initiative to talk to me.”

Unbeknownst to many, Xiang Yun, who was filming a long form drama, even drove Rebecca to the set and showed her around. After each take, the veteran artiste would patiently explain the procedure to her. “When she came to congratulate me, I just broke down [in tears]. I was really touched,” said Rebecca.

She was always the love messenger for others, never the recipient

Unlike most teenagers, Rebecca was a rebellious child in Primary School (she brought her sister along when she played truant) and “changed for the better” when she went to Secondary School.

Before she started slimming down in Secondary 3, Rebecca’s puppy love has always been one-sided. Spending 11 years in CHIJ Saint Nicholas Girls’ School, Rebecca’s crushes were mostly the boys from nearby schools Catholic High and Saint Joseph’s Institution or her brother’s buddies.

“His friends would come over and hang out after school. My brother would ask me to bring my pretty friends. In the end, I never ever get paired up and I was really sad!” Rebecca cried. “I would always be the messenger, the one passing presents and presents to my friends. I was like the middleman for the longest time.”

Despite her lack of suitors back then, Rebecca was popular in school. “I was from symphonic band and I’d like to think that I was quite good. I was also friendly, so I would get little gifts and letters from the juniors. I would be the senior that receives the longest postcards,” she chortled.

She deliberately kept a distance from Desmond Tan

During his Toggle Talk interview, Desmond Tan admitted that he once contemplated pursuing Rebecca. When asked to comment on his confession, the actress emphasised that the BFFs are “not meant to be together”.

“The timing didn’t work out for us. And our character… I think if we were really together, we will quarrel every day. There are so many things he does that make me go ‘Why is he like that?’!” Rebecca exclaimed.

The fact that Desmond takes a longer time in the washroom than the ladies and his odd habit of wearing sunglasses indoors are just some of the no-nos for Rebecca. “And I think he’s very happy in his current relationship. This girl is very good for him so I’m happy for him,” she added.

Putting herself in the shoes of Desmond’s other half, Rebecca revealed that she has deliberately kept a distance from the actor out of respect. “I would say that over the past few years, our friendship hasn’t been as strong as it was. I feel that I shouldn’t get so close. Like you said, if I’m the girlfriend, I wouldn’t be comfortable also, so it’s not so nice…”

As for the rumours with Ian Fang, Rebecca maintained that they are just very good friends, something which surprised even herself. “When I first knew him, I was like ‘this guy cannot’. But when I got to know him, I realised he is very misunderstood. We can talk about a lot of things,” she explained.

While Rebecca may not be extremely keen on a May-December romance, she agreed that older men are not necessarily more mature, judging from her own dating experiences.

She wouldn’t betray her body for fame or money

Having been in the industry for nine years, Rebecca is no stranger to the unspoken rules of showbiz. The go-getter, however, has never been comfortable about going the extra mile to please people.

On the other hand, Rebecca revealed that she has indeed received a few “indecent proposals” before. “In the first place, I will question myself. Do I look like a kept woman or like I’m searching for a sugar daddy? Am I giving off that kind of vibe?” the actress asked.

“They will ask me out for dinner but I didn’t even get to the dinner because my price is too high! (laughs)” she said in jest.

For the record, Rebecca has never considered such deals as a shortcut to fame because she wouldn’t be able to live with herself. “If there are other people who are willing to do it, I won’t judge them. It’s their choice, it’s their life. But my body is very precious to me. I cannot [accept the proposals],” she concluded.

She was dumped three out of four times

With a loving family and a successful career, Rebecca needs a little more luck in love.

The acclaimed actress, who met her first boyfriend in Victoria JC, has had four relationships. To our surprise, she was dumped three out of four times. “I don’t understand what men really want. That’s why mutual respect and communication are very important to me now,” she let on.

Ideal types are no longer applicable to Rebecca, who considers a deep level of understanding as the key to a healthy relationship. “You can be so successful but if you treat me like s***, what’s the point? I don’t need a boyfriend who showers me with gifts. I can buy them myself,” reiterated the actress.

Her last romance ended almost a year ago. It was a long-distance relationship which failed to work out mainly due to their hectic schedules and personality incompatibility. “I didn’t have time for him and he couldn’t understand it. I guess it’s very normal for your partner to want to celebrate special occasions such as birthdays, but I kind of missed everything.”

The couple decided to call it quits as Rebecca was not ready to give up her career to settle down. “I really enjoy what I’m doing and I believe there will be someone who would accept all this. I don’t feel like I need to give this up for [a relationship], for something that is uncertain. Even though you are so in love today, you can be out of love the next day,” she thought aloud.

Rebecca’s parents may not be rushing her to get married, but they are understandably “very concerned”. Although the 28-year-old loves children, she can hardly imagine herself leading the selfless life of a mother just yet. When she does fall in love again, Rebecca claimed that she would not keep it under wraps.

And we hold her to her word.

Ariel Lin and Chen Bolin to reunite on screen

One of Taiwan’s most well-loved onscreen couples will be reuniting on the big screen again, after starring as a couple in hit rom-com drama series In Time With You in 2011.

On Saturday morning, Ariel Lin got fans excited when she posted a photo of her and Chen Bolin gazing at each other while at the beach in Ko Samui Island.

“Second honeymoon at Ko Samui Island?” Ariel wrote, teasing fans by indirectly referring to her onscreen coupling with Bolin in In Time With You, which saw their characters getting married at the end of the show.

According to Taiwan media reports, the two Taiwanese actors were in Thailand to film the movie sequel of Taiwan drama series, Go Lala Go!, in which stars Ariel as the female protagonist and Bolin as one of her suitors in the show.

Both Ariel and Bolin gained a huge fan following for their strong chemistry and coupling in In Time With You and many even hoped for them to be together in real life.

Alas, it was not meant to be as the 32-year-old actress tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend Charles Lin in a star-studded bash last year. Bolin, who is said to be a close friend of Ariel’s, even gave her a huge red packet of TW$100,000 (approximately S$20,000).

MBLAQ to end promotions early due to G.O’s injury

MBLAQ has made their first comeback as a trio after Lee Joon and Thunder (Park Sang Hyun) left the group after their respective contracts expired.

The remaining members, Seungho, G.O, and Mir, have spoken about their struggles while preparing for their comeback, but they have also announced the unfortunate news that they will have to end promotions prematurely as G.O has been confirmed to be suffering from laryngitis.

MBLAQ made their return on June 9 with MIRROR and G.O was rushed to the hospital on June 11 after he felt extreme discomfort in his throat. He was hospitalised for injuries to his vocal chords but returned to the stage to carry on with the group's scheduled performances. He is said to have performed while lipsyncing in order to allow his throat to heal.

However, taking into consideration the extent of his injury, the trio has decided to end promotions early in order for G.O to make a full and speedy recovery. The group has expressed their desire to greet fans again once he makes a full recovery.

Jada Pinkett Smith's pizza binge

Jada Pinkett Smith "binged on pizza" following 'Magic Mike XXL'.

The 43-year-old actress - who stars as a brothel owner in the stripper flick - has admitted she enjoyed gorging on the calorific treat following the wrapping up of the film but insisted she usually takes a much more focused approach to eating.

When asked what tips she has for those trying to stay in shape, she told Entertainment Tonight: "What are you eating? Because we could get on the treadmill and we could go to the gym and we could work out, but if we're not eating the foods to help us get to that body shape that we want, then you can stay on the treadmill as long as you want. It's not going to get you the results.

"So really, my diet is, is what is most important to me. I'm always checking on my relationship to food."

Meanwhile, Jada - who has daughter Willow, 14, and son Jaden, 16, with husband Will Smith - previously admitted she felt as though she looked "better than ever" despite reducing the time she spent in the gym.

She said: "I look better than ever and I work out less. I'm never in the gym for [more than] 45 minutes.

"As I've gotten older, I've learned that it's about being physical every day. You don't have to go to the gym if that's not your thing. You can go outside your door and walk around your block."

Bernice Liu’s ‘working holiday’ in Singapore

Hong Kong-based actress Bernice Liu, who is set to call this island-state ‘home’ for the next three months, is more local than the average Singaporean on the street. And we don’t mean she speaks better colloquial English (or Singlish) than you or me. For starters, she is very in-tuned with what our little isle has to offer, for someone who has just started her temporary resident stint (two weeks ago, to be exact) in our country.

So far she has gone on the treetop walk at MacRitchie Reservoir, been to the quaint and scenic Little Guilin in Bukit Gombak, attended a bookbinding class for charity at the Arts House, been to the Little Prince exhibition… and we foresee this avid hiker’s humble list of been-there-done-that activities growing with each passing week.

Currently filming a brand new Channel 5 TV series called Lion Moms which is produced by Ochre Pictures, Bernice is clearly enjoying what we’d loosely term her “working holiday”, immersing herself as much as possible in the local culture. Prior to taking on this project, she was in Malaysia filming Hollywood Sci-Fi film, Lost in the Pacific, which is directed by Vincent Zhou and written by Peter Cameron and Vincent.

The 36-year-old reportedly turned down an offer in China to take on this local project and confirmed this piece of news during her on-set interview with Toggle, on Wednesday.

“I’ve been in China for the past few years doing a variety of dramas from historical dramas to period shows… and I’ve never done anything like this (Lion Moms) in my TV roles or even in movies. And I thought, it’s time for Bernice to mature a little bit [by playing a mother].”

In Lion Moms, she plays Jennifer, a happily married mother with two children, but Bernice’s character is not your ordinary SAHM (stay-at-home-mum). Jennifer’s stylish, perfect, immaculate and funny, she also has a tough but “loving” side to her and shares characteristics seen in most ‘tiger mums’.

Bernice took to the role like fish to water, no thanks to her personal upbringing, she said. “I started dancing when I was 3 years old, taekwondo since 8, kick-boxing in university, was in piano and musical theatre, so I know a little of how that feels as a child. And being a mother, I can just picture my own mother at the same time (chuckles).”

The overlapping similarities between her mother and Jennifer meant that Bernice could easily identify with her character. Just as how her love for dancing was inculcated at a young age when her mum sent her for dancing classes, similarly, Bernice believes Jennifer wants to give her child the best and expose them to extra-curricular activities she didn’t get a chance to do while growing up - like what Bernice’s mother did for her and her older sister.

For someone born and bred in Canada and had to learn how to speak Mandarin and Cantonese from scratch when she first joined showbiz, speaking in her mother tongue language (English) was also a great source of comfort. Although the actress admitted that it felt slightly surreal and weird in the beginning, since she has never done an English drama before.

Save for our melting pot culture, the fresh air, clean tap water, beautiful hiking trails and great food, another perk of working in Singapore for Bernice is being able to “walk down the street in shorts and slippers” and - we guess - without making tabloid headlines for doing so.

“And they take really nice pictures too,” she gushed of fans. “So it’s really cool.”

So has her acting stint as a mother of two brought out her maternal instincts?

“I love kids! Everyone knows that and I’m practicing with my seven dogs,” the workaholic chuckled, “But you gotta wait –and through this drama I think it’s important to have a good partner, a perfect partner. To have a child is not easy at all [because] it takes a lot of dedication, love, a lot of sweat and blood… to be a mother.”

Bernice joked in reply, when asked if she has found the right partner in life, “What do you think? I’m here filming a show called Lion Moms to prepare myself…

“But I think after this drama, people are gonna be scared of this ‘lion mom’. (Ed: Maybe the right one will come along in Singapore?) Maybe? But I hope he accepts this ‘lion mom’ thing because I’m kinda crazy [in this show].”

Lion Moms, starring Bernice Liu, Nurul Aini, Vanessa Vanderstraaten, Max Loong, Russell Ong and Firdaus Rahman, debuts Sep 7 (Mon), 10pm on Channel 5.
