Michelle Chen and Chen Xiao confirm engagement

After weeks of speculation, Chinese actor Chen Xiao and Taiwanese actress Michelle Chen have confirmed that they are happily engaged.

The pair took their love from reel to real life after starring on The Romance of the Condor Heroes together and their relationship has progressed quickly despite the fact that they have only been dating for seven months.

Photos of the romantic proposal while on a cruise on the Seine River in France took the internet by storm and Chen Xiao admitted through his manager that his relationship has moved on to the next level and that the pair are engaged. Thanking the public for their concern, he stressed that he will let nature take its course and that there are no concrete plans for a wedding just yet.

His manager further shared that Chen Xiao, who enjoys drawing, had a statue of Michelle’s character in the drama, Xiao Long Nu, specially made to look like his lady love and placed on the boat where the proposal took place.

In addition, Michelle expressed through a separate interview that she was “very surprised (and) touched (because) I wouldn’t have dreamed of” the romantic proposal. While the pair has yet to use their respective Weibo accounts to relay the good news to fans, their recent posts have garnered a slew of congratulatory comments, wishing the happy couple only the best.

From an unexplainable fragrance that overpowered Dawn Yeoh to an eerie wailing that just kept getting closer to Jeffrey Xu’s home, huddle under the covers for this week’s terrifying tales.

Catch it all on Toggle’s special series, Celebrity Spooky Tales - watch it if you dare. Missed out on the first two installments of the series? Check out week one’s spooky encounters in living abodes and week two’s goosebump-raising army tales, only on Toggle.

Dawn Yeoh

Filming in the studio is never easy work – especially if you’re being distracted by a smell you just can’t identify. Flowery, overpowering and ever-present, what exactly did Dawn smell that one fateful day, and why did nobody else admit to it too?

Ian Fang

Ian’s had more than one encounter with the paranormal – once while filming 96°C Café and another, more sinister encounter when he was in Japan. Don’t brush off the whoosh of a door and that strange figure you see in the middle of the night as just a dream because you never know what consequences it might bring.

Jeffrey Xu

You might be a tad wary of answering the intercom when you’re home alone after watching this one. What would you do if all you heard was silence on the other end, followed by an eerie wailing of a woman that just keeps getting closer to your front door?

The next time you go on holiday, remember to check every inch of your room. That innocent-looking doll might not be as harmless as you thought it was, especially if it likes you enough to follow you back to Singapore.

Stephen Moyer loves sex scenes

Stephen Moyer loved his 'True Blood' sex scenes.

The 46-year-old actor knows most people in his profession insist there is nothing pleasurable about shooting erotic moments but he really enjoyed getting intimate on screen in the vampire drama, in which he starred with real-life wife Anna Paquin.

He said: "You're not supposed to say that you enjoy doing sex scenes, you're supposed to say, ''Oh it's really difficult, you know, with the lighting and the cameramen and the boom operators are all watching,' but I never had that.

"I just like doing them."

And Stephen, who played Bill Compton opposite Anna as Sookie Stackhouse, even has a particular favourite sex scene.

Speaking on 'Watch What Happens Live', he said: "Can I be quite rude? The one where I went down on my wife and then bit her neck and put the blood in her own mouth and sucked it back out again."

Though Stephen insisted none of the sex scenes were real, he admitted they "thought about" not simulating the saucy moments.

And the British actor knew his co-star was "the one" almost as soon as they began working together.

He gushed: "By day three or four -- oh this is going to sound so syrupy -- but I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her."

Tony Sun appears in good spirits at wrap party

Taiwanese actor and singer Tony Sun made an appearance at the wrap party for his latest drama, If God Loves. And despite divorcing Angel Han, his wife of four years, earlier this month he seemed to be in a good mood.

Out of consideration for Tony, the production crew made the October 26 wrap party a private, low-key event with no media present. The actor had a few drinks and took goofy photos with the cast posing with steamed buns.

Tony joined the production in August, and he said, “I’m happy to get to work with Chen Wen-shan, Shara Lin and Tender Huang.” He even plugged the new drama, which debuted in July, saying, “The show will get more exciting, because Hsu Bo-wei (his character in the show) is about to appear.”

Tony and Angel took the Taiwan entertainment circuit by surprise when they announced their divorce on October 8. Many suspected their being childless was one of the reasons for the divorce, which Angel’s manager has confirmed.

Throwback Thursday with Jeanette Aw in Melbourne

DIRECT FROM MELBOURNE: A 20-strong team consisting of cast and crew members of Channel 8’s The Dream Makers 2 flew to the land of kangaroos to film certain key scenes in the 32-episode drama series for two weeks in September. And Toggle was part of the entourage from start to finish: we got to breathe the same air, sleep under the same roof, and had equally early call times too – but that’s another story for another day.

For this week’s special ‘Dream Makers 2’ #throwbackthursday series, we have Jeanette Aw, the Snapchat guru who, when not channelling the emotions of Zhao Fei’er before the cameras, can be seen “vlogging” about her travel experiences and the sights and sounds of Melbourne on her mobile phone – all day, every day, like she’s maintaining a “travel diary” of sorts, quipped Ah Jie Zoe Tay.

Indeed. If you follow Jeanette on aforementioned social media platform, you’d have had a firsthand glimpse of on-set happenings – including a candid video she filmed of us, the media, eating on the job (translation: sampling freshly shucked oysters at South Melbourne Market as part of a media tour).

Jeanette indulged in the briny bivalves too (photographic evidence here) after asking us if it tasted good (yes, it did), and contrary to popular belief, this actress eats and has a hearty appetite to boot.

“All this while people think I’m very skinny and that I’m very petite and I don’t eat. But I do!” she chortled in protest, “And I exercise a lot to make up for it.”

Her secret to keeping trim and fit? Hitting the gym – time permitting – after work, or “30- to 45-minute jump rope sessions” in her hotel room, said Jeanette.

Apart from having to be in physically good shape, the actress tells us she has been trying to maintain a healthy emotional equilibrium too because playing a despondent Zhao Fei’er has affected her emotionally and mentally – so much so that she broke down and cried in the middle of filming (in Singapore) one fine day for no rhyme or reason.

“I think I shocked everybody, but it’s something that even I can’t control,” she mused.

On set in Melbourne, her character often had a distant look in her eyes, rarely smiled and appeared subdued and mellow. Before stepping into the shoes of Fei’er again, Jeanette consulted with mental health professionals to prepare for the role. Afraid of sinking in too deep, she wanted to have a safety net and “someone to turn to immediately” if necessary, she confided.

Aware of the emotional changes whirling inside her – especially since it’s evident from her moody captions and posts on social media, Jeanette later added, “Not that good, not that good. I need to pick myself up. (Laughs)”

“I’m actually a very happy girl and I’d say this is very new territory to me. I guess I can feel Fei’er because I played her in part 1 and I think there is continuity in this character and in many ways – I think our paths have crossed, and I’m probably more Fei’er than Ou Xuan (Jeanette) right now,” she laughed.

She said: "I have a massive crush on Patrick Stewart. Always have, always will."

Carrie also hinted she's a fan of the sci-fi TV series 'Star Trek,' on which Patrick played Captain Jean-Luc Picard.

She told Us Weekly magazine's 25 fun facts column: "If I could have one superpower, I would choose the power of teleportation. Travel these days is so stressful. Beam me up, Scotty!"

Darren Wang implicitly confirms relationship with Eugenie Liu

Taiwanese actor Darren Wang has all but confirmed his relationship with fellow actor Eugenie Liu, saying he would go public if he’s ever seeing someone but that he was “facing some hiccups” at the moment.

The star of the hit movie Our Times was at the film’s celebration party on Monday night when he was bombarded with questions on his love life, from the kisses he shared with director Chen Yu-shan to his going out with Eugenie Liu, a 24-year-old actress from the same agency.

Yu-shan gave a short speech at the party but took no questions.

Darren and Eugenie were seen out together recently, shopping for an iPhone 6S. The pair met on the set of a volleyball-themed movie last year and grew close.

Though Darren has repeatedly denied he was seeing anyone, and emphasised his management agency forbids artistes from confirming personal romantic relationships, he did say he liked good-natured and honest girls like Eugenie.

Kit Chan has a particular affinity with Zoe Tay’s dramas

A heavyweight drama series demands a heavyweight singer to perform its theme song, and Kit Chan is just the person to sing ‘Finally’ for the year-end mega-production, The Dream Makers 2.

“I’m happy [to perform the theme song],” the local songbird said. “The Dream Makers received good reviews and many of my favourite actors were involved in that drama. I’m honoured to sing the theme song this time around, plus I get to work with a producer I like, it’s great!”

The singer revealed she seems to have an affinity with Caldecott Hill royalty Zoe Tay: Kit won “Best Theme Song” at past Star Awards for My Home Affairs 15 years ago and again in 2012 for Devotion, and both dramas featured Zoe in the lead role.

Kit received a boost in popularity with her recent appearance on the third season of Chinese music reality programme I Am a Singer and gained significant recognition in mainland China. Besides The Dream Makers 2, the singer has recorded the theme song for the 2015 Chinese 3D animated film Monkey King: Hero is Back.

After more than two decades as a recording artist, Kit has her personal take on performing theme songs: Rather than interpret the composition based on her own perspective, she says the plot of the drama or movie must be considered.

“So with this song, I tried to express the power struggles and internal conflict in The Dream Makers 2, as well as the sense of loss and aimlessness,” Kit said.

“This song speaks to the soul of city-dwellers,” she explained. “They are so busy developing their careers, but they feel empty inside. If we could live by the lyrics in the refrain — ‘No matter the outcome, treasure the moment, let go of expectations of the future’ — we’d all be happier and more at peace.”

Having performed in musical productions, movies and drama series, would Kit have liked a part in The Dream Makers 2? “I would have enjoyed a small cameo role,” she said. “Maybe as the boss of Zoe, Li Nanxing, Qi Yuwu and Huang Biren!

“But just one day of filming is enough. I think that would have been fun.”

The Dream Makers 2 debuts December 4, 9 pm on Channel 8; it will be available on Toggle-It-First on November 26. For more information and features, visit our microsite.

Adele 'adored' Amy Winehouse

Adele "adored" Amy Winehouse.

The 'Hello' hitmaker was inspired to carve out a career in music after hearing the late singer's track 'Frank' in 2008, and went through her own "massive grieving process" after Amy's death in 2011 even though they "didn't really know each other."

The 27-year-old star said: "If it wasn't for Amy and 'Frank,' one hundred per cent I wouldn't have picked up a guitar, I wouldn't have written 'Daydreamer' or 'Hometown' and I wrote 'Someone Like You' on the guitar too.

"Contrary to reports, me and Amy didn't really know each other, we weren't friends or anything like that. I went to Brit School and she went for a little while. But a million per cent if I hadn't heard 'Frank' this wouldn't have happened. I adored her."

But Adele "felt a little bit uncomfortable" watching the recent controversial documentary 'Amy' about the 'Back to Black' hitmaker.

Asked if she had seen it, she told i-D magazine: "I did see it, yeah. I wasn't going to. I loved her and I went through my own massive grieving process as her fan. I'd finally got to a place where I felt really great about the impact she'd had on my life, in every way. I felt really, really fond of it all. But then I read this review of it and that made me go and see it.

"I got super emotional with the funeral footage. But I wasn't really that into the saved voicemails and stuff like that. I felt like I was intruding so I actually felt a little bit uncomfortable and that ruined it for me. I love watching her, but I kind of wish I hadn't seen it. But you know, I love Amy. I always have, I always will. Do you know what makes me super sad? That I'm never going to hear her voice again, other than how I've heard it."

Joanne Peh shares childbirth footage in Baby Steps

More than two months ago, actors Joanne Peh and Qi Yuwu became parents to a baby girl (nicknamed baby Qi) on August 7. In their handwritten statements to the media, the new parents spoke about Joanne’s choice to opt for a natural birth that was pain-killer free.

In today’s episode of Baby Steps, a talk show programme hosted by Joanne before and after childbirth, the actress shares never-before-seen footages of her experience in the delivery suite.

The video, which was filmed by a close female friend of Joanne, features the actress experiencing contractions and in labour, pushing out the baby, with personal cheerleader Yuwu by her side.

Prior to her birthing episode, Joanne met with several OB-GYN professionals and parents, including actor Zzen Zhang and his wife, Geline, who became parents this year, and picked up useful parenting and birthing tips from them.

Joanne, who was unsure about necessities to prepare for newborn babies, visited Zzen and his wife at their home, had a little tour of the couple’s nursery and sought breastfeeding tips from Geline too. She also met a professional doula who shared important yet practical tips to prep her for the arrival of baby Qi.

Baby Steps documents Joanne’s journey into motherhood and is a parenting programme for new parents. In a recent interview, Joanne shared that she and her daughter will be temporarily relocating to Beijing this year-end to be with Yuwu, who will be there for work

Baby Steps airs Tuesdays, 8 pm on Channel 8. Watch past episodes of it on Toggle.

Grace Chow drops subtle hint in her Instagram post

Chinese blogger Grace Chow shared a photo on Instagram yesterday with the caption “perfect match,” which appeared to be a reference to her rumoured boyfriend, Taiwanese pop singer Show Luo.

Grace, 26, was plugging a pair of sunglasses designed by Show’s fashion label, STAGE.

The couple had avoided clarifying their relationship, but after they were seen touring Tokyo together and wearing matching necklaces, Show seemed to confirm it when he wrote on Weibo, “Yes, thank you all,” in response to questions on Grace.

After rumours of a rift arose in early September, Show and Grace appear to have been leaving clues in cyberspace to the health of their relationship. Show posted a selfie of him wearing a top Grace was selling via her online store with the words “catch me” emblazoned across the front, effectively shutting down the skeptics.

Super Junior′s Choi Siwon Goes Shirtless in ′She Was Pretty′

MBC′s She Was Pretty should consider changing its name to ′He Was Pretty.′ And by he, we mean Choi Siwon.

The drama released still photos of a shirtless Choi Siwon, covered in nothing but a towel, on October 27.Episode 11 ended with a depressed Shin Hyuk (Choi Siwon) appearing to have left from The Most Korea for good, but the still photos show him at Sung Joon′s officetel with a big smile on his face, heightening viewers′ curiosity.

Choi Siwon reportedly couldn′t hide his embarrassment when he made his way to the set shirtless, but as soon as the cameras began rolling, he got into character seamlessly.

Meanwhile, She Was Pretty airs every Wednesday and Thursday at 10 p.m. KST.

Ed Sheeran throws out Justin Bieber and Mark Ronson

Ed Sheeran reportedly threw out VIP guests in his pyjamas from his hotel suite in Milan, Italy after the MTV EMAs.

The 'Thinking Out Loud' hitmaker - who co-hosted the music awards with Ruby Rose on Sunday (25.10.15) - is believed to have invited Justin Bieber, Rudimental and Mark Ronson back after the Warner label party at the ME hotel.

According to a source, Bieber beat Rudimental in a game of pool, and 'Uptown Funk' hitmaker Mark and Duran Duran's Simon Le Bon then had a game, while being delivered an endless supply of Jagerbombs.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Trollies full of Jagerbombs were being shipped to Ed's room on the top floor.

"They kept calling down requesting more, along with bottles and bottles of champagne.

"It got pretty raucous. Ruby ended up on crutches because her filming injury flared up again.

"And she ended up having a dance-off with Rudimental's Piers, who's also on crutches."

However, it all got a bit too much for the 24-year-old lightweight, who was already rather drunk and spitting expletives on live TV.

The source added: "By now, it was 3am and Ed was getting a bit tired and emotional. People still wanted to party, but he was in his night clothes and wanted to go to bed so he politely sent them all downstairs."

Shaun Chen to welcome baby girl in December

Good things come in pairs: 2015 is shaping up to be an eventful year for Shaun Chen -- not only did he pick up his first acting award for his role in The Journey: Tumultuous Times at the Star Awards ceremony in April, he married his girlfriend in July and the couple are expecting their first child – a baby girl – due in December.

Shaun, who was never revealed to be in a relationship since his divorce four years ago, explained in a phone interview with Toggle that he decided to keep the news tightly under wraps to protect the identity and privacy of his then-girlfriend and wife, Celine.

Without going into too much details, Shaun shared that he and his wife, who is in her 20s, have known each other and dated for over a year and the pair registered their marriage in Malaysia in July this year.

The couple found out about the baby’s arrival in late March, before the Star Awards ceremony, but Shaun had to keep the news to himself as it was still “early stages” of the pregnancy.

Showbiz buddy Chen Hanwei too, only just learned of the news a few days ago. “He’s really happy for me of course because I finally have a family of my own,” he chuckled.

Shaun wants to protect his wife from unnecessary attention

His wife, a former beautician, is not familiar with show business, explained Shaun, “I want to protect her and I don’t want to change, inconvenience or create any disturbances in her life, which is why I do not wish to divulge too much information about this.

“I have no intentions to make a show out of my personal life, and I think it’s important to maintain some personal space.”

When asked if he has shared the good news with his former wife, Michelle Chia, Shaun declined to comment on the matter and hopes to focus the attention on the good news instead.

With his acting career on track, the dad-to-be quipped that the baby arrived at an opportune time for him and his then-girlfriend, when they were beginning to plan for their future.

“It has been a very good year… I feel that I’m ready for this and mentally prepared. I’ve always wanted to start a family of my own and have kids too, so I have finally gotten what I’ve always wanted and definitely look forward to this new phase of life,” he added.

Shaun is ready for fatherhood

Ready to take on diaper-changing and nightly feed duties, Shaun feels he is well-prepared for fatherhood as he has many nieces and nephews back at home. “I’m not worried about getting my hands dirty. In fact I’m more worried about how to bring my child over to Singapore and my family’s future.”

The 36-year-old has been shuttling to and fro Singapore for the past few months and will be in Malaysia in November to be with his wife who is due to give birth in early December.

“She’s currently in her hometown in Kedah and is being cared for by her family. She will deliver the baby and also do her confinement there,” he said. “I hope to bring both mother and child to Singapore when the baby is slightly bigger at three to four months old.”

Shaun shared that he will be based in Singapore and the actor already has two back-to-back dramas lined up for him in 2016 -- Jue Shi Hao Gong will begin production on December 18 while filming for another yet-to-be-named drama will take place from May to September next year, he shared.

According to Shaun, all is well at home and his unborn child is very healthy too. “I don’t ask for much – I just hope everything goes smoothly and for her to grow up healthily.”

Andy Lau is just a regular dad

He may be one of the biggest names in entertainment in this part of the world, but Hong Kong singer and actor Andy Lau is just a regular parent when it comes to looking after his only child, 3-year-old Hanna.

At a recent cocktail party, the 54-year-old celebrity dad shared that because he isn’t working on any projects at the moment, he has been personally dropping off Hanna at school.

“It’s been OK,” he said, when asked about the experience of taking care of Hanna. Andy is even in charge of supervising his daughter’s studies and schoolwork. “This is how a regular family functions,” he said.

Having recently completed promotional engagements for his new movie, the action thriller Saving Mr. Wu, the actor said he won’t be starting work again until December. Asked whether that meant he had more time to spend with his family, he said, “I often get to enjoy time spent with my family, don’t worry.”

He added that his family can’t find the time to travel or go for outings, because Hanna has to attend school.

Elton John 'will love David Furnish forever'

Elton John "will love David Furnish forever".

The 'Rocket Man' singer tied the knot with his partner at their estate in Windsor in south east England last December, on the ninth anniversary of their civil partnership, and on Sunday (25.10.15) Elton posted a gushing birthday message to David on his Instagram account.

Elton, who has sons Zachary and Elijah, with David, wrote: "Happy Birthday to my beautiful, wonderful man. I will love you forever @davidfurnish. #ShareTheLove #HappyBirthday (sic)."

The couple - who met in 1993 - have championed for same-sex couples to be allowed to marry in the UK for many years, with legislation allowing it coming into force in March 2014.

The decision to wed came nine years after they committed themselves to each other in a lavish ceremony at the Windsor Guildhall which was attended by Victoria Beckham and Helena Bonham Carter among other stars.

Last year's ceremony took place next to a Damien Hirst altar, and featured their two sons as the ring bearers, with the gold bands attached to cuddly rabbit toys which they carried up the aisle.

Following the nuptials, guests enjoyed a lavish three-course meal of wild mushroom soup, beef and onion pie and warm chocolate pudding, before the newlyweds cut a personalised wedding cake for their friends to enjoy.

No wedding in sight for Rainie Yang

After Taiwanese actress Michelle Chen, 32, allegedly got engaged to her boyfriend of seven months, Chinese actor Chen Xiao, her close friend Rainie Yang has been repeatedly asked about her own wedding plans.

When asked how she felt about being “overtaken” by Michelle, her friend of eight years, the 31-year-old actress and singer said, “Good news is always welcome, and if one day it’s my darling’s turn (referring to Michelle), I’ll be thrilled too.”

But on when exactly Rainie’s wedding will be, her management agency said, “No comments on artistes’ personal lives.”

Rainie’s relationship with Chinese singer Li Ronghao, 30, was made public this February, and the couple reportedly registered their marriage in July, but they denied those rumours.

Though Ronghao said he looked forward to family life and wanted to have a boy and a girl after marriage when he appeared on a recent Mid-Autumn Festival programme, wedding bells aren’t ringing just yet. Ronghao issued a statement through his manager that read: “There is still plenty of time. I’m happy with how my life is right now, and that includes my work life and my personal life.”

Ben Yeo
What seemed like a case of an army-mate with a typical case of epilepsy turned out to be something even more sinister – and it was made worse by another soldier’s confession that his attempt to jump out of his bunk window in the middle of the night was because of a strange woman outside beckoning him to join her.

Tay Ping Hui

You know what they say – Pulau Tekong, home to our army recruits, is inhabited by more than the living. Tay Ping Hui had his own brush with the paranormal during a night activity, when he heard an eerie singing that everyone heard but no one could pinpoint. What happened to the team of four when they finally realised that something was amiss?

This tale isn’t related to the army but is no less scary than our first two encounters this week. A night-time hike through the woods on Pulau Ubin didn’t end quite the way they thought it would. You’ll probably hesitate the next time you consider looking up that innocent-looking tree after hearing this one.

Lana Del Rey's therapy over death fears

Lana Del Rey had to have therapy over her fear of dying.

The 'Born To Die' singer admitted she has panic attacks because of her worries and even saw a therapist for help.

She told Billboard: "It's hard for me sometimes to think about going on when I know we're going to die. Something happened in the last three years, with my panic [attacks]... It got worse.

"I've always been prone to it. I remember being four years old and I'd just seen a show on TV where the person was killed. And I turned to my parents and said, 'Are we all going to die?' They said 'Yes,' and I was totally distraught! I broke down in tears and said, 'We have to move!'

"I saw a therapist - three times. But I'm really most comfortable sitting in that chair in the studio, writing or singing."

And Lana admitted she has another big fear; she's scared of sharks.

Speaking about her anxiety, she said: "I'm really like my mother, in the sense that I make small lists. To calm myself down. I reward myself. You know, 'If I finish this, then I'll do that' - I'll go for a walk on the beach or swim in the ocean. I go for swims and am actually shocked I do that. Because one thing I'm terrified of is sharks."

Throwback Thursday with Romeo Tan in Melbourne

DIRECT FROM MELBOURNE: A 20-strong team consisting of cast and crew members of Channel 8’s The Dream Makers 2 flew to the land of kangaroos to film certain key scenes in the 32-episode drama series for two weeks in September. And Toggle was part of the entourage from start to finish: we got to breathe the same air, sleep under the same roof, and had equally early call times too – but that’s another story for another day.

For this week’s special ‘Dream Makers 2’ #throwbackthursday series, we have Romeo Tan, the drama’s unofficial BTS (behind-the-scenes) photographer who is never seen without a camera, during his free time, at the set in Australia. Most times, he can be found waiting (or squatting) in a corner snapping away at his co-stars and the crew as they toil.

His love for photography has spurred him to capture all sorts of memories with his camera, quipped Romeo. There are ‘mood’ and scenery shots, including candid pictures -- some of which can be found in our LIVE blog gallery from the trip too.

“I took these photos because it’s part of my interest and decided to share my photos for everyone’s use,” the budding photographer shared, “I don’t need to be credited for it, but I feel people are able to learn about our filming process from my photos and that makes me happy.”

Another good thing that came out from Romeo’s trigger-happy tendencies?

Breaking the ice with the veterans on set – we saw how he and Ah Jie bonded over selfies and photo-taking in Melbourne, including this picture we took of Zoe hiding behind Romeo at Hosier Lane because she was not dressed up yet.

“I realised that I have many pictures of me and Hui Yu Jie (Zoe) in my handphone!” he chuckled, “It’s quite funny because we don’t have any scenes together in Singapore, but we have a fair bit together in Melbourne.”

They barely shared any interactions in Singapore too, recalled Romeo, who was admittedly afraid of striking up a conversation with Ah Jie whenever he sees her around. “I’d greet her and then quietly walk away,” he laughed sheepishly.

But all formalities were dispensed with after the two spent one day on set together. Romeo started chatting with Zoe and struck up a chummy relationship with her despite seniority differences, he let on. “I hope she’s not offended by that! I’d joke with her and I enjoyed chatting with Ah Jie. She’s a senior who takes really good care of the new generation of actors.”

With cast and crew averaging four to five hours - or less - of sleep a day in Melbourne, Romeo shared that Ah Jie and Ah Ge (Zoe and Li Nanxing) are the mood makers on set who’d crack jokes to keep morale up. It certainly helps that the production crew are a jovial bunch to be with – even when the going gets tough, he said.

“I think the production crew members are humorous folks, especially the APs (assistant producers). I think what makes filming a drama memorable is the chemistry and teamwork with the production crew for the past few months. That's what I'd miss about working together”

Toggle: What’s your favourite picture taken during this trip?
Romeo: This random shot (see above picture) captured on Brighton Beach somehow shows a picture of serenity between the sky and sand. I thought it was natural plus sweet to see two dachshund dogs following their owner. Perhaps that’s what I’d love to do – to walk a dog in a blissful and peaceful environment.

When you travel abroad what do you never leave home without?
There are a few items. Priority has to be my camera that includes the batteries and chargers etc. Next is my own bath towel. I prefer to use my own towel – it’s just a habit.

What is the first thing you'd do when you enter your hotel room?
I’ll always check the cleanliness of the toilet. Everything in the room can ‘fail’ but not the toilet. The toilet is a very important space to me and I need it to be perfect or at least clean and functioning properly.

What did you do on the flight to Melbourne?
Read my script for a good two minutes (laughs), slept for a good 1 hour and 30 minutes, and watched two movies, The Longest Ride and True Story.

Most memorable filming location?
Brighton Beach.

I look forward to…
More overseas filming opportunities.

Song of the trip?
‘My Way to Love’ by Eric Chou. That happens to be the theme song for The Dream Makers 2 too.

The one item you’d take to a deserted island?
Air con lah.

What do you need for a perfect holiday?
A good friend or company.

Anything you hate about travelling?
Long haul flights as it is pretty hard to rest [on the plane].

Who out of your co-stars have you learned makes the best and worst travel partners, and why?
The best travel partner has to be me (Romeo) cause I will take excellent pictures for them.
The worst travel partner is Zoe Tay. Cause she’ll give all her attention to her Snapchat first!

Chauffeur sells house belonging to Vicki Zhao’s husband

A residence belonging to Huang You Long, the businessman husband of Chinese actress Vicki Zhao, has been sold by the couple’s chauffeur unbeknownst to them, and the buyer is suing You Long for refusing to vacate the property.

The driver impersonated his employer and managed to pass legal checks and a facial recognition system to obtain documents from a local notary office. The driver then engaged another person to conduct the sale to a certain Mr Wu, who then filed suit.

The facial recognition system used is said to be based on China’s latest second-generation personal identification scanning technology. A camera captures the image of a person’s face and compares it to information held in the database to ascertain someone’s identity.

Internet users were bewildered by how the Huangs’ driver could pass facial recognition checks. “Is he (You Long’s) fraternal twin?” “It’s good that Vicki didn’t mistake the driver for her own husband,” some wrote.

The couple are also suspected of profiting from insider trading involving the Chinese video streaming sites Youku and Tudou.

Bradley Cooper would 'never' date Jennifer Lawrence

Bradley Cooper says he would "never" sleep with Jennifer Lawrence.

The 'Burnt' star, who is dating Russian model Irina Shayk, has appeared in three films alongside the Oscar-winning beauty, 25, but insists they have never been tempted to take their friendship further.

Asked if they were ever going to hook up, the 40-year-old actor said: "Never."

Bradley, who split from 24-year-old model Suki Waterhouse earlier this year after two years of dating, previously suggested Jennifer was much too young for him, but says their 15-year age gap isn't the reason they have never gotten together in real life.

He told Howard Stern on his SiriusXM radio show: "I said that once on a red carpet just as a diffuse thing and then it became a thing because the girl I was seeing was as young as she was.

"It just didn't happen. It's not the way we are together."

Meanwhile, Bradley thinks Amy Schumer is "very attractive" and is worried he creeped her out after she joked they were dating on 'Saturday Night Live' because he refused to let her leave his side at the Time 100 Gala last April.

He explained: "All that stuff of her getting called and me saying no, no, no - that really happened. I thought I was getting a little creepy because I was making her stay."

Apple Hong returns to Singapore for love

Former MediaCorp actress Apple Hong took off for Beijing after her contract expired in 2011, but despite considerable success in making inroads into the mainland Chinese market, she’s given all that up and moved back to Singapore — for love.

“To be a virtuous wife and good mother, one can’t keep roaming about abroad,” she said.

Apple is in the midst of filming her latest project with Channel 8, a leading role in the WaWa Pictures co-produced drama The Revenge Queen. The series co-stars Jesseca Liu, Priscelia Chan, Vivian Lai and Jayley Woo as women who have been hurt in love and form a team to get back at men who have done their spouses or girlfriends wrong.

Apple plays a meek housewife named Qiao Wen. “But in real life, I’m definitely not like that,” she said. The actress says she’s an assertive modern woman who loves her freedom.

Single lady
In early February, Apple shared a photo on Instagram of her with a giant rock on her ring finger. But the actress insists she isn’t married.

“I was only engaged then, and I’m still single right now!” she said. “We haven’t picked any date for the wedding.”

Apple and her boyfriend of close to six years don’t seem to be in any hurry to tie the knot. “Our parents haven’t been pressuring us, and neither has he been rushing me,” she said. “So I’m giving it more thought. After all, it’s a major life decision, so I have to consider it carefully.”

But don’t expect any wedding on the scale of Huang Xiaoming and Angelababy’s — Apple wants a quiet, simple ceremony. “Perhaps we’ll register our marriage in the presence of close friends, and then we’ll treat them to dinner,” she said.

Now 37, Apple says she still prefers a lifestyle with greater freedom. “When I was younger, I had thought about seeking a partner who won’t demand we have children, because I didn’t want to be held back by family duties,” she said.

“But now, I’ll let things run their course — having children would be nice too.”

The Revenge Queen debuts February 17, 9 pm on Channel 8.

Vivian Hsu celebrates son’s second month

Taiwanese actress and first-time mother Vivian Hsu marked her son’s second month on Monday with gift boxes of cakes sent to friends.

Vivian, 40, also snapped an unconventional family portrait with her husband, his two daughters, and baby Dalton. Vivian’s husband is a skilled ice hockey player, and the family of five donned custom hockey jerseys, ordered before Dalton was born.

Vivian’s and Dalton’s jerseys read “319” together, which happens to refer to Vivian’s birthday, March 19.

Asked whether her husband was any help with looking after their son, Vivian said, “He’s experienced, he knows poop stinks so whenever Dalton poops he’ll hand the baby to me!”

Vivian gave birth to Dalton by caesarean section in Singapore on August 13, and the actress is working with her personal trainer to rebuild her muscle strength.

Jennifer Connelly wants to age naturally

Jennifer Connelly has sworn off plastic surgery.

The Oscar-winning actress. 44, says she will never succumb to the pressures of Hollywood because she doesn't "want to erase [her] history" from her face.

The 'Winter's Tale' star said: "We equate beauty for women with youth, and that's sad. It's a shame it's so hard for so many of us to appreciate the beauty of an older woman and to accept it in ourselves. I don't want to erase my history on my face."

But the brunette beauty insists she doesn't judge any of her peers for choosing to go under the knife in a bid to preserve their youthful appearances.

The 'American Pastoral' star told the November issue of More magazine: "There's a window of time, a hump to get over, because it's inevitable. I love that Radiohead song 'Fake Plastic Trees': 'He used to do surgery for girls in the '80s, but gravity always wins.' It's certainly a dialogue I have with myself. And I don't judge; every woman has to make her own choice. But for me it's more beautiful to see the person."

Jennifer's husband Paul Bettany also claims she is very low maintenance when it comes to her looks.

The 44-year-old actor said: "Jennifer is wildly beautiful, but she has no investment in it. Our two sons spend more time in the bathroom in the morning than she does. That pressure to be attractive hasn't ever landed on her."

Selina Jen bursts into tears after completing half-marathon

Since completing the “WE RUN TPE” half-marathon in April, Selina Jen of Taiwanese pop trio S.H.E. has repeated the feat in San Francisco over the weekend, finishing with a timing 10 minutes slower.

The singer, who has spent the past five years recovering from horrific third-degree burns sustained during filming, broke down after crossing the finish line.

In a 53-second video clip uploaded to Facebook, a teary-eyed Selina said she had taken a rest and eaten some food, then started wailing uncontrollably. “I’ve relaxed now, but I still really want to cry!” she said to the camera.

“There are so many things I wish to tell you all, but I’m just too tired right now,” she wrote on Facebook. “As you can see, emotional triggers come to me as unexpectedly as my period.”

The singer’s mother posted a message of support: “So touched — Selina, my dear, love you!”

'Life - Fear Not' ruined Carrie Wong's impression of Aloysius Pang

There was laughter and friendly jibes galore between Aloysius Pang and Carrie Wong during our interview at yesterday's press conference for Life - Fear Not, but just six months ago, it was a completely different scene at the Star Awards.

Both of the rising local stars were contending for Best Newcomer, and although they sat together during the ceremony, they barely exchanged words as it was their very first time meeting each other.

"The only sentence he said to me was, 'Later I'm going to move my leg so you can pass through to get your award', but in the end he won!" Carrie recalled with a laugh. Because of Aloysius' quiet and reserved demeanour, she said that the initial image she had of him was that of "a cool kid".

That all changed when they reunited for the upcoming Channel 8 long-form drama, where they play onscreen lovers. According to Aloysius, in order to get into his lively character Zhuang Dao Ren, he tries to maintain a very high level of energy on set by cracking jokes and singing, even when the cameras aren't rolling.

But his "method acting" came with a price: "(Carrie) said that after she knew me on set, I practically ruined my own impression."

"I prefer the real him because he's someone I'm very comfortable with," Carrie, who plays the delusional Bai Mei Gui, explained. "It's very unnatural for him to be so high." (After some probing from Aloysius, the Hey Gorgeous 2013 runner-up admitted that she still thinks he is a cool kid.)

Aloysius had his fair share of "incriminating" Carrie tales to regale us with. "She falls down a lot," he reported. "It has become such a classic thing that whenever someone else trips, I say, 'You just did a Carrie!' She also doesn't know how to hold plastics bags or open bottles."

Jokes and roasts aside, the co-stars had plenty to praise about their chemistry, which came quickly and easily to them. "On my first day of filming with Aloysius, I knew we were going to be okay," said Carrie, giving their chemistry a generous rating of eight to nine out of 10.

The duke agreed with her assessment. "It's very comfortable working with her; whatever we do while filming comes very naturally, we don't have to plan our reactions," he said.

Life - Fear Not could potentially present a notable first for both young actors: a wedding scene. However, as the complete script for the 120-episode programme has yet to be released, nothing has been confirmed.

If it does come to pass, Aloysius hopes that it will happen after his character suffers the tragic fate of becoming handicapped (again, details on this are still fuzzy). "It would be beautiful to see my character, after going through whatever he's gone through, walk down the aisle."

Does Felicia Chin intend to reopen The Mama Shop?

Another woman in Aloysius' character's life is his older sister Zhuang Dao Han, played by Felicia Chin. Despite collaborating for the very first time, they are already behaving like real siblings.

"We have a very fun relationship and we're always teasing each other - he's really like a younger brother of mine," she told us in a separate interview. "It's nice to share a good bond with a new co-star."

His gentlemanly gestures also earned a string of compliments from the actress. "He's very nice and considerate. Once, when the weather was hot, he forked out his own money to buy portable fans for us! It gave me a very good impression of him," she gushed, adding that she'd love to be paired up with him as a couple in future projects.

In the meantime, she will be busy romancing a range of other fictional male suitors in Life - Fear Not, including Zhang Yao Dong, Jeffrey Xu and Elvin Ng. The latter will provide a nice dose of nostalgia for fans of 2012's Don't Stop Believin', as it features him returning as Wu Yanbin out searching for Du Siman, Felicia's character in the older drama. Viewers will have to stay tuned to find out if Dao Han is really Siman with amnesia, or if Yanbin has just mistaken her for his lost love.

Just as her onscreen father Zhuang Shui Qing (Chen Shu Cheng) owns traditional inn My Humble Lodge in the series, Felicia, too, has started businesses of her own. In October last year, she teamed up with Sora Ma to open café The Mama Shop; then, in May this year, she launched seafood eatery Wholly Crab.

Sadly, The Mama Shop announced its sudden closure in August. "There were a lot of factors (such as) issues with how the place was, but there's no need to go into details," she shared. "It's just unfortunate that certain things happened, but ultimately The Mama Shop will always be a brand and if there's a suitable time and place to reopen, then why not?"

EXID′s Hani Reveals Her Bold Appetite

EXID′s Hani boasted a bold appetite.

The contents of Hani′s refrigerator were revealed on JTBC′s Please Take Care of My Refrigerator on October 19.When chef Choi Hyun Suk asked, "Is there a a food you want in particular?" Hani answered, "I like foods with strong flavors. I think I have a dull palate compared to others. The members and I have different tastes in food."

As soon as Kim Sung Joo asked, "Do you like things that are strongly seasoned?" Hani emphasized that she does before going on to reveal her unexpected appetite.

Hani said, "I eat a lot as well. I eat 3-4 servings of meat by myself," shocking everyone. She continued, "I eat whatever I want once a week, and I always eat seasoned intestines," before adding "Seasoned everything."

Taylor Swift feels lucky to be liked

Taylor Swift feels "lucky" to be liked by the public.

The 'Bad Blood' hitmaker - who earns $1 million a day - considers herself fortunate that people like her songs but believes her good luck could change at any time.

She told Australia's VOGUE magazine: "Things are good right now but I'm never going to be stupid, foolish or ignorant enough to think I have control over the public. All I can control is making good music.

"I am so lucky that people seem to like me right now, but in no way, shape or form is it a permanent thing. And I think being aware of that is what keeps you smart and is what keeps you on the game."

The 25-year-old star added that if people get sick of her, she has no problem with taking some time off to.

She explained: "Then I'll feel like I'll need to give people a breather."

Taylor also believes it's good to be aware that fans and critics could turn against her at any time.

She added: "The public could change their minds about me tomorrow. If they decided that I was annoying tomorrow, they would use that angle and then a few other writers would use that and it would catch on."

Former 5566 manager Sun De Rong arrested on drug charges

Famed Taiwanese entertainment manager Sun De Rong was arrested on Friday (Oct 16) on suspicions of abusing drugs.

Sun De Rong is the main manager of music label J-Star, which housed then-heavyweights including 5566, 183 Club and 7 Flowers. He was well-known to be extremely strict with his artistes, and is rumoured to have kicked former 183 Club member Jacky Chu out of the group for a number of reasons: having a messy love life, constant late-night partying and marijuana abuse. Only the first two reasons were acknowledged by the company.

Taiwanese police are said to have applied for search warrants after receiving tip-offs and arrived at Sun De Rong’s Neihu home at night, where they found two packets of Amphetamine, a potent central nervous system stimulant. A common street name for the substance is speed. He was subsequently arrested and brought back to the Changchun police station for investigations.

Yesterday (Oct 18), former 5566 member Zax Wang shared that Sun De Rong turned to drugs as a way to deal with bladder cancer. Two years ago, the manager shared with the media that he was diagnosed with cancer but kept the details and severity of the situation tightly under wraps.

According to Zax, Sun De Rong has removed his prostate, lymph nodes, seminal vesicle and even his reproductive organs in order to have a chance at survival. He has gone through two major surgeries and three months of radiotherapy and chemotherapy to battle his cancer, which was in the third stage. Doctors used 50cm of his large intestines to create an artificial bladder for him and close friends shared that it was painful to watch him suffer.

5566’s leader, Tony Sun, shared through his personal Facebook that Sun De Rong had to get up to relieve himself six to eight times every night and was diagnosed with kidney inflammation caused by sepsis when he had to hold in his urine. Even then, he would smile and assure friends that he was fine, causing them to worry even more for him.

This was Tony’s first public statement after news of his divorce from Angel Han broke. The pair is reportedly so close that Tony treats Sun De Rong as his father. He continued, “My dad made a mistake and he’ll be dealt with according to the law. Shouldn’t everyone give him one chance (so that) this amazingly strong man doesn’t stumble? This is my only request.” Showing his support for his former manager, he added, “We all need you to watch over us, so chin up dad!”

A-Do plans to marry, have kids next year

Remember A-Do, the homegrown Mandopop singer who shot to fame in the noughties with his distinctive raspy voice and floppy hair? He may have faded somewhat from the local scene in recent years, but he’s not yet through with music.

The former construction foreman will make a brief return to Singapore with his performance of ‘I Really Want to Tell You’, the theme song for Channel 8’s upcoming xinyao-themed drama series, Crescendo, which premieres October 23.

Toggle caught up with the 42-year-old on Wednesday, and A-Do (whose real name is Do Cheng Yi) openly talked about what he’s up to these days. Besides planning to register his marriage to his long-time girlfriend, surnamed Lai, after Chinese New Year in 2016, he didn’t shy away from sharing his intention to have kids before the year is out.

“We prefer to keep a low profile,” he said, “But when we get married we’ll definitely inform everyone.”

On the music front, A-Do had been preparing a new album, due to be released last year, when his mother was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. The singer moved back here from China to care for his mother, and the album launch is expected to take place next June.

Having lived in Singapore for the past two years without attracting much attention, A-Do said he spent his time as a homebody, so few realised he had returned.

Since ghosting from the entertainment circle in 2007, he has made few public appearances; his recent events included performing as a special guest at one of Jody Chiang’s farewell concerts in August, and promoting the Taiwanese album of Angel Chu, wife of Taiwanese host and entertainer Nono Chen.

Besides music, A-Do has also been venturing into business, investing in property in China and even a Chinese philosophy institute. But the humble singer said he’s not cut out for business and wouldn’t call himself a hot-shot tycoon.

“I’ve been invited to invest in food and beverage, but I’m not familiar with that industry, so I turned down the offer,” he said.

His latest project is an aesthetic clinic in Guangzhou, China, that he is funding with old friends who have a background in aesthetic medicine.

“They’re in charge of managing the clinic’s operations, while I take care of the ribbon-cutting.” A-Do said.

Crescendo premieres on October 23, 9 pm on Channel 8; watch it on Toggle-It-First.
