Angelica Lee and Oxide Pang’s public display of affection

In May, Malaysian actress Angelica Lee decided to forgive her husband Hong Kong director Oxide Pang, after he was caught red-handed for cheating on her with model Liddy Li. Months following the scandal, the couple was spotted in public together on several occasions.

On Saturday, Angelica and her stepdaughter Xin Xin (Oxide’s child from his previous marriage) attended Malaysian singer Penny Tai’s wedding in Taipei. The 12-year-old had reportedly rallied behind Angelica when Oxide’s affair was exposed, which played a part in salvaging the couple’s four-year marriage.

According to Angelica, Oxide could not make it for Penny’s wedding due to work. “Filming will wrap on Dec 29. Then we’ll go back to Malaysia to welcome the New Year,” she said.

When asked on baby-making plans, the 38-year-old actress calmly replied: “Let nature take its course. Regardless we have children or not, we must live happily.”

After the wedding, Angelica and Xin Xin met up with Oxide for a seafood feast at the roadside stall. In the company of their friends, the family of three was seen enjoying their meal and even took photos as a memento.

As it started to pour, Oxide returned to the hotel to get an umbrella which he used to shelter his wife while they walked on the streets cuddling each other.

Fan Bingbing’s drama forced off air

Chinese actress Fan Bingbing left then-management company Huayi Brothers in 2007 to set up Fan Bingbing Studio. Apart from building a team to manage all her projects, the company has also produced dramas in which the multi-hyphenate stars in.

The Empress of China is one such production – one that boasts a budget of over RMB300 million (S$64 million), making it the most expensive TV series in Chinese history. Its story revolves around Wu Zetian, the only female Chinese emperor in history.

The show enjoyed immense popularity since its pilot episode but was suddenly pulled off air without prior warning. Its broadcaster, Hunan TV, cited technical problems for the sudden halt in broadcast but it is widely believed that there are other reasons involved.

Insiders have claimed that the 82-episode series was forced off air for its excessive skin exposure from its female cast. From palace maids to concubines, the outfits are said to have exposed too much of their chests. As such, the post-production team is said to be scrambling to find a way to rectify the problem as the drama wrapped filming in August.

Another possibility raised is that regulations set by the SAPPRFT (State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of the People’s Republic of China) have gotten in the way of its broadcast. It is understood that period dramas may not exceed 15% of all primetime content airing at any time.

Fan Bingbing posted an ambiguous declaration on her microblog after The Empress of China was pulled, stating, “He who wears the crown has to bear its weight!”

The Empress of China is slated to return to the small screens on January 1.

G.E.M. raises ire for repeated lateness

G.E.M. Tang shot to fame after participating in reality series I Am A Singer 2 but has been plagued with rumours of alleged diva behaviour.

The singer performed in Macau on December 26 and was scheduled to take a helicopter to Hong Kong for the annual Metro Radio Hits Music Awards immediately afterwards. There was a hiccup in the carefully orchestrated plan due to bad weather and she had to take a ferry instead. This reportedly caused her to take six hours to reach the awards ceremony.

According to reports, numerous singers were waiting for her arrival to perform an a cappella number, causing dissatisfaction to brew among the performers and audience alike. Audience numbers were said to have dwindled to a mere 30% by the time she took the stage to perform and receive her four trophies. Among her accolades was the highly regarded Singer of the Year Award.

The ceremony eventually wrapped at 12.30am, about an hour behind schedule. Singers and members of the media then headed for the celebratory feast that was scheduled to start at 1am but G.E.M. arrived 45 minutes late. The guest list included big names such as Andy Hui and Kay Tse.

She apologised profusely when she arrived, “I didn’t know, once (the awards ceremony) ended I went to touch up my makeup, pack up my things and came straight for the celebrations. I’m sorry, I don’t know how to make it up (to everyone, but) I made 260 cookies that I hope everyone will like.”

Netizens, however, had a different story to tell. They discovered that she uploaded a photo of her with her trophies backstage with a timestamp that correlated to the celebratory dinner’s start time. Fans also uploaded photos taken with her that were taken during that timeframe, raising suspicions that her statement was not wholly true.

Justin Bieber flirts with model

Justin Bieber is reportedly eyeing up another model.

The 'All Around The World' hitmaker posted a photograph of Scarlett Leithold on his Instagram account, fuelling speculation that he wants to ''hookup'' with her.

A source said: ''Any time he posts a picture of a girl on any of his social media, it's is only for one reason - to hookup with them.

''He meets so many girls that he asks for their Twitter handles or number, and he has many ways to get a hold of them through direct message or texts from his bodyguard's phones.''

However, it's not just Scarlett that the 20-year-old singer has his eye on.

Justin is rumoured to be dating 18-year-old model, Hailey Baldwin but is believed to still be harbouring feelings for his ex-girlfriend, Selena Gomez, 22.

A source told HollywoodLife.com: ''He doesn't care one day and then freaks out the next. His current feelings are that he doesn't care about Selena.

''The times he is with Hailey he doesn't think of Selena. But the second Hailey isn't around then Selena is on his mind.''

Justin may want his on/off lover back but the 'Come And Get It' hitmaker is reportedly sick of being labelled as his girlfriend.

A source close to Selena previously revealed: ''Hearing that she is with Justin and should be with Justin or shouldn't be with Justin is exhausting.

''She always reads about herself and Google's herself and she hates being known as Justin's girlfriend or not his girlfriend. She wants to be known in her eyes and to others as Selena Gomez.''

''The way they talk to each other, touch each other. It's incredible.''

Meanwhile, another source recently revealed that Sofia's family has given the 'Magic Mike' actor their seal of approval.

The 42-year-old actress and model's son, Manolo, 22 and niece Claudia are big fans of the 'True Blood' star.

The source explained: ''Her son is her biggest priority - and harshest relationship critic. But he approves of Joe.''

In June, Sofia ended her engagement to Nick Loeb and the businessman is believed to have been unable to form a close bond with her family.

The insider said: ''It was no secret that Sofia's family disliked him. But they've really embraced Joe. He makes Sofia happy.''

The brunette beauty recently revealed that she thought Joe was ''too handsome'' for her at first.

She said: ''I had just seen him very far away at events. I thought he was very handsome, but I wasn't interested. Too handsome.''

Yvonne Lim welcomes baby boy, Alex Junior

Following Andie Chen and Kate Pang’s Aden, Fann Wong and Christopher Lee’s Zed, we now have another addition to the growing brood of celebrity kids on this little red dot, Yvonne Lim and Alex Tien’s little bundle of joy, Alex Junior.

Originally due to be a countdown baby, Yvonne and Alex was afraid their baby wouldn’t be about to “tahan (last) till” the actual countdown on December 31 and decided to opt for a Caesarean-section in the afternoon today, after visiting their gynae on Christmas Eve, said Alex, during a phone interview with xinmsn just now.

Weighing a healthy 3.6kg, Alex said that his first reaction when he saw Alex Junior (nicknamed ‘AJ’ by his parents) was: “Woah! So big already!” He added that AJ’s Chinese name would be decided by his dad, the baby’s grandfather.

When we asked him if the baby took after him or Yvonne, Alex jokingly said, “They say the baby will look different every day. He’s a bit bloated due to water retention right now – so he looks like me (laughs). I don’t know exactly who he’d look like when the water retention goes down. But right now, he looks chubby, so that’s like me.”

Recalling his experience in the operating theatre, the first-time father said, “Everything happened so fast. The baby was out in no time and started crying so loudly. I cut the umbilical cord and then we had to take his weight, do some measurements, injections and then settle the paperwork.”

“Everything went really smoothly. The baby’s out!” he chuckled.

Alex shared that apart from trying to keep a cool composure, he had to calm Yvonne down too because “she’s really afraid of pain.”

“She has heard of different stories from different mums. But at the end of the day, she was really brave and when the baby was crying, I could tears come down from her eyes. I almost cried too,” he shared, “But I had to stay calm.”

The former boyband member let on that he started recording with his Google glasses when AJ came out and intends to show the baby the footage when he grows older.

Alex shared that it has been a steep learning curve for both of them as first-time parents. Since getting back to the ward, they’ve been learning how to handle the baby, latching, swaddling and more. “I’m not really good at it yet, but I hope I can get everything hands on,” he said.”

With Yvonne due to do her confinement in Singapore, Alex shared that he’d be accompanying her throughout the entire period and said his family members would fly in to visit after the peak travel season during Christmas and New Year is over.

Hannah Quinlivan: I was really touched by Jay’s proposal

Hannah Quinlivan, also known as the girl who captured Jay Chou’s heart, was the centre of attention at a press event for upcoming Taiwanese drama Heart of Steel. The model-actress plays one of the supporting roles but was bombarded with questions on her beau, marriage and more.

Heart of Steel, which is slated to premiere on January 4, will also be Hannah’s last project before she ties the knot with her superstar fiancée. The idol drama also stars Kenji Wu, Phoebe Yuan and Alan Kuo.

She shared, “I cried when we were wrapping up filming (because) I really couldn’t bear to part ways (with everyone); I really hoped that we could continue filming.”

The 21-year-old responded to Jay’s declaration of “wanting to have five kids and start a band”, shyly expressing that she would be more than happy to “if I can give birth to that many”, adding that they “will let nature take its course”.

Speaking of receiving Jay’s romantic proposal in England, she admitted, “I think most girls would have been touched; I was surprised by the fireworks and I was really touched by the environment and atmosphere created.”

Hannah, who looked noticeably slimmer during the press event, refuted speculations that her weight loss was to fit into her wedding gown and maintained that it is “for work-related reasons”.

Tony Leung’s daughter celebrates 13 months with boyfriend

Award-winning actor Tony Leung Ka-fai - not to be confused with Tony Leung Chiu-wai, who is married to Carina Lau - has been thrust into the spotlight during the past year. The reason: his 21-year-old twin daughters, Nikkie and Chloe, have been posting attention-grabbing pictures of themselves on their respective social media sites – snaps of them in teeny-tiny scraps of cloth and/or engaging in public displays of affection with various men.

Tony Leung’s daughter celebrates 13 months with boyfriend © Provided by xinmsn Tony Leung’s daughter celebrates 13 months with boyfriend
Tony, however, remains unperturbed. Older daughter Nikkie recently celebrated her 13th month of dating with her Caucasian boyfriend, uploading a photo in which she is locked in a passionate kiss with her beau.

It is understood that his daughters are studying at a university outside Vancouver, Canada, where Nikkie is pursuing an arts degree. She once uploaded a shot of her with her boyfriend but quickly deleted it, with some speculating that it was due to objections from her father.

This time, however, she had no qualms uploading the photo together with a caption declaring her love for her boyfriend, thanking him for giving her courage to try new things. She shared that the two went through a roller-coaster ride during their 13 months together and that their feelings grow by the day, ending off with the hope that their love will continue to blossom.

Jackie Chan: I’ve never used my connections to save Jaycee

It’s been a rough time for superstar Jackie Chan and his wife, Lin Feng-jiao, after their only son Jaycee Chan was arrested in August for marijuana abuse. Since then, the 32-year-old has been formally charged by Chinese courts and is said to possibly spend his Lunar New Year behind bars.

The multi-hyphenate opened up about his son’s scandal, revealing that neither him nor his wife has met Jaycee since his arrest and have only communicated with their son through their lawyer. Jaycee reportedly requested for his parents not to visit, saying that “I will be responsible for my own matters and I don’t want to affect my father. I’m content knowing that my mom is alright (because) I know my dad can pull through this. I’ve grown up!”

The 60-year-old shared, “He’s been requesting a variety of books and asks for them every time (the lawyer visits). He’s never read so many books in his many years and the lawyer says that his words have matured a lot.”

Jackie was further heartened by news that Jaycee has taken to writing songs and scripts in his spare time, adding that he has seen the change in his son’s lifestyle. “He washes his own underwear and makes his own bed. He does everything himself, which is great! The lessons that he’s learning in there are the harshest anywhere and will definitely be unforgettable,” the actor mused.

Emphasising that he has never used his connections to save Jaycee, Jackie revealed that he rejected the lawyer’s advice to apply for Jaycee’s bail. “Because he’s Jackie Chan’s son; because he’s broken the country’s law – how would the public look at us if Jaycee Chan only went to jail for a week? We’re public figures and have an even greater responsibility to live within the law.”

Lin Feng-jiao, however, has not been taking well to her son’s arrest. “What makes me feel regretful is Jaycee’s mom. It’s always been her who has been looking after him because of my work. I’ve spent more time apart than together with him and she hasn’t left the house nor met with anyone for four and a half months. She blames herself for what happened,” Jackie confessed.

Calling himself a responsible but bad father, he professed that he “doesn’t feel heartbroken” over his son’s situation and instead chose to focus on the future.

Jackie concluded, “I hope he walks his own path when he’s released. I won’t give him any further pressure because I trust that he’s already learned his lesson and will become a stronger and better person than before. Which person doesn’t make mistakes when they’re young? I hope that the media, public and his fans can give him another chance to turn over a new leaf – this will be a big push in the right direction for him.”

Throughout the three-hour shoot, Nicholas was also seen happily chatting on the phone during breaks.

Additionally, sharp-eyed reporters noticed that the 34-year-old was wearing the same Cartier “Love Bangle” which marked the token of love between Faye and Nicholas back when they first dated 14 years ago.

Shaun Chen on acting journey: It’s been a blessing in 2014

After making a stab at Taiwan’s showbiz industry and advancing his acting career abroad, Shaun Chen returned to Singapore bearing more appeal than ever as leading man material.

The Malaysian-Chinese’s first project upon his return, Channel 8’s Blessings, won rave reviews all around for its time-travelling and feel-good nostalgic vibes, and the drama is currently ranked one of the top 3 shows of 2014. The good reviews do not end here.

Shortly after his turn as a pastry chef in Blessings, he “time-travelled” back to the 1950s again to take on a lead role in The Journey: Tumultuous Times as a good natured hooligan, Hu Jia (a.k.a. Zhang Jia) who was, unfortunately, separated from his family members when World War II hit Singapore. Thanks to the lively performance and precocious antics put forth by his two younger selves (actors Damien Teo and Zong Zijie), Shaun’s flippant portrayal of his character has also left a deep impression on viewers.

If you’ve been tuning into the show on a daily basis at 9pm, you’d know that one of the major story arcs (spoiler alert!) last Friday saw the demise of Hu Weiren, Hu Jia’s adoptive father (played by Chen Hanwei). The emotional scene was said to be one of Shaun’s key performances in the drama which, according to his co-star Hanwei, would most likely help him bag a Best Actor nomination in 2015’s Star Awards.

When we spoke to Shaun at the imaging session for the third and final series of The Journey: Our Homeland where he’d be reprising his role as a “more mature” Zhang Jia (yes, he’s back to his original name), the actor let in on his nomination hopes too.

“It’d be very satisfying (to get nominated),” he admitted, “It was really gratifying to act with Hanwei, he helped me along and gave me some tips and brought out the emotions in my character. When I watched that episode (20), I was so touched I teared a little… This show was a really satisfying project for me.”

Shaun also shared that he hopes to get nominated alongside his adoptive father next year. “We’ve spoken about it and if he gets nominated for Best Supporting Actor, I’d want to get nominated for Best Actor. We hope to go on stage hand-in-hand to receive the award together,” he joked.

When we broached the possibility of scoring a double nom for his likeable turn as Lian Wending in Blessings, the candid actor confessed that he “did think about it” but said, “I’m afraid I might go home empty-handed even with the double nomination. That’s even worse! That’s akin to dropping in the river (referring to a scene in Tumultuous Times, we reckon)!”

As his acting career steadily picks up with another Taiwanese drama project on the horizon in 2015 (nothing’s confirmed at the moment though, he added), things are definitely beginning to look rosy for Shaun. “2014 has been a bountiful year for me,” he conceded, “Thanks to ‘Blessings’ I’ve landed (the role) in Tumultous Times’. I don’t know what to say (except ‘Thank You’) but I’ll continue to do my very best and do each role justice.”

Now that his career is moving in the right direction, will we see some developments or progress in his love life too?

“Not yet, I guess,” laughed Shaun, who previously shared that he has someone in mind. “We’re still in the observation stage, any developments really depends on fate too.”

The Journey: Our Homeland debuts July 6, 2015 on weekdays at 9pm on Channel 8. Visit the show’s official site for more information on The Journey trilogy.

I’m sorry. I will watch my actions from now on. Please see it lovely,” Hyeri mentioned to Dongwoon’s personal Twitter account along with a collage picture of her pouting on camera and bowing.

It appears that during the “2014 MelOn Music Awards” event last month, Hyeri mocked BEAST when Dongwoon relayed his award-acceptance speech. In the fan-taken video that went viral, Hyeri is seen copying Dongwoon’s words and laughed around, showing her disrespectful act to her senior.

However, Heyeri’s tweet only lead netizens to question what is her intention. “That happen last month, right? Why apologize now?”, “Direct tweet to Dongwoon, that is not a right way to apologize”, “Trying being cute, did you sincerely apologize?”, and “Taken in drama set, another media play?” they said.

China charges Jackie Chan's son over drug offense

China's state prosecutor said on Monday it had formally charged Jaycee Chan, son of kung fu movie star Jackie Chan, with a drugs offense, meaning he is almost certain to face trial.

The younger Chan, a 32-year-old actor and singer, was arrested in Beijing this year after testing positive for marijuana, with police saying they found 100 grams of the drug at his home.

In a brief statement on its official microblog, the Supreme People's Procuratorate said it had begun legal proceedings against him for "the crime of sheltering others to take drugs". It did not elaborate.

President Xi Jinping said in June that China would "harshly crack down" on narcotics, state media reported.

Action and comedy star Jackie Chan, 60, served as a goodwill spokesman for the China National Anti-Drug Committee in 2009, state media reported, promoting anti-drug education.

Jaycee Chan was not available for comment. In August, his father offered the public a "deep bow of apology" for his son's arrest.

China has detained a string of other mostly B-list celebrities in recent months on drug-related charges, cases that have been publicized widely in both state and social media. They have included movie and television stars, film directors and a prominent screenwriter.

Drug crimes carry harsh penalties in China including death or life imprisonment in serious cases.

Illegal drugs, especially synthetic substances like methamphetamine, ketamine and ecstasy, have grown in popularity in China in tandem with the rise of a new urban class with greater disposable income.

JJ Lin hams it up with his wax figure at Madame Tussauds

2014 has been a big year for JJ Lin. Not only did the he pick up the coveted Best Mandarin Male Singer prize at Taiwan’s Golden Melody Awards in June, he was honoured with his own wax statue at Madame Tussauds Singapore.

The 33-year-old, who unveiled his figure at the attraction today (Dec 22), was truly delighted coming face to face with his wax likeness and even hammed it up for the cameras.

“I finally know how it feels to have an identical twin!” said the singer, whose parents were present at the unveiling. “I think that it is great although the first reaction I had was like ‘Woah, doppelganger!’”

JJ met the team from Madame Tussauds in Taiwan, where he is based, in April to be measured and photographed for the creation of his figure. No detail in the figure was spared, from the singer’s signature dimpled-smile to his outfit, which he donated, and pose.

“I decided let’s do something that I would be doing on stage because I think the stage and the microphone represents what I have been doing for the past 11 years.

“I wanted my wax figure to present the JJ Lin that all my fans got to know on stage but also I wanted him to wear something that I would feel comfortable in in everyday life so when people come to take pictures, they would feel like it’s the real JJ Lin. This is what I wear in my own free time and the apparel is from my own label SMG. I wanted him to feel close to the people who come to see ‘me’,” he laughed.

However, that smile flashed across the singer’s face didn’t come easy. Recalling the “arduous” sitting, JJ said the most challenging part was not holding still in the pose for six hours, but keeping that smile.

"It is easy to smile but not to keep that same smile throughout and to be really smiling. I think the most challenging part would be to keep that real smile from your heart but as time goes by, you feel yourself tensing up!”

Though JJ declined to rate his own wax double, he said that it is a dream come true to have his own figure at Madame Tussauds and to be recognised and remembered in such a unique way.

“To know that such a significant place in Singapore is willing to give me this honour [of having my own wax figure], makes me feel very happy.

“It’s one thing to receive an award on stage but it’s another to know that you are given a wax figure and being recognised and remembered in a really unique way. It’s something that you can come back to every year, something that you can come back to when you are old to see. It represents my whole life as a performer, a musician and as a Singaporean. I feel really proud to be featured in Madame Tussauds,” adding “now I can be beside Michael Jackson!”

JJ’s figure, which costs around S$300,000 to make and four months to complete, will be displayed in the Music section alongside local songbird Stefanie Sun, Mando-pop star Jay Chou and JJ’s idol Michael Jackson.

The museum in Sentosa opened its doors in October and features about 60 wax figures including local personalities such as Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, film-maker Jack Neo, late actor Huang Wenyong. They are displayed alongside international stars like Lady Gaga and David Beckham.

Mila Kunis sparks wedding rumours

Mila Kunis and Ashton have sparked rumours they've gotten married.

The 'Black Swan' actress, who gave birth to a baby girl, Wyatt Isabelle, with the 36-year-old actor in late October, has fuelled speculation she may have recently tied the knot with her former 'That 70s Show' co-star after being spotted wearing a new platinum band below her diamond engagement ring while enjoying a rare date night with him on Friday (19.12.14).

The 31-year-old beauty made no attempt to conceal the ring as she and her fiancé watched the Los Angeles Lakers take on Oklahoma City Thunder at the Staples Centre.

The pair were also very affectionate during the basketball game and happily puckered up for the Kiss Cam, according to MailOnline.

A spokesperson for the couple, who started dating in 2012 and got engaged earlier this year, has yet to comment on the wedding rumours, but Mila previously vowed to keep their nuptials an extremely private affair.

She recently said: ''I never wanted to get married. From the age of 12, I prepared my parents for no marriage. Then things changed -- I found the love of my life. Now my theory on weddings is: Don't invite anyone. Do it privately and secretly.

''My parents are okay with that. They're just excited that I said yes.''

Ashton was previously married to actress Demi Moore, 52, for eight years, who he split from in November 2011 after he was accused of cheating on her.

Angelica Lee spotted without wedding ring

Malaysian actress Angelica Lee declared last month that she is ready to spend her life with husband Oxide Pang after the two’s relationship was thrust in the spotlight.

Oxide was revealed in May to have cheated on his wife with model Liddy Li but Angelica assured that she had forgiven him and shared that the pair was spending more time together to rebuild the relationship.

Recent reports, however, suggest that the tables might have turned as Angelica was spotted at a press event last Friday for television series The Election sans her wedding ring.

The 38-year-old reportedly tried to hide her hands once the media discovered the missing band and gave ambiguous responses to questions posed by reporters. When questioned if she will be spending more time with her husband in Hong Kong, she smilingly replied that she is based in her native Malaysia but will not hesitate to fly to Hong Kong for work.

With regards to Oxide’s affair, she maintained that she has “let go of it; whatever it was in the past has to eventually move forward”.

Prior to the press event, Angelica was spotted with an unnamed middle-aged male at Causeway Bay while Oxide was out of the country. Along with a female assistant, the two spent hours shopping before stopping for a meal along Cleveland Street.

Angelica smilingly enveloped the man in a hug before boarding a company car after the meal. It is understood that Oxide intended for his wife to accompany him for his business trip but the actress was too wrapped up with The Election to tag along.

Did sparks fly between Eddie Peng and Cecilia Liu?

Chinese actress Cecilia Liu may be very much in love with boyfriend Nicky Wu right now, but reports suggest that the 27-year-old was more than friends with Eddie Peng prior to confirming her relationship with Nicky.

The two starred in Chinese drama Sound of the Desert which aired earlier this year but started filming in 2012. Recent revelations from the crew who worked with them have suggested that the leads were in an ambiguous relationship for half a year but ultimately ended things when Cecilia and Nicky’s relationship went public.

The two developed a good rapport while working on television series The Young Warriors and Eddie is said to have been overjoyed when he heard that he would be able to star alongside Cecilia once again. He is reported to have declared, “There’s nothing more beautiful than being able to work with Cecilia Liu again!”

While rumours of the two being more than friends circulated at the time, they never confirmed nor denied the reports. The two were said to have exchanged heated looks on-set and Eddie reportedly requested for the addition of intimate scenes for the drama, to which Cecilia agreed to. Their level of chemistry led to crew members wondering if the two were really “just acting”.

In the same year, Cecilia filmed movie Badges of Fury. Crew members revealed that she would contact Eddie during breaks and looked to be blissfully happy during their exchanges.

Jackie Chan blames himself for cameraman’s death

International superstar Jackie Chan blames himself for his cameraman’s death.

A boat carrying eight crew members capsized on Wednesday at around 3am while filming upcoming movie Skiptrace. Seven of them swam safely to shore but cameraman Chan Kwok-hung, who was the only one donning a life jacket, was found to be missing. He was discovered unconscious an hour later and rushed to the hospital but eventually passed away.

Those at the scene revealed that the waves were extremely strong. They added that the production crew would usually have a diver on standby in case of any accidents but Wednesday was an exception.

After the news of the unfortunate incident broke, a flurry of rumours that Jackie jumped into the waters to rescue the cameraman emerged. However, those present stated that he was making preparations on shore and rushed to the scene after finding out about the accident.

Jackie Chan took to his microblog to share his memories with his cameraman and blamed himself for being incompetent and unable to save his brother in time.

Chan Kwok-hung was a veteran cameraman in the Hong Kong film and television industry, and was involved in productions such as The White Storm and Fly Me to Polaris. He was twice nominated for the Hong Kong Film Awards and is said to have built up good relationships in the industry with his professionalism and dedication. He leaves behind his wife, son and daughter.

Director Jingle Ma, whom he learned the ropes from, expressed his disbelief at the news whereas Richie Jen, who has worked with the cameraman, expressed that the appropriate security measures should be put in place before work continues on the film.

Elvin Ng plays a “good guy” for the nth time

While actors like Rebecca Lim, Zoe Tay, Bryan Wong had fun punking co-stars and trading barbs in character on the set of upcoming Channel 8 drama, You Can Be An Angel Too, not everyone experienced the same level of gratification as they did. The “smurfy” trio, as Bryan would call themselves due to their blue uniforms, have a fun side to their characters in the show, unlike Elvin Ng’s prim and proper role as Fu Jia Zi.

“In the show, my character is the role model nurse. Everything you’d imagine or think a nurse to be, I am that,” he chuckled, adding that it was not easy for him to suppress his emotions or accept his character’s wishy-washy ways when it comes to love (co-star Sheila Sim plays his love interest, Liu You Le, in the show).

Likening their onscreen relationship to that of a tango dance where you’d “move forward one step” and then “take another step back,” he described their love story to be both gentle and coy. “One minute you want it, the other you don’t want it anymore… It was a bit hard for us [to portray such suppressed characters] because we are not like that in real life.”

In case you didn’t know, this is Elvin and Sheila’s second collaboration, they previously played a pair of bickering lovers in I’m In Charge – a far cry from what you’d see of them in Angel.

Keeping a lid on his emotions was so trying that he and Sheila both got irritated with their respective onscreen roles at one point in filming, said Elvin. It didn’t help that the role of Jia Zi was, to him, another of his “nice guy” roles again, following his turn as a devoted lover in World At Your Feet and an upright and law-abiding policeman in C.L.I.F. 3.

“Actually I may look serious, but people who know me well will know that I’m not. I’m more of a free spirit… I don’t like to be so regimented; it’s a bit tough for me. I’m not such a good guy, but I’m either a good guy, or like now, a very good nurse,” he lamented with a soft sigh.

The soon-to-be 34-year-old had a few more things to say about being confined in the goody two-shoes box and had more than once expressed a desire to “break out” of it.

“Can I be badder than just a good guy?” he pleaded, at one point during the interview.

“Nobody would think of me if they want a sissy or pervert role. I think it’s harder for me when it’s always just a good guy,” he said, “It’s hard to act a good guy with a lot of nuances and subtleties… when it’s more extreme, you have more free play and I look forward to that.”

Despite his gripes about playing Mr. Good Guy for the nth time, he acknowledges that the best he can do right now – to the best of his abilities – is to be a good actor in his box.

Self-proclaiming to be going through mid-life crisis now – a view we disagreed with because, c’mon, he looks barely 30, Elvin theorised in all seriousness: “I only want to live till 70! Since I’m turning 34 (on Dec 23) that pretty much puts me in a mid-life crisis now.”

“I think it is a transitional stage and I also think too much,” he drawled on, reflecting on his words as he said them, before concluding himself to be an “emotional wreck,” “sentimental,” or just as someone who “thinks too much and make life difficult for myself.” (We think it’s a combination of all three, Elvin)

When asked if he had any birthday wishes for himself this year, this was what he said: “It’s to think for myself more and to make life easier for myself…. I just wish to find balance, equilibrium and happiness within myself.”

You Can Be An Angel Too premieres on Ch8, Jan 5 (Mon) at 9pm.
