While promoting her upcoming film Run for Love in Beijing on Sunday, Taiwanese actress Michelle Chen, 32, recounted how the proposal in Paris organised by her boyfriend, Chinese actor Chen Xiao, 28, moved her to tears.
Chen Xiao had decorated a Seine cruise boat with fresh flowers and pink silk, and even had a white figurine of Xiao Long Nu, a character Michelle played, created with 3D printing.
The actress said she was moved by the gesture but didn’t feel like she was about to cry just yet. “And then I turned around and saw the figurine, and my eyes started tearing,” she said. “It was a great surprise, and I know he must have spent a lot of effort planning it.”
Michelle met Chen Xiao on the set of the 2014 Chinese drama series The Romance of the Condor Heroes, in which they played the lovers Xiao Long Nu and Yang Guo.
But when asked when she intended her wedding to be, Michelle turned to her Run for Love co-stars and asked, “Do people usually get married before or after Chinese New Year?” Chinese actress Liang Jing said she got married before the holiday, and Michelle replied, “Then there’s no way I can make it before Chinese New Year.”
