In a couple of weeks’ time, Julie Tan will be heading to New York to start a brand new chapter in her life – as an acting student and single lady. The actress, who got attached in January this year to a mystery man who is 11 years older than her, shared that she just broke up with her boyfriend of six months and wants to leave Singapore as soon as possible.
“This might be a blessing in disguise,” she said, during a phone interview, “It didn’t happen overnight – there were some signs long ago. And if you noticed, I actually deleted all his photographs from my Instagram account.”
The actress, who just wrapped filming for long-form production, Peace & Prosperity, quipped, “When I shared about this relationship in the beginning, I thought that we’d last till marriage, but [I later] realised that things just will not work out [between us] no matter how hard we tried.”
The 23-year-old (she will be turning 24 in September) admitted that the relationship failed partially because she “did not think of marriage yet” whereas her partner, who is relatively older, “wanted to settle down”. With no common goals binding the two of them together, the relationship started to crumble.
It’s better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all. While she lamented at the end of the short-lived romance, Julie said, “I’ve spent enough time being said and I want to feel happy again and start afresh… separations are unavoidable after all.”
