Stefanie Sun made her long-awaited comeback in Taiwan at the 53rd Golden Horse Awards but surprised many with her less-than-stellar performance.
Having
not performed in Taiwan for 19 months, her fans were excited to hear
her sing again. On her set-list were songs such as ‘Lu Bing Hua’ and
‘Zhe Ge Shi Jie’, which were performed with the Taipei Philharmonic
Youth and Children's Choir.
Some believed that it was a bad case
of nervousness that affected the songbird, who was unstable during her
performance and unable to hit the high notes. There were also some who
remarked that the children sang better than Stefanie, claiming that they
saved the performance.
Making a statement through her label,
Stefanie shared that she prepared for over two months for the show after
receiving an invitation to perform. From picking her set-list, watching
the children choir’s past performances and to arranging her songs with
the musical director, the 38-year-old put in a lot of effort into
putting on the best show.
However, she came down with the flu last
Monday but continued to give her best during the rehearsals.
Unfortunately, she was unable to recover before the performance, which
resulted in her lackluster singing.
After reading netizens’
comments, Stefanie is said to have blamed herself and told the staff
around her, “(It turned out like this even though) I worked hard to
prepare for this for so long. I’m really, sorry; I’m so sorry (and) I
feel like dying.”
