Wong Cho-lam steals the show at TVB 50th Anniversary Gala

Hong Kong comedian and host Wong Cho-lam hosted TVB’s annual gala show, alongside fellow Hong Kong actor and actresses Liza Wang, Carol Cheng and Natalis Chan, marking his return to the Hong Kong entertainment scene after working in the Mainland in recent years.

Cho-lam performed a short comedy skit with Johnson Lee and Louis Yuen, much to the delight of the audiences at the live show and viewers at home. The trio, known as The Three Deities in TVB, poked fun at various actors by doing tongue-in-cheek parodies of popular TVB dramas, which included drama Two Steps From Heaven, starring Bosco Wong, and Brother’s Keeper 2, starring Hugo Ng. They also teased Kevin Cheng for recent rumours of him cohabiting with girlfriend Grace Chan.

The short, lighthearted banter between the trio tickled the audience and brought the show to a climax. They even walked home with the Favourite Talent Performance award after receiving the most votes from the public.

The star-studded event show also saw a sexy belly dance number by actresses Alice Chan, Samantha Ko, Sammi Cheung and Yoyo Chen, piano ballad by Selena Li, hula hoop challenge by Katy Kung and Joey Mak, and many more.

However, the biggest winners of the night were Oscar Li, who won the grand prize of the lucky draw, cash prize of HK$1 million (approximately S$183,760) and Elvina Kong, who won the second prize worth HK$200,000 (approximately S$36,755).

Winner of grand prize for the previous year, Vincent Wong was accused of receiving the cash prize as a reward for the renewal of his contract with TVB, in response, Vincent said during an interview, “That is not true, if it is, please tell me how I can apply for that [perk].” He also explained further that the prize was awarded fairly, according to the public’s votes, and that he had already renew his contract long before the awards show last year.
