Ella Chen wants to soundproof her home

On a recent programme recording of TVBS Global Chinese Music, Taiwanese singer Ella Chen revealed that she has been trying for a baby since the beginning of the year. “We need to soundproof our home to prevent disturbing our neighbours,” she laughed.

Ever since Ella and her Malaysian husband Alvin Lai tied the knot in 2012, the couple often openly displayed their affections on social media.

When asked for tips on maintaining a healthy relationship, Ella expressed her gratitude to her husband for being very tolerant. The S.H.E member also advised everyone to reciprocate the efforts of their spouse, rather than be on the receiving end all the time.

“You don’t have to look hard for a good husband. The heavens will send the right person to you,” the songbird added.

Harrison Ford flies for first time since crash

Harrison Ford has returned to the pilot's seat for the first time since his plane crash in March.

The 72-year-old actor has spent weeks in recovery due to a large head laceration, broken pelvis and ankle, after crashing his vintage two-seater fighter plane into the Penmar Golf Course on 5 March, due to a mechanical failure.

However, the 'Indiana Jones' star has now been pictured for the first time dual piloting a helicopter at Santa Monica airport in Los Angeles.

Coming in to land, Harrison was seen smiling towards onlookers, clearly pleased to get his first flight out of the way.

Harrison's helicopter ride comes after he was also seen driving to Steven Speilberg's house earlier this week, looking "happy".

A source previously said: "Harrison seemed fine and drove himself to Steven Spielberg's house for a visit. After spending weeks in the hospital, he seemed happy to be back at home. He makes small errands and visits friends."

Following the flight crash, the 'Star Wars' actor's son Ben Ford took to Twitter to reassure fans at the time.

The 47-year-old chef wrote: "At the hospital. Dad is ok. Battered, but ok. He is every bit the man you would think he is. He is an incredibly strong man."

EXO to return without Tao

EXO has announced their comeback with a repackaged album, Love Me Right, which will be released on June 3.

One of the most jarring observations that has been made from their concept photo is that Tao is missing from it, further raising questions of his official status with the group. Meanwhile, Lay, who was also rumoured to be leaving the group, was spotted in the group shot, greatly alleviating fans’ concerns.

Love Me Right will include four new tracks in addition to the original songs that were found on their second studio album, EXODUS.

This release will be closely watched by many as their comeback will happen at the same time as BIGBANG’s. The senior group will be releasing their second of four single albums, which will include two songs. Their previous release, which included ‘Bae Bae’ and ‘Loser’, has topped charts and won numerous weekly awards on Korean music programmes.

Meanwhile, Tao has continued to draw criticism for regularly updating his social media platforms but not making an official stance on his status with EXO. He has also been spotted wearing the group’s Cartier bracelet in recent photos, raising hopes that all is not lost for his future with the band.

SWITCHAROO: Who would VIXX be for a day?

It’s been a good three years for Korean idol group VIXX. Debuting in 2012 after emerging as the six survivors from a reality programme, they have since worked hard to gain their current popularity and reputation as a well-mannered and hard working group.

While five members arrived in Singapore two days ahead of their first local concert, VIXX Live Fantasia Utopia in Singapore, and fielded questions from the media yesterday (May 28) in closed door interviews, they apologised that Ken was unable to make it due to his musical schedules in Korea and would only be able to fly in for the concert itself.

“It’s been three years that we’ve been receiving love from our fans and we’ve felt the amount of love showered on us increasing so we’ve been having many happy moments and we believe that we’ve spent our three years together well,” leader N mused at the start of our session.

After spending such a long time together, we wondered if there was any member they would like to switch roles with for a day, and they lived up to their reputations by ensuring that no one present was left out of the merry-go-round of role swapping.

Hyuk mused, “I’d want to be Hongbin for a day because he looks really manly and I think that’s really attractive” while N chuckled, “I’ve performed rap on the stage a number of times but I’ve seen Ravi’s rap performances and he looks really cool doing it so I’d want to try to do rap in Ravi’s style once too.”

When it came to Hongbin’s turn, he responded wryly, “Leo is a very quiet person so I’d like to try being him for a day just to see what it feels like to be him” and Leo, in turn, added in his soft voice, “I’d want to live as N for a day because his mood is never affected no matter how people bother him. I think that would be a very interesting and happy day for me.”

Last but not least, Ravi drew laughs from the other members when he declared, “I’d want to live as maknae (youngest member) Hyuk for a day because he’s really buff so he controls all the other older members. I’d like to know how it feels to be so physically strong.”

With VIXX having spent years in the industry, they have naturally grown close to their fellow idols. N, in particular, is notably close to Super Junior’s Ryeowook, who frequently updates his social media platforms with snaps with the group’s leader.

When asked about the other members’ feelings towards their close friendship, they pondered, “N is always taking such good care of us so it’s really great to see someone looking after N as a senior and it’s definitely not a source of jealousy for us.”

When probed on which seniors they would like to get close to, they paused to think before naming BIGBANG’s G-Dragon and actor Kim Soo Hyun as those they are keen on getting advice from or even working together with some day.

Given the name of their tour, what then is VIXX’s idea of a Fantasia Utopia? While Ravi philosophised that there isn’t such a thing as a perfect world and Hongbin mused that a place where everyone was healthy and happy would be the closest we could get to one, N chuckled, “A world where everyone loves VIXX sounds pretty perfect to me.”

VIXX Live Fantasia Utopia in Singapore will take place from 8pm today (May 29) at The MAX Pavilion@Singapore Expo. Tickets are available on SISTIC.

Pace Wu receives hate for boasting about her daughter

After giving birth to her daughter Hillary Ji with Hong Kong billionaire Ji Xiaobo last February, Taiwanese model and mother-of-one Pace Wu has frequently shared photos and interesting snippets of their daily life online.

Last week, Pace boasted that Hillary is “ahead of her peers” when she uploaded a photo collage of her daughter playing with a Caucasian boy.

She gloated in her caption, “My daughter is the complete opposite of me. She has a special liking for handsome blond boys and only likes to play with them. Having such a high standard of beauty at a young age, it totally feels like she is already a step ahead of everyone else!”

While Pace expressed her pride for her daughter’s preference for Caucasian boys, netizens and her friends were dismayed and have warned her against such inappropriate behaviour. On the other hand, her manager has yet to comment on her controversial statement.

This is not the first time Pace had come under the scrutiny of the public. The mother of one was previously criticised as “brainless” when she mimicked Caucasian celebrity mothers in her selfie, carrying a designer bag and holding a Starbucks cup in one hand while supporting her daughter with another. Pace even joked that she had “always wanted to take a selfie like that” and could finally do so as she has her own “fashion accessory (her daughter)” now.

Netizens were also worried when she carried Hillary with a single-strap baby carrier, known to have caused the death of an infant in England, while she was shopping. Hillary’s head had repeatedly slipped out of the carrier, but Pace only focused her attention on choosing clothes.

Earlier this year, Pace was also blamed for prioritising fashion over her daughter’s health, as she had made Hillary carry a designer bag to match her outfit but ignored the need to put on a mask for her when there was a flu outbreak in Hong Kong.

Gary Cao texted Francis Ng: We’ve moved on

Hong Kong actor-director Francis Ng, is letting bygones be bygones. At a fan meet in Guangzhou, Francis, 53, said that he is puzzled as to why so many netizens are still being dramatic about the feud between himself and singer Gary Cao.

Francis explained, “I don’t understand why people are so happy when situations are unresolved. A lot of people on the Internet are just looking for ways to vent their emotions.” To Francis, the case has already closed, but he is still unhappy about the responses that he has received online.

He continued, “Internet violence and cyberbullying are issues that we need to keep in mind. In situations like this, do you have to put all your negative thoughts about it online?”

Francis also mentioned that he received a WeChat message from singer Gary Cao, who stars on the same parenting show as Francis, and was angry that netizens speculated that his son caused Feynman’s injury. Francis admitted that he didn’t know how to reply to Gary’s text, which read: “I’m sure we all know it our hearts that we’ve moved on.”

Although Francis hasn’t replied the message to this point, “I don’t understand why you all need to pick on people and let another small kid be hurt again.”

Finally, he ended with one sentence: “Grown adults have enough maturity to avoid contributing to the negativity on the Internet.” As a result, netizens praised him for being “an intelligent man” who knows what he’s doing.

Feynman sustained a near-eye injury from falling down on the set of the second season of Hunan TV’s famous parenting reality show, Dad, Where Are You Going?, in New Zealand last September, but Francis and Hunan TV have since  reached a settlement . At the time, Francis was so angry that he threw down his microphone and walked out of an interview.

Kendrick Lamar wants to be a positive role model

Kendrick Lamar wants to be a positive role model.

The 27-year-old rapper, who received the Generational Icon Award in recognition of his philanthropic work from the California State Senate earlier this month, is determined to "do something worthier" with his life and set a good example for his fans.

Asked about the accolade, the 'King Kunta' hitmaker said: "It means everything to me. Because I know there's a lot of kids in my neighbourhood that are watching TV and saying 'You know what, I want to be a positive influence just like Kendrick Lamar, or whoever is out there doing something for the good.' "

Kendrick credits his parents for inspiring him to get involved with charities.

He told the 'Ellen DeGeneres Show': "I blame my parents. They put something in my heart to do something worthier than what I was raised around and taking all my influence, whether negative or positive, and doing something in the right way."

The rapper collaborated with Taylor Swift on her latest track, 'Bad Blood,' because they are both fans of each other's music.

He said: "She reached out. I've always been a fan of hers, and she was a fan of my music and she reached out and we got it done."

Lewis Hamilton smitten with Kendall Jenner

Lewis Hamilton wants to take Kendall Jenner on a "proper date."

The 30-year-old Formula One racing driver, who split from Nicole Scherzinger in February after seven years of dating, is reportedly smitten with the 19-year-old model.

A source close to the British star, who was spotted sunbathing and jet-skiing with the 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' star and her pals, including Gigi Hadid and Hailey Baldwin, on his yacht in Monaco earlier this week, claims he fell for her at the Cannes Film Festival and thinks she is "really cute and smart."

The insider told UsMagazine.com: "He's single and ready to date seriously again."

The brunette beauty is equally attracted to Lewis and enjoyed spending the day with him on his boat.

Another source said: "Kendall definitely has a major flirtation going on with Lewis and seems into him. They were very flirty all day long. Lewis was spraying water on Kendall with the back of his jet ski and she was loving the attention. They were both laughing and having a great time."

A friend believes their romance could just be a fling because neither of them are "looking for a relationship" but "it could develop into something more."

Gigi Leung’s pet dog pacifies her baby daughter

In a recent Weibo post, Hong Kong singer Gigi Leung uploaded a photo of her pet dog Luna licking her three-month-old daughter Sofia Crespo Leung.

The first-time mother shared that Luna came running to Sofia’s side when her loud sneeze frightened the baby girl to tears. “Luna licked the only part of Sofia’s body that we allow her to, which is her soles. She only went back to her den for a nap after Sofia stopped crying,” Gigi wrote.

Gigi’s fans then flocked to leave comments that complimented Luna’s sweet behaviour. “Luna is such a cute nanny. So heartwarming!” a netizen said.

Gigi tied the knot with her Spanish husband Sergio Crespo Gutes in 2011. The couple welcomed a new member in their family on Feb 28 this year. Since then, the singer has regularly posted photos of her daughter on social media.

Namie Amuro shows up as special guest at Jolin Tsai’s concert

Mandopop diva Jolin Tsai’s 2015 Play World Tour concert ended its four-night run at Taipei Arena with a big bang last night.

Showing up as a special guest (the only one over the four nights), the Queen of J-Pop Namie Amuro performed “I’m Not Yours” with Jolin on stage. The two songbirds previously collaborated on the track in Jolin’s Play album.

The Japanese songstress also drew loud screams when she greeted the audience with “Hi everyone” in Mandarin. Although Jolin and Namie did not interact much, their every move sent the crowd wild.

In addition, another highlight of the show was the segment where fans were picked to go on stage and request songs that they want to hear. “Well worth my ticket money!” a fan exclaimed.

Jolin’s boyfriend Vivian Dawson was also spotted among the audience last night. The model-actor, who was seen wearing a cap with the word “Play”, had reportedly rushed back to Taiwan to catch the show.

While speaking to the media, Jolin let on that Vivian gave her words of encouragement backstage before the concert started.

Jason Statham likes to 'get drunk'

Jason Statham likes to "get drunk" with Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

The 'Spy' star, who has been in a relationship with the 28-year-old actress for five years, says they enjoy letting their hair down at Los Angeles home when they aren't busy working.

Asked what they like to do together, the 47-year-old star actor said: "We get drunk and float around the swimming pool."

The British star plays a tough guy in his new film alongside Melissa McCarthy and admits he was initially "apprehensive" about starring in a comedy, but thinks it will be a hit.

He told Esquire magazine: "I've always been apprehensive about trying to do a f**king comedy, because they're either brilliant or they're f**king terrible. At least in making an action film, there's always going to be someone who wants to see a car chase. Even if a lot of the people don't like it, there will be a lot of people that do. But bad comedy is just garbage. But this works, and I give a lot of the credit--or all of the f**king credit--to Paul [Feig] and the writing."

Rosie previously admitted life with Jason is "tricky."

She said: "People go crazy for Jason. It can become a frenzy walking down the street with him.

"People relate to him and feel like he's the guy they grew up with, so it's tricky.

"You can't always do the right thing...People will say, 'What do you mean you don't do your own grocery shopping?' But I go to the supermarket and there are 20 photographers watching it. Doing normal stuff just isn't the same."

Nicole Richie puts home on the market

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden have put their Hollywood Hills home on the market.

The 33-year-old reality TV star and the 36-year-old rocker, who have daughter Harlow, eight, and son Sparrow, seven, have listed their four-bedroom, five-bathroom estate in Laurel Canyon for $3.49 million.

The lavish property, which the former 'Simple Life' star purchased in 2009 for $1.91 million, features an "extensively remodelled" living space, a pool-side guest house and a spacious kitchen, according to Variety.com.

The couple, who got married in 2010 after four years of dating, recently moved into a new $6.7 million home in Beverly Hills beside Joel's twin brother Benji Madden and wife Cameron Diaz.

Both couples are extremely close and Nicole previously claimed she was responsible for setting her brother-in-law up with Cameron just seven months before they tied the knot in January.

She said: "Yes. I'm going to take responsibility for everything! I approve of anything that's going to make Benji happy.

"I am a devoted sister-in-law. I'm happy for anyone who is happy, and I want everyone to be surrounded with love."

Joel sold his former bachelor pad in Glendale last June.

Sora Ma and Zheng Ge Ping act as a May-December couple

MediaCorp artistes Zheng Ge Ping and Sora Ma, who are going to be co-stars for the first time, were immediately met with one of their biggest challenges by acting as a May-December couple in Channel 8’s upcoming drama Hand in Hand.

On Thursday, Sora, Ge Ping and other leading actors like Bryan Wong, Jesseca Liu, Seraph Sun, Aloysius Pang and Ben Yeo attended the media visit at one of their regular filming sets and shared about their characters and their filming experience.

Sora, who will be playing one of her meatiest roles in her acting career so far, quipped about her character's complicated love triangle involving Bryan and Ge Ping.

The 31-year-old, who plays a lawyer named He Xin Ying in her thirties, gets acquainted with Bryan’s character Hong Mei Qiang and his family as she is placed in charge of the execution of the will of their just-deceased mother.

Though they eventually develop feelings for each other, she is already married to Ge Ping’s character Chen Hao Nan, a decision made unwillingly to escape the fate of marrying a man chosen by her mother.

As if the tussle between the two men is not already a challenge for Sora’s acting skills, the production team has increased the level of difficulty by inviting Hong Hui Fang to play her mother.

One could easily imagine the awkwardness between Sora, Ge Ping and Hui Fang on set when the on-screen couple have to act lovingly in front of Ge Ping’s real wife.

However, Sora shared in her interview with Toggle that she did not feel uneasy about the arrangement and even teased that she had “rightfully snatched Hui Fang’s husband” as Hui Fang agreed and pushed for their marriage in the show.

Zheng Ge Ping is not worried that Hong Hui Fang will be jealous

Though Ge Ping and Sora have a jarring age gap of 20 years in reality, the pair shared that they have no qualms when acting out intimate scenes in Hand in Hand.

Ge Ping revealed that Sora even made a personal request to the director to switch up the level of intimacy between the two in a kissing scene, changing the original plan of kissing Ge Ping’s face to locking lips.

Although the two are open with the boundaries of their intimate scenes on-screen, they remain respectful and draw clear boundaries once the “cut” signal is given on set.

Sora explained, “My friendship with Hui Fang is similar to a pair of sisters and we will also share about our personal lives with each other. As I know that Ge Ping is ‘my sister’s other half’, I am aware of the boundaries and the need to be respectful to him.”

Ge Ping added, “Hui Fang and I dote on her a lot as she is our junior in the industry. However, Sora and I still felt a little awkward initially (about acting as a couple) during our imaging session.”

However, he emphasised that he and Hui Fang are veterans in the industry and is not worried that she will be jealous, as they are able to make a distinction between work and reality.

Men with muscles do not attract Sora Ma?

On Thursday, Bryan, the lead of the show, turned up in a black fitted tank top and a pair of knee-length denim shorts, flaunting his biceps and visibly-toned body that he had been training in anticipation of a scene where he will have to “run naked” on the streets of Orchard Road.

When asked about how she felt acting alongside her co-stars Ge Ping and Bryan who both sport a good physique, Sora unexpectedly replied that their muscles do not interest her.

“I don’t have a special liking for them (muscles) and it is not really what I look for in my other half.”

However, Sora shared that she still feels blessed to be surrounded by hunks, and repeatedly sang praises of Bryan’s muscles.

Ge Ping, known for his passion for body-building and his chiselled abs, also complimented Bryan’s muscles, saying they look “very good and very firm”.

While it seemed like Bryan is close to stealing all the limelight from Ge Ping, the 50-year-old proved otherwise as he has already gained a head start by filming a wet shirt scene, where his abs could vaguely be seen through his white top after Sora had splashed a bowl of water on him.

There will also be a scene where he would come to Sora’s rescue in only his boxers, as he has to hastily kill a cockroach for his frightened girlfriend.

Song Joong Ki officially discharged from military

After serving 21 months of mandatory military service, Korean actor Song Joong Ki has returned to civilian life today (May 26).

Well-loved for his roles in Sungkyunkwan Scandal and Nice Guy, Joong Ki enlisted into the military in August 2013.

The 29-year-old was received by a large group of fans and media at the discharge ceremony this morning. Admitting that he feels awkward facing the cameras after a long while, Joong Ki said that he wishes to get home quickly to greet his parents as they had been worried about him during his time in the military.

When asked on the girl group that gave him strength during his service, the actor replied with a laugh: “My seniors warned me that this question would definitely be asked. I thought about it a lot but I honestly don’t know many girl groups. Personally, my best friend Lee Kwang Soo was the one who gave me the most strength.”

“I saw him so often on Running Man that he naturally became my greatest strength. Kwang Soo came to visit me once despite having a busy schedule,” he added.

According to earlier reports, Joong Ki has been confirmed to star in KBS’ upcoming drama Descendants of the Sun. Other cast members include Song Hye Kyo, Jin Goo and Kim Ji Won.

B.B. King's daughters' murder claim

B.B. King's daughters have claimed he was murdered.

The music legend - known to his fans as 'The King of the Blues' - passed away in his sleep in Las Vegas earlier this month but two of his daughters, Karen Williams and Patty King, suspect foul play.

Karen and Patty have accused the singer's business manager, LaVerne Toney, and his personal assistant, Myron Johnson, of poisoning him, documents submitted to The Associated Press by their lawyer Larissa Drohobyczer confirm.

Identical statements from the two women read: "I believe my father was poisoned and that he was administered foreign substances. I believe my father was murdered."

Brent Bryson, attorney for B.B. King's estate, called the allegations made "unfounded" and "extremely disrespectful".

He said: "I hope they have a factual basis that they can demonstrate for their defamatory and libellous allegations."

Earlier this week, it was confirmed that the 'Rock Me Baby' hitmaker will be laid to rest in his hometown of Mississippi.

Over the weekend, a public viewing of the open casket was held for fans and well-wishers.

A private funeral for the musician is expected to take place at the Bell Grove M.B. Church in Indianola, Mississippi on Saturday (30.05.15).

Pregnant Vivian Hsu’s fans correct her on safety belt use

Currently, Taiwanese singer-actress Vivian Hsu is over four months pregnant. Two days ago (May 23), the 40-year-old Vivian shared a photograph on Facebook of her sitting in a car with the seatbelt strapped above her tummy. On her way to a check-up, her complexion appeared very radiant.

When concerned netizens reminded her, “Placing the safety belt below the bump is better for Little V’s safety,” she posted a second photo shortly after to show that she had adjusted the position of her safety belt.

The mother-to-be captioned, “Thank you for the advice, all of you mothers out there. Look, this time the seat belt is underneath the bump. Hope this is right!”

Thus far, the older mother has suffered a fair bit during her pregnancy, as she was bedridden and on a hospital drip for nearly one month. She needed to receive injections on a daily basis to aid her blood circulation up until she was discharged last month on April 24.

However, Vivian has been facing it with a smile, keeping herself occupied by reading books, writing songs and watching shows. She has also been posting pictures of her breakfast on Facebook from time to time. As a result, fans have praised her for her “strong motherly love”.

Heartbreaker to TV Sweetheart: Carrie Wong

In the past year, the new TV darling that anyone on the local showbiz radar would have talked about is none other than Carrie Wong.

After coming in as runner-up on ChU’s Hey Gorgeous 2013, Carrie joined MediaCorp on a five-year contract in November that year.

As luck would have it, the aspiring actress scored her first role in Ch8 drama Against The Tide where she played alongside her long-time idols Christopher Lee and Rui En.

Opportunities continued knocking on Carrie’s door.

She first tasted fame with her role as “Tang Shui Mei” in The Journey: Tumultuous Times which earned her double nominations (Best Newcomer and Best Supporting Actress) at Star Awards 2015. Just one year after entering the industry, the up-and-coming starlet bagged her first Top 10 Most Popular Female Artiste trophy, an impressive feat that her peers could only dream of.

With increased exposure and popularity inevitably comes gossip and speculation, especially for the budding thespian who prefers to “be herself”. Admitting that she has been pampered by her parents all her life, Carrie let on that her straightforward personality has drawn both praise and criticism.

“It really is about personal judgement. People who accept your frankness will think you are being real, but those who don’t will label you as arrogant,” she said. “I don’t like to beat about the bush. When something is right or wrong, I will voice it out. That’s the kind of image I want to present.”

While some may say that the young lass is threading a fine line between confidence and cockiness, Carrie emphasised that she has never considered herself better than most people, but she is someone who would accomplish her goals when she sets them.

At the age of 21, Carrie seems to have it all: height (175 cm), looks, a loving family and a fast-rising showbiz career. But before her meteoric rise to stardom, the actress was once the last in class, the underage party animal and a romance silencer…

She always gets her way but she has learned that there are rules in the game

A self-professed spoilt kid, Carrie, the only child in her family, has always gotten things done her way. The culture shock that she experienced after joining showbiz, however, has taught the 21-year-old that there are unspoken rules to play by in this industry.

Shortly after becoming an artiste, Carrie was reminded by her manager to watch her attitude and speech, particularly towards her seniors. On her own, the young star has started to realise the importance of human relations in the industry and how her candidness can be offensive to some.

“An artiste’s success is not only accredited to his own hard work, but also the help and support from the team around him. I cannot be so self-centred,” she shared.

She broke down in tears over criticism

Speaking on her smooth-sailing career, Carrie pointed out that all the roles she had landed so far did not “simply drop from the sky” – she had to earn them via auditions.

“I am very lucky indeed. But I believe everyone is given the same chance. When an opportunity is given to you, you have to grab it. If you really want something, you need to think of ways to get it,” the actress declared.

For her first major project Against The Tide, Carrie spent days reading the script and interpreting the complex character. But it seemed that her efforts were not good enough.

“I heard from a friend that the director was not satisfied with my performance. In the first place, I didn’t have much confidence as I was just a newbie. I did all my homework and gave my very best, but the first feedback I received was so negative,” she cried.

The actress dealt with the blow by breaking down in MediaCorp's wardrobe department alone. When she finally picked herself up, she had to act like her eyes were swollen from a running nose before heading for an outdoor shoot. “I didn’t know what to do or who to talk to,” Carrie said, adding that the incident strengthened her determination to prove her critics wrong.

She deems getting recognised on the streets as a mark of achievement

The overwhelming response “Tang Shui Mei” received from viewers took Carrie by surprise. Even though she had a heavy role in Against The Tide, it was not until The Journey: Tumultuous Times that the actress started getting recognised on the streets.

“I could feel the difference, just from the aunties’ acknowledgement when I buy dinner at the hawker centre,” she laughed. “When nine out of ten people are able to call out my name, that would be the moment I know I’ve made it.”

… But she is keeping her feet on the ground

Despite having a remarkable start, Carrie reckons that she is still a long way from stardom. But she certainly is on the right path, having already bought her first car with her own paycheck. We can also expect to see more of the actress on TV as she has recently landed her first endorsement deal with Nestlé.

At the moment, the starlet is not quite ready to take on a leading role. “As the female lead, you not only have to act well, but also bear the weight of the ratings,” she thought aloud.

Giving herself five years to reach her goal, the ambitious girl has her eyes on the “Best Actress” trophy. While popularity awards are desirable, it is even more gratifying for an actress to be recognised for her craft, in Carrie’s opinion.

She couldn’t speak English until she entered primary school

Growing up in a Mandarin-speaking family, Carrie’s childhood reads mostly comprised of reknowned Chinese author Jin Yong’s novels. Before she entered primary school, the glib talker could barely articulate in English.

Contrary to her mature disposition today, Carrie used to be a problem student who was always ranked among the last in class. Back then, she honestly believed the only thing that mattered was getting a pass which would allow her to be promoted to the next grade.

“I don’t like to study but I didn’t waste my dad’s money! I managed to advance every year,” she said with a sheepish grin.

“[Before joining showbiz] I thought about becoming an air-stewardess after graduating from Poly because I didn’t have any plans. I have no regrets about not entering University. [A degree] wouldn’t be of much use to my career now anyway.”

She has never said “I love you” to her parents

In spite of her poor grades, Carrie’s doting parents have never laid a hand on her, which is one thing the actress is extremely grateful for.

Even when she scored 28 and 22 marks in Mathematics in her PSLE Preliminary examinations, her father brought her out for a nice meal at Jack’s Place as a form of encouragement. Carrie said with teary eyes: “When I think about it now, it still makes me want to cry. I was really insensible at the time.”

In order not to disappoint her dad, Carrie diligently attended tuition classes for three months. Her hard work paid off when she spotted an A* on her results slip. That was the first time she knew what a sense of accomplishment felt like.

Carrie’s parents have been very supportive of her career as an actress, even checking out reports online regularly. The family of three may be closely knit, but they are not the type who express their affections outwardly.

“Can you believe it? For the past 21 years, I have never said ‘I love you’ to Daddy and Mummy. I see my friends kissing their mums goodbye but I can’t do it. It’s too awkward. We show our love via actions,” she asserted.

In the near future, Carrie hopes to give bountiful red packets to her parents every year and ultimately, she aims to buy a house for them.

She retired from clubbing at 19

Calling herself a precocious kid, Carrie started clubbing at 16. Thanks to her friends working in the club, the young’un gained easy access to parties despite being underage.

For a few years, Carrie continued her partying life until she “grew tired” of it. Among those days, there was once when she was so drunk that she threw up in a taxi. She woke up the next morning with a memory blank (and horrible hangover); the only thing she could recall was paying for the cab fare with her debit card.

A stark contrast to her adolescent past, the otaku now spends her day being a couch potato at home when she’s not filming.

She chose career over her ex-boyfriend

Although her lifestyle hasn’t taken a drastic change since she became a celebrity, Carrie does get a little cautious if strangers approach her these days. During the partying days, however, her Facebook friends list was packed with people whose faces she couldn’t even recognise.

Despite her wide social circle, the actress has only been in one relationship. “I wouldn’t choose my boyfriend in a club. That’s too dangerous. Even after becoming friends, we need to get to know each other better. It depends on how I feel about the guy too,” Carrie let on.

Confessing that she was the one who called it quits on her ex-beau, Carrie said: “I let him down. Between work and love, I’d choose the former obviously. I am still young and I have found something that I want to give a shot at. I won’t give up.”

Carrie dated her Poly classmate for over a year before she was offered the MediaCorp contract. According to the actress, her ex-boyfriend was very good to her. Yet, his lack of confidence made him aversive to the idea of his other half becoming a public figure.

Problems between them started arising when she took part in ChU drama Scrum!. They were both busy preparing for exams and all the free time Carrie had was spent on filming, resulting in frequent arguments.

If there were already so many issues at the start of her career, their differences would only get worse in time, Carrie thought. It was then that she decided to call an end to their romance. “It is a pity. But he is doing well now and I am doing fine. So, I believe I made the right choice. We don’t talk as much now, but we are still friends,” the thespian affirmed.

She insists that Xu Bin is just a “good friend”

Unbeknownst to many, Carrie has known MediaCorp dukes Xu Bin and Shane Pow since her secondary school days. After working together on 118, Carrie got even closer to Xu Bin whom she has given her first onscreen kiss to in the drama.

“Xu Bin is a very genuine person, and very straightforward too. He doesn’t go round in circles when talking. I admire guys who are like that. He doesn’t give off the vibe that makes people wary of him,” she chimed.

Could something be brewing between the two? “It’s impossible between us! We are just good friends!” exclaimed Carrie.

She has no qualms about looking older than her actual age

Unlike most girls, Carrie is not bothered by comments about her mature looks. Instead of viewing it as a disadvantage, the actress thinks that her appearance allows her to portray a wide spectrum of roles.

“I can play characters of my actual age. With make-up and styling, I can also play characters that are much older. Of course it would be challenging too, as my state of mind is not at that level yet. Who knows if I’ll still look the same when I turn 31?” the optimistic lass remarked.

As for her taller-than-average height, Carrie clearly sees it as her strength, even though she was once harshly rejected by her secondary school crush because of her physique. “He said that he doesn’t like girls who are taller than him. I was so sad,” she said with a chuckle.

Nevertheless, it was her enviable height that gave her the opportunity to dabble in modelling when she was in school.

While she is a fan of flats, Carrie admitted that it would be tough for her to accept guys who are under 170cm. “I’d get affected by how the public look at us. I believe the other party would too. Many people may say that love is between two people and we should not care about what others think. But you wouldn’t understand how it feels until it happens to you. It’s easier said than done,” she reiterated.

Charli XCX: Katy Perry's gigs are mental

Charli XCX thinks Katy Perry's gigs are "mental".

The 22-year-old pop star, who recently opened for the 'Roar' hitmaker as part of her Prismatic World Tour, has revealed her admiration for Katy and, in particular, her over-the-top stage shows.

She told Teen Vogue magazine: "I felt comfortable and at home, which was really nice. I've never opened for a superpop-tastic artist before.

"It's amazing to see the props and the amount of production she had. She's in the air, then on a horse, and then she's dancing, and the whole thing is mental."

Meanwhile, Charli revealed recently she's a huge fan of Justin Bieber and would love to write for the Canadian singer.

She said: "I like Justin Bieber as a pop star. I think he's really, really great. I really love the song 'Baby'. I think it's awesome.

"I would love to. I've never written for a boy before. I don't even know what I would say, but who knows?"

What's more, Charli said she's determined to focus her energies on songwriting following a period of writer's block.

She admitted: "[In April] I had a bit of a breakdown because I was feeling like I couldn't be creative enough so I've booked a load of studio time and I'm gonna be writing for myself, for my new project, and some other artists too. I can't say who. But yeah, there's songwriting going on right now."

Miriam Yeung hospitalized for high fever

Torres Ting, young son of Hong Kong actress Miriam Yeung and her husband, ex-VRF member Real Ting, has fallen ill. Since Torres started having a high fever last week, 41-year-old Miriam had been taking care of her son day and night in addition to balancing her busy work life.

It was only a matter of time before the Cantopop singer revealed on her social media two days ago (May 20) that she, too, was down with a high fever and needed to stay overnight in the hospital for observation.

During her check-up, the doctor confirmed that her respiratory system was infected with bronchitis, and that she will not recover from her fever so soon.

Accompanying the post was a photograph of her hand attached to a drip which worried many of her fans.

Miriam wanted to give her fans a peace of mind and said with a hoarse voice in a phone interview, “I want to thank everyone for their care and concern. There’s no need to worry about me. I am currently trying to bring down my fever and I apologise for making everyone worried when I disappeared for a few days. I had actually been resting.”

Thirty-five-year-old Real, who has been taking care of her, explained in his phone interview, “The doctor told us that if she had been sent to the hospital any later, she could have developed pneumonia. She is much better now. Thank you all for your concern.”

Netizens left their heartfelt and concerned messages on Miriam’s social media, saying that they are “looking forward to [her] new album” and telling her to “rest well and recover soon”.

Francis Ng enraged by Hunan TV’s irresponsibility over son’s injury

Hong Kong actor Francis Ng threw down his microphone and walked out of an interview on Wednesday while he was promoting his new film in China.

The father-of one was overwhelmed with anger as he was recounting his son Feynman Ng’s mishap when they were in New Zealand to film an episode for the second season of China’s populat parenting programme Dad, Where Are You Going?, last year.

Feynman had suffered an open wound above his left eye after he knocked his forehead against a flight of stairs while playing with other children on the show. The children were also not under the supervision of the adults as they were having a meeting indoors.

The six-year-old was reportedly taken to a local hospital to treat his injury immediately and he was fit enough to continue with the shoot the next day.

Yet, Francis expressed his disappointment in his interview as he revealed that Feynman’s injury had left an irremovable scar that would likely lead to visual impairment.

The 53-year-old actor also criticised Hunan TV, the broadcaster behind the show, for shirking responsibility and “bullying a six-year-old child” as none of their representatives have approached him to discuss about the compensation.

He added that should the TV station continue with their inaction, he would consider taking legal action against them.

On the other hand, producers of the show have declined to comment on the issue when contacted by the media, claiming that they have not seen Francis’ interview as they are currently filming the show’s third season in the countryside in Shanxi Province and do not have good internal signal.

George Clooney moving to UK in summer

George Clooney will move into his new UK mansion at the "end of summer".

The 'Tomorrowland' star has revealed he and his wife, Amal, 37, will relocate to their expansive 1600s property in the picturesque village of Sonning, 40 miles outside of London, by September.

The 54-year-old actor can't wait to get settled in the £10 million estate with his human rights lawyer spouse, but added he won't be able to reside there permanently as he will still have to fly back and forth to Los Angeles to fulfil his acting commitments.

He told USA Today: "It will be done by the end of the summer and we'll be in it. And we'll sort of go back and forth between L.A."

George added his new pad is a world away from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood.

He explained: "It's very different. And the town has been so welcoming to us. There's a pub that we walk to, we walk through a graveyard to (get there). It's fantastic."

The hunky actor is clearly planning on spending a lot of time at his local after he confessed to stocking the premises with his own brand of Casamigos tequila upon discovering they didn't sell his favourite drink.

He said: "There's this great pub we go to. It's fantastic and we drink all kinds of pints and things. I bought them a few bottles of my tequila - I deliver now."

Rob Kardashian for DWTS return?

Rob Kardashian is considering returning to 'Dancing With The Stars' in order to lose weight.

The reality TV star and brother to Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian, has struggled to shed the pounds in the past and is now considering reappearing on the show, on which he came runner up in 2011, to get into shape.

A source claims producers of the dance competition have even offered Rob, 28, the chance to hang out with this year's winner Rumer Willis and contestant Charlotte McKinney.

They told Radar Online: "Rob's been given an open invitation to visit the show and producers even dangled the prospect of serious hang time with Rumer Willis and Charlotte McKinney.

"He's back on his diet and has already lost several pounds.

"Rob hasn't ruled it out. The happiest anyone ever saw this kid was when he was dancing every day."

Meanwhile, the sock designer is said to have become increasingly frustrated with his family in recent weeks and believes they used his personal "issue" to keep their 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians' ratings high.

Rob is said to have felt "betrayed" by his sisters when they openly discussed his problems on the E! Series, with his mother Kris Jenner.

An insider previously said: "Rob feels betrayed that his mom and sisters discussed his issue on the last episode of 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians'.

"He's angry that his personal challenges have been minimised to mere high ratings for the show."

Barbie Hsu boasts of her husband non-stop

Taiwanese actress-singer Barbie Hsu was recently in Shanghai shooting the second quarter of the latest season of the show Here Comes Kangxi as the replacement host for her sister, Dee Hsu.

Since her 2011 marriage with the CEO of South Beauty Restaurant Group Wang Xiaofei, Barbie has been praising her husband non-stop for his good genes and figure.

Barbie was very straightforward when approaching the topic of her husband’s sperm, saying, “Foot in 30 million yuan (about S$6.43 million) and then I will consider agreeing to let my husband donate his sperm.”

The emcee was shocked after hearing her answer and commented with a smile, “Since Xiaofei’s sperm are worth such a price, he must earn a lot from selling even one of them.” Barbie boasted in reply, “It’s because my husband’s DNA is so great!”

Not only does she boast about his good genes, but she also takes pride in her husband’s “well-built” body that “she always wants to lean on”.

Barbie gave birth to her daughter by caesarean section after three years of marriage in April last year, and although she has upgraded to a mother figure now, her spunky character from before her marriage still remains.

Chow Yun Fat keeps his 60th birthday celebration low key

Hong Kong actor Chow Yun Fat has always kept his personal life low key and has never been engaged in a large-scale birthday celebration. Even for the big 6-0, it still wasn’t any different.

On Monday (May 18), a netizen posted pictures on Weibo of Mrs. Chow giving him a kiss on the cheek and looking very sweet as they took photographs together.

The two appeared to be in a small restaurant, nothing too fancy for the man who likes to keep it on the down-low. The tables were simply covered with pink plastic and there were stacks of red plastic chairs around, like at any average restaurant. They were also using plastic plates to enjoy the cake.

On the cake she gave her husband, Mrs. Chow had dedicated a birthday message on a white chocolate topping: “My husband, happy birthday. May you always be blessed. Love, your wife.”

Many netizens sent their best wishes for the actor, saying comments like “I want to kiss you”, and some even called him a “role model for the world”.

Rob Kardashian is 'considering' rehab

Rob Kardashian is allegedly "considering" going to rehab.

The 28-year-old star, who has been battling depression for some time and has gained more than 100 pounds in the past two years, is reportedly eager to get his life back on track after the death of his friend Chinx last weekend.

A source close to the 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' star, who paid tribute to the rapper after he was killed in a drive by shooting in New York City, said: "Thankfully, this is something that Rob is considering now, which is huge. He doesn't want to die like Chinx did and we are all hoping that this will be the catalyst to force him into treatment.

"[He] has been trying really hard lately to get his life back together. Harder than he has in a very long time."

Rob, who lives with his older sister Khloé Kardashian, 30, in Los Angeles, has also turned to his family for support.

The insider told gossip website RadarOnline.com: "Everyone in his family has been begging him to go and get help for quite some time. They also realise that they have neglected Rob and it is something they are all really trying to change."

Chinx was a member of the group Coke Boys with French Montana, who has had an on-again, off-again relationship with Khloé since last year.

Ciara is taking a break from beau

Ciara and Russell Wilson are reportedly taking a break from their relationship.

The 'I Bet' hitmaker, who has two-year-old son Future Jr. with former fiancé Future, recently admitted she was smitten with the NFL quarterback, but "things have gone a little rocky."

A source close to the pair told E! News: "They haven't broken up yet. But things are not looking good."

The couple, who made their first appearance together at US President Barack Obama's Japanese state dinner at the White House in Washington DC last month, have been struggling to find time to see each other, but are still hoping to make their romance work.

The 29-year-old singer gushed about her Seattle Seahawks beau earlier this month, saying: "He's an awesome person...Everything in life is about timing."

The 'Goodies' hitmaker previously credited her son for helping her to get past her split from rapper Future late last year.

She said: "You live and you learn. My son has given me so much clarity. Now I'm like a full-on woman."

The former couple initially split in August amid rumours Future was having an affair with his stylist, Tyrina Lee, while on tour, but they moved back in together in September in a bid to repair their romance before splitting again in December.
