Actor to star alongside Jackie Chan for S$20,000 fee
Despite his father’s boastful words that he would hire Taiwan director Lee Ang and actress Brigitte Lin to film a movie with his son, Taiwanese actor Darren Wang, 24, has proven that he doesn’t need to rely on his rich dad after all.
The Our Times actor will be making his mainland Chinese film debut in the 2016 action–comedy Railroad Tigers, set in China in the early days of World War II and starring Jackie Chan. The movie is directed by Ding Sheng, the force behind Police Story 2013 and Saving Mr. Wu.
Darren’s performance in the Taiwanese movie Our Times reportedly caught Ding Sheng’s attention, and he offered Darren a role through Angie Chai’s management agency, to which Darren belongs. This took place before Darren announced he would no longer fulfill contractual obligations to Angie’s company after December 27.
Darren has reportedly flown to Shandong and other filming locations in China twice so far, and though he isn’t in a lead role, he’ll have the star power of Jackie Chan on his side. Considering he would be starring alongside the kungfu star, Darren asked only a modest fee of NT$500,000 (approximately S$20,000).
The actor is reportedly planning to terminate his contract with Angie's company and switch to the agency run by Frankie Chen, who directed him in Our Times.
