Baek Ji Young wants to work with SHINee’s Jonghyun

In less than three weeks’, the king and queen of Korean drama OST, K.Will and Baek Ji Young, will stage their first combined concert Korean Drama OST Night at The Star Theatre on Apr 22. The popular balladeers will also be bringing along their juniors GB9 and U Sung Eun for the show.

Best known for lending her voice to hit series such as Secret Garden, Rooftop Prince, IRIS, Good Doctor and Hyde, Jekyll, Me, Ji Young will personally select the track list for the gig – which will include songs that she has never performed in Korea.

As Korean Drama OST Night would mark Ji Young’s maiden show on the little red dot, the singer shared her thoughts via a recent email interview with Toggle. “I’m really excited and happy to perform in such a beautiful country. I can’t wait to see my Singapore fans and Singapore’s wonderful night view,” she said.

The 39-year-old also hinted at collaboration stages with the other performing artistes. As for her favourite song to serenade the crowd, Ji Young chose “My Ear's Candy” because “it gets fans excited the most”.

Chart toppers and sold-out concerts are not the only accolades under Ji Young’s belt. Thanks to her vocal prowess, the singer is highly sought after for collaborations. Previously worked with LEESSANG’s Gary and BEAST’s Junhyung, Ji Young will soon be featured on newcomer Song Yu Vin’s debut album.

“I read an interview of Shin Hyesung (Shinhwa) which mentioned that he wants to collaborate with me. I would like that opportunity to happen as well. I would also like to work with Jinyoung from B1A4 and Jonghyun from SHINee,” she let on.

Amongst the many OSTs that Ji Young has sung on, “Don’t Forget” (IRIS) remains the most memorable for the talented songstress. At the time, the songbird had to record the song under strenuous condition due to a cold. The recording could not be postponed as the drama’s premiere date was already set.

“It was really challenging throughout the entire session, but many people complimented that the song sounded more emotional [because of my condition]. I was very thankful,” added Ji Young.

If Ji Young could act in any of the dramas that have her name tagged to the OST, the singer unhesitantly chose Kim Tae Hee’s character in IRIS, primarily because of her famous candy kiss scene with Lee Byung Hun. The award-winning musician, however, insisted that she has “no potential” for acting.

When asked about her pet dogs that make regular appearances on her Instagram, Ji Young cheerily shared that her Pomeranian (named “Ppoya”) recently gave birth to baby “Buddy”. “They give me joy every single day. I’m very happy to live with the both of them. I cannot live without them,” she reiterated.
