Chinese actress Gao Yuanyuan and her husband, Taiwanese actor Mark Chao, had made a visit to the former’s hometown in Fengrun District of Tangshan, Hebei, last Sunday (Mar 5) to pay respect to her ancestors on Qingming Festival.
The couple also held a gathering for Yuanyuan’s relatives and friends and personally handed out red invitation cards that likened traditional wedding invites to the villagers.
Though they may be famous celebrities, Mark and Yuanyuan did not appear stuck up. Instead, they warmly welcomed their guests and played good hosts to the event, frequently offering toasts to the villagers, heartily chatting and even taking photos with them throughout the night. Mark was also described as a gentleman for he stayed by Yuanyuan’s side and looked after her the whole time.
Netizens sang praises of the couple for not ‘forgetting their roots’ after photos of their trip had leaked online. One of them also complimented Yuanyuan for her beauty, “If she already looks so pretty in a casual snapshot, she must really be a beauty!”
Others also jested, “Yuanyuan doesn’t seem to match the vibes of the village very much. Mark, on the other hand, seems like he was really born in the village!”
