Ladies’ Code’s Eunbi’s lifelong dream fulfilled after death

Korean girl group Ladies’ Code was involved in a horrific car accident yesterday which led to Eunbi’s death. Fellow member RiSe is still fighting for her life in the Intensive Care Unit after undergoing more than 11 hours of surgery which was halted due to low blood pressure stemming from excessive blood loss.

After news of the tragedy broke, Korean netizens banded together to fulfil Eunbi’s lifelong dream – for Ladies’ Code’s songs to reach the top of the charts. ‘I’m Fine Thank You’ off their second EP Code#02 Pretty Pretty reached the top of Korean charts such as MelOn, Bugs, Olleh and Genie. The song was released last September.

Eunbi’s funeral will be held at Korea University Anam Hospital in Seoul until tomorrow (Sep 5). Hallyu celebrities such as Super Junior were spotted at the wake earlier today.

RiSe, who has yet to regain consciousness after undergoing three major surgeries yesterday, is fighting for her life with her family members holding vigil by her side. Polaris Entertainment, which manages the group, has revealed that RiSe suffered injuries to her head and stomach.

Sojung, who was in critical condition but has since stabilised, will have to go through further surgery for her arm fracture.

Fellow celebrities have tweeted their support for the group, such as Super Junior’s Kyuhyun and Ryeowook, 2AM’s Jo Kwon and miss A’s Suzy. Kyuhyun mused, “It doesn’t feel like someone elses business.. (To the) people who are reading this, please pray with me. I hope to hear good news about the members who are still in midst of being treated.”

Super Junior was involved in a serious car accident in 2007 where doctors at the time said that Kyuhyun would need a miracle to pull through. Girl group Secret was also involved in a car accident in 2012 after their manager lost control of the vehicle.

Similarly, actor Jang Geun Seuk and JYJ’s Yoochun were victims of such accidents, but were fortunate enough to escape with their lives. This tragic accident has sparked questions on the safety of idols’ transport, with the scrutiny placed on Ladies’ Code’s van, a Hyundai Grand Starex.

The Grand Starex has a track record of being unsafe; with one of the major concerns being that the car uses two-point seatbelts instead of the standard three-point ones. Police investigations are still ongoing to uncover the reason behind the accident.

UPDATE: Ladies' Code's manager has reportedly been charged with involuntary manslaughter, and an inquiry has been commissioned to determine if improper upkeep and negligence caused the back wheel to fall off, ultimately leading to the accident.

After news of Eunbi's death was announced, imposter accounts claiming to be the star have surfaced, claiming that she is alive and well. Such accounts have been slammed by netizens for their insensitivity.
