Aaron Kwok spends night at hotel with girlfriend

Aaron Kwok surprised many with his announcement earlier this month that he is dating 27-year-old model Moka Fang. Unsurprisingly, the 50-year-old was bombarded with questions on his new relationship at subsequent press events, leading him to declare that he will no longer discuss his love life at public appearances.

The couple raised eyebrows for having a 23-year age gap between them but that has not deterred them from going on dates. On December 21, he was spotted in a casual outfit waiting for his new squeeze, linking arms and looking very much like a man in love once Moka emerged at their meeting place.

While dining at a restaurant, he was spotted asking Moka to check his teeth – presumably for any food stains – putting aside his image as an untouchable Heavenly King.

Heading to a café after dinner, Moka whipped out her cellphone to indulge in selfies, with Aaron gamely joining in on the fun. Posing for the cameras, they were seen with their lips puckered but drew the line at locking lips in public.

The rest of their date night was spent at the movies, eating supper and roaming the streets until 3 a.m., following which the couple entered a hotel together, where they spent the night. Moka left the hotel on her own the next morning while donning shades and hailed a cab to head back home.

Kim So Eun Spreads Warmth and Awareness for Stray Cats

Kim So Eun has made a warm donation to help stray cats.

Kim So Eun, who is known to be a cat lover, recently visited an animal rescue center in Ssangmun-dong to share some warmth with stray cats. After delivering food to the center, Kim So Eun sat down for an interview with @star1, where she said, "It always pained me to see street cats that don′t run away but approach or follow me. It makes me sad that they not only lack love but spend their days cold and lonely."

When asked what motivated her to participate in such meaningful work, Kim So Eun said, "I wanted to deliver Nestle Purina cat food, which cats love, and let people know about the ′Morning Knock Campaign.′ I hope everyone will do something meaningful through even a small action by caring just a little bit." The Morning Knock Campaign is an effort to prevent accidents involving stray cats, who take cover under the hoods of cars in the cold weather, and it is run by Nestle Purina with the Korean Organization for the Protection of Cats.

Adam Lambert is “flattered” by petition controversy

Although we were initially told that Adam Lambert was feeling a little under the weather since landing in Singapore on Monday, the guylined and perfectly coiffured rocker was in visibly high spirits at yesterday’s Celebrate 2016 press conference at Grand Park Orchard.

“What are you talking about? I feel great!” he exclaimed, when his supposed condition was brought up. “Well, flying 20 hours makes you go a little crazy, but I slept all day and now I feel good.”

Tonight (December 31), it will be Glamberts’ turn to feel good as the 33-year-old headlines the Celebrate 2016 countdown show at The Float @ Marina Bay, his first performance on local shores since his March 2013 concert.

However, just like the previous gig, the announcement of his arrival was not without controversy. Two years ago, a complaint was filed against Adam, who is openly gay, holding his showcase at the church-owned Star Performing Arts Centre. Then, last month, a petition signed by “Concerned Citizens, Concerned Parents, Concerned Individuals” was launched to oppose his involvement in the countdown show, citing his “lewd acts in the name of entertainment” and “his active promotion of a highly sexualised lifestyle and LGBT rights” as reason for their disapproval.

The online petition closed after five days and garnered over 20,000 signatures. On the other hand, its counter petition, titled “We want Adam Lambert performing in Countdown 2016”, racked up more than 24,000 signatures in three days.

Through it all, the 2009 American Idol runner-up remains unfazed by the naysayers. “I was actually flattered that people cared so much!” he claimed, before explaining, “Whenever I do a TV performance, I work very carefully with the producers and my team to figure out what’s appropriate for the programme.”

When asked if he’s “getting tired of creating controversy”, Adam clarified, “I don’t create controversy. In the past I may have done one or two things on purpose but now, my intention is not to provoke, but to reflect and be honest and real.”

Now that his show is clearly going on, here are some things that viewers can look forward to, as promised by the star himself: “We created it especially for Singapore; I thought very hard about which songs are going to speak to as many people as possible and that represent me. You have to tune in to find out more, but it’s going to be songs that people know and love.”

His set at tonight’s event is also the “opening ceremony” for his The Original High Tour, which is in support of his third album of the same name. Then, after one free day in town (see if you can spot him out and about on New Year’s Day!), he’ll move on to other parts of Asia and then to Europe. He’ll also continue with his collaboration tour with iconic British band Queen.

While Adam is revelling in his busyness and being able to experience his own “Original High” by singing on stages all over the world, he was candid about lacking a social life thanks to his schedule. “I figure that’ll come in the future, but at some point a vacation would be good, maybe somewhere tropical like Thailand or Fiji.”

In the meantime, he’ll be focusing on his New Year’s resolution for 2016. “I don’t remember what my 2015 resolution was, so maybe this year, it should be to remember my resolution! (laughs) My life is so rapid that I take it one day at a time, but if anything, my resolution would be to keep moving forward, keep learning and keep trying to create.”

Linda Chien’s father hints that she and Show Luo are more than friends

This isn’t quite the typical case of he says, she says – especially when the people involved are father and daughter.

Taiwanese entertainer Linda Chien (better known as Hu Die Jie Jie) and Show Luo have been embroiled in dating rumours for years but have repeatedly denied that they are more than friends.

Linda and her parents went to Japan for a holiday, where they were spotted by reporters out and about as a family. Linda denied being in a relationship when asked how long she has been in one, whereas her father butted in and declared, “700 days!” Linda hurriedly shut him down with a, “Don’t answer recklessly!”

Sensing blood in the water, they continued with, “Is Linda in a relationship with Show Luo?” to which he quipped, “He’s been to my house lots of times!” Clarifying, Linda quickly added, “Show has never been to my house. Dad, you’re going overboard with this and people will think that what you’re saying is real!”

In recent months, Show has been linked to Chinese blogger Grace Chow but some have also speculated that the two have gone their separate ways without formally admitting to their relationship. Without any word from Show himself, the rumours and speculation have never been confirmed nor denied, leading to much ambiguity on his relationship status.

More speculation over Joseph Chang’s marital status raised

Is he, or is he not? That is the question. Speculation over whether Taiwanese actor Joseph Chang has tied the knot in secret continues to swirl as a diamond sparkler was spotted on his girlfriend, Vicky’s ring finger.

He parted ways from Regina Wan earlier this year and was rumoued to have gotten together with his current squeeze, Vicky, less than three months after the breakup. The two have been spotted on many occasions and she has also met his mother after less than four months of dating.

Recent reports suggested that the two secretly registered their marriage – a rumour that was quickly denied by Joseph and his management. Constantly repeating that it “isn’t true” and “is impossible”, Joseph added that marriage is a serious subject that he will publicly announce when the time comes.

Celebrating his birthday on Dec 28, he posted a snap of him cosying up with Vicky; in return, she posted a photo of a table full of home-cooked food she specially prepared for his big day. What netizens took particular notice of, however, was the diamond sparkler they spotted on her ring finger.

Her caption, “Ready Go”, was also taken by some to mean that she is getting ready to move on to the next stage of her life – that of a good wife.

Jennifer Lawrence slams Hollywood

Jennifer Lawrence has blasted Hollywood for focusing on physical appearance.

The 'Hunger Games' star insists people should not be focused on the weight or size of an actor or actress but rather on their talent.

She said: "I hate all the focus on weight and size that you have in our business. I don't think an actress needs to be skinny to be attractive and it sends the wrong message to young women.

"It's important that, as actresses, we need to establish ourselves first and foremost for our talent and not for our physical appearance."

The 25-year-old actress also opened up about her criticisms of the gender pay gap in the movie industry, insisting that feels very "lucky" to have a job she loves and only made her comments out of "principle".

She told Grazia magazine: "I'm aware that movie stars earn too much money in relation to the rest of the world. But it's the principle that is important.

"I can't stand a lack of fairness. This has nothing to do with ingratitude - I love my job and I know how lucky I am to be able to live off my art."

Lynn Hung addresses Frankie Lam as ‘brother-in-law’

Hong Kong–based model Lynn Hung, 35, returned from Okinawa on Sunday night with her boyfriend, Kwok Ho Chung, younger brother of former TVB actress Kenix Kwok.

On meeting Kenix’s husband, actor Frankie Lam, in the airport parking lot, Lynn followed Ho Chung’s example and addressed him as “brother-in-law,” a hint that the model has become a part of the Kwok family.

The couple arrived in Hong Kong at about 7.45 p.m. and were met with media waiting for them. Lynn said the trip had been enjoyable, and she bought some souvenirs in Okinawa.

Reporters asked Ho Chung if he had given any gifts to Lynn, and he replied that he always did, but he wouldn’t elaborate on whether it was a wedding ring. Asked if his girlfriend deserved a score of 100, Ho Chung said, “She has always been 100.”

Lynn said she would be heading overseas for work so she won’t be able to count down to the new year with Ho Chung, and she would spend Chinese New Year in her hometown of Nanjing, China, with her family. She added Ho Chung had met her family many times before.

The model is best known for her seven-year relationship with Cantopop Heavenly King Aaron Kwok, which began in 2006, and she started dating Kenix’s brother late last year.

Tiffany Leong passes away from liver cancer at age 30

Malaysian actress Tiffany Leong lost her battle with liver cancer at the age of 30 today (December 28).

In July 2013, the former Mediacorp artiste was diagnosed with multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) syndrome, a hereditary disease where the endocrine glands are overactive or form a tumour (in her case, it caused early stage liver cancer), and underwent surgery to remove 60 percent of her liver in early October the same year. She also took a break from the industry in order to recuperate.

After the operation, Tiffany appeared to be on the road to recovery. However, according to Malaysian reports, she had to bow out of shooting drama Turning Point in January this year when she was found to have bacterial infection in her blood.

She was admitted to a hospital in Kuala Lumpur on Christmas Eve after suffering a relapse. According to a statement shared by her family on her Facebook page, Tiffany passed away peacefully this afternoon, and they urged the public to give them time and space to sort out her funeral arrangements.

Several artistes have taken to their social media pages to pay tribute to the late star. Xiang Yun said she would always remember her “sweet smile” and "kind heart"; Zen Chong wrote, “No matter where you are, you will still be the Tiffany that I love”; Apple Hong shared a picture of a group outing and expressed, “I did not expect that meeting to be our last”; and Yao Wenlong wished her happiness and health in heaven.

Prior to her diagnosis, Tiffany starred in a number of Channel 8 productions including Priceless Wonder, Code of Honour and The Quarters. Her last appearance was in Mind Game. She was also nominated for the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes at the 2011 Star Awards.

Kourtney Kardashian isn't a 'dating person'

Kourtney Kardashian is "not a dating person".

The 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians' star - who split from partner Scott Disick a few months ago after nearly a decade together - insists she's not ready for a new relationship.

In a frank chat with her mother Kris Jenner on their E! reality show, the matriarch said: "I'm just telling you to keep and open mind. It would be kind of cool if you ever went on a date."

To which she swiftly replied: "I'm not a dating person. I did the dating thing before Scott for like a minute and it was so not for me.

"I just got out of a nine-year relationship. I think the last thing I probably need is anybody in my life."

Meanwhile, the 36-year-old television personality - who has sons Mason, six, and Reign, 12 months, and daughter Penelope, three with the 32-year-old model - previously claimed Scott has "two personalities".

She said: "Yeah but I feel like that's kind of what happens every time. Like he would be home and be really good for like three months and then go out of town and be like worse than he was before.

"He has like two personalities that's the hard thing. It's like he wants both, he's like 'I just want my family' or whatever. And I'm just like 'Well what are you doing to try to change your life?' "There's just like a lot that would have to happen for him to get on a good path."

Myolie Wu to wed today

Hong Kong actress Myolie Wu, 36, will marry her fiance, Hong Kong businessman Philip Lee, 42, today, gaining the new title of Mrs Lee.

The actress posted a selfie on her Instagram account this morning. “I’m all set!” she wrote next to a photo of her in a beaded cheongsam.

Philip led an entourage of luxury vehicles to Myolie’s home at 7.30 a.m. today; he was in the Rolls Royce. The couple reportedly headed to a private club in Sheung Shui, New Territories, at noon to sign their marriage license, and the formal banquet will be held tonight at The Ritz-Carlton hotel.

Philip hails from Sha Tau Kok, a village near the mainland Chinese border, and is the eldest grandson of the family, so Myolie is expected to pay her respects to his ancestors and set off firecrackers to pray for a large family.

But concerned that her in-laws would be uncomfortable with the undue media attention, Myolie will postpone visiting Sha Tau Kok until after the wedding.

Kit Chan: Don’t offer me the part of a singer

Movies, television dramas, stage productions — homegrown singer Kit Chan has done them all; her two latest projects are local movies Lovers Discourse (2010) and Miss J Contemplates Her Choice (2014). But when accused of being unreasonably fussy about the acting roles she takes on, Kit insists she isn’t.

“Lots of people asked Jason Lai (who directed Miss J Contemplates Her Choice) how he got me on board,” the 43-year-old said. “He said, ‘It’s easy, you just hand her a screenplay and she’ll do it.’”

But there’s one condition most people are unaware of: Don’t offer Kit the part of a singer. “I often receive movie offers, but some screenplays are quite myopic. What I dislike most is being given the role of a singer — just don’t!” she said.

New album
Being open to appearing in movies doesn’t mean the award-winning vocalist will be neglecting her day job, though. Kit has recently signed with China’s Taihe Music Group for two years in a deal that includes one studio album, a single and live concerts.

In fact, she’s already started work on her new record. “I’ve selected four songs now, so that’s almost half (the album), not bad huh?” she said.

Studio recording will kick off early next year, but due to the dry climate in China, Kit will shuttle between Singapore and Taiwan for that segment.

“I can’t tell you what the style of the new album will be,” she said. “But it will definitely be very ‘me’ and diverse.”

Signing with Taihe Music Group won’t change much about how Kit works. “I’ll still be doing music, but what’s new is that more people will get to know my material, and that’s something Banshee Empire can’t achieve,” she said, referring to the record label she founded in 2010.

Ambitions
Kit debuted in the mainland Chinese entertainment arena in the third season of the reality competition I Am a Singer last year, but she was unceremoniously eliminated in the first round because she pulled the fewest votes (plus she got called “completely off-key” by one of the judges — ouch.)

But appearing on the nationally televised contest paid off, and Kit came out on top in the end, performing the theme songs for the 2015 movies Monkey King: Hero is Back, Fall in Love Like a Star, and Return of the Cuckoo. ‘Finally,’ the opening theme of the year-end mega-production, The Dream Makers 2, also features Kit’s iconic vocals, and the songstress held her Kit Chan Spellbound Concert in Singapore and China this year.

Kit underwent surgery on her vocal cords last July, which, thankfully, she recovered from far better than Dame Julie Andrews did. So the singer set herself a challenge for next year: to be smarter about how she chooses projects and plans her work schedule. “After I developed problems with my vocal cords, it taught me that I had to learn to let go so I can have enough time to rest,” she said.

But the close call gave Kit a newfound appreciation of her talent. “Many people got to know me through my singing voice, and it’s a huge part of my identity that I nearly lost,” she explained. “Now with every note, I treasure and enjoy the feeling of being able to sing.”

Suki Waterhouse's acting role models

Suki Waterhouse sees Shailene Woodley and Lily James as her "role models."

The 23-year-old model starred alongside the 24-year-old actress and the blonde beauty, 26, in 'Insurgent' and the upcoming 'Pride and Prejudice', respectively, and got a real "education" by watching them at work.

She explained: "Watching them act is an education. They're role models to me."

The blonde beauty decided to turn her back on her modelling career in order to make a name for herself in Hollywood and, although it's been exciting journey, she has admitted it's been very tough.

She said: "It's been exciting being thrown into something completely unknown. One of those life-changing experiences; it was daunting to work with these incredible actors but that's how you learn."

Her big break came after she landed the lead role in the dystopian love story 'The Bad Batch' alongside Jim Carrey and Keanu Reeves and she was determined to be in the film.

She added in an interview with Glamour magazine: "It's exhilarating. When I auditioned for 'Bad Batch' and met the director, Ana Lily Amirpour, ' I thought, 'I have to work with her.' "

IU in Talks to Star in ′Moon Lovers′

IU is attracting attention as a strong candidate for the female lead role in upcoming drama Moon Lovers.

A media outlet quoted a source from the drama bureau, reporting on December 28 that Kim Sung Kyun, Hong Jong Hyun, Kang Ha Neul and Nam Joo Hyuk have been cast, while Lee Joon Gi and Beakhyun are currently negotiating their appearances.Reports that IU has been cast as the female lead in Moon Lovers surfaced as well, however, IU′s side stated through various media outlets, "It′s true that she received a casting offer. She′s currently reviewing the role and nothing has been confirmed yet."

Moon Lovers is a time slip drama centered on a modern woman who travels back in time. Based on the original 35-episode Chinese drama Scarlet Heart, which was a hit in 2011, Moon Lovers will be set in Korea among other changes.

As there are many kings in the drama, there is a need for many male actors, and the fact that viewers will be able to see numerous stars together in one drama is heightening anticipation.

Meanwhile, Moon Lovers will be directed by Kim Kyu Tae PD, whose works include SBS′ It′s Okay, That′s Love and That Winter, the Wind Blows. The script will be written by Jo Yoon Jeong, who wrote Cinderella Man, Save the Last Dance for Me and Let′s Go to the Beach.

All’s well between Tony Sun and Angel Han

Taiwanese stars Angel Han and Tony Sun have worked out their differences two months after they announced the end of their four-year marriage.

While the two have never addressed the real reason behind their sudden split, much speculation has been swirling around the pair, with some saying that the split was due to financial troubles, while others declared that it was Angel who initiated the divorce.

In the midst of the crossfire, both parties have reportedly reconciled. Sun De Rong, the former manager of boyband 5566, shared “I hope everyone can just get along and be good friends. For people who were once in love, leaving a way out for each other and being friends should be possible, isn’t it?”

De Rong and Angel’s manager’s meeting is said to have gone well and they have gone to the extent of discussing possible future collaborations, including managing an idol group together. Angel also confirmed that she will not reject the possibility of working with Tony on a drama together.

Through her manager, Angel also expressed her support for De Rong’s wishes and stressed that everyone, including Tony, can still be friends after all that has happened “because we were once in love (and) treasured each other”.

Angel’s manager shared, “Angel doesn’t want to see Tony at a dead end either; I believe that Sanlih E-Television (a Taiwanese television company) will still look him up when necessary as well.”

Furbulous Celebrity Meow series: Priscelia Chan and her furry bundle of joy

Christmas holds special significance for different groups of people: some see it as a time for praise and worship, while others see it as a time for celebrations with family and friends (for the kids it’s all about the presents under the tree #truestory). For celebrity couple Priscelia Chan and Alan Tern, it’s a special time of the year for them to celebrate their adopted pet cat Twinkle’s presence in their lives.

To Priscelia, Twinkle is like the brightest star shining atop a Christmas tree who fuels their lives with laughter and warmth.

In our final installment of the Furbulous Celebrity Meow series (read past stories on Lin Peifen, Nat Ho and Felicia Chin), we speak to Priscelia to find out about her story – one she calls a “pure coincidence”, with her irreplaceable twinkling joy.

The actress has always been drawn to cats for unknown reasons (Priscelia thinks it’s because she grew up seeing a cat painting at her grandfather’s house), but never had the urge to commit to becoming a pet owner until one fine day, two years ago, when she received a call about an abandoned cat from a vet friend.

“My friend told me she kept thinking of me when she was tending to this cat and said the cat is quite gentle and special - and she’s not too fierce too,” Priscelia recalled, “She sent me a picture of the cat, I took a look at it and immediately called a cab and rushed down to her clinic.”

While this may sound religious, Priscelia shared that she felt a strong calling to adopt Twinkle and bring her home - which she eventually did - after spending some time with it at the clinic.

Alan had some apprehensions about adopting Twinkle because he knows pets will die and that Priscelia would grow attached to the cat, “He asked me: ‘You sure about this?’ I don’t know why but I just found the courage to go with the flow,” she quipped.

“I made a prayer and felt this sense of peace and joy and told my friend I’d adopt her. We adopted her two weeks before Christmas, which is why I said Twinkle is a present from God.”

True enough, Twinkle brought joy into the couple’s lives. Although they don’t have a child of their own yet, Priscelia said having a pet at home is the same for couples who have children as it gives them “a common topic to talk about” which is “healthy” for a relationship as well.

For them, Twinkle is like the baby of the family whom they spoil with cat treats, new DIY or store-bought toys and decorative collars. While Alan tends to put together interesting makeshift toys made out of recycled boxes or t-shirts, Priscelia shared that she has picked up a few cute collar accessories for their cat – including a patriotic #SG50 collar to celebrate the nation’s birthday this year, which Twinkle wore during the Golden Jubilee celebrations.

Once, the actress ordered a slightly expensive collar fashioned out of pearls for Twinkle to wear during Chinese New Year, but Alan deemed it too heavy for the cat. The “protective daddy” observed that it obstructed Twinkle’s movement as she did not jump as much as she did before.

“The moment we took off the collar, Twinkle started to jump around. What he said was really true and I was amazed by his keen observation,” Priscelia said.

That’s not all. We learned of Alan’s paternal protectiveness over Twinkle as Priscelia recounted how her husband once got angry with her for bringing home a bunch of lilies intended for a flower arrangement, “I was told it’s not the kind that are poisonous to cats but Alan said to me: ‘It’s still lilies’.”

After a “minute of silence”, Alan eventually decided they’d place the arrangement in the guestroom because Twinkle is not allowed in it. With a twinge of regret in her voice, Priscelia explained, “I felt guilty for choosing them but somehow at that point in time, I was so excited and felt I needed to match the flowers in my arrangement. Now I make sure I choose flowers that are not poisonous to her.”

Another thing the actress has wised up about since becoming a cat owner? Knowing her own limits and when enough is enough – a mentality that applies to her both as a person and an actress. “You learn that you cannot please everyone… it’s like a cat trait,” said Priscelia.

Who’s the bigger diva at home – Priscelia or Twinkle? And why does Twinkle meow non-stop whenever Alan sings at home? Read on to find out more!

Toggle: So between you and Twinkle, who’s the bigger diva at home?
Priscelia: She lah! Even my stylist said that my cat is more ‘diao’ (cool) than me. But she’s not super diva, she’s more manja (affectionate). When I wake up in the morning she’d follow me around the house and meow non-stop until I touch her. That’s her way of making sure I greet her in the morning.

Both you and Twinkle have such manja personalities, how similar are the both of you in that aspect?
She’s more act cute than me (chuckles). My manja (to Alan) is sometimes cute too, but hers is cuter. When I had her for the first year, she’d climb on us and sleep on our chests. It’s unpredictable so that’s one of the exciting things about adopting a pet – when she suddenly shows you affection it can feel so sweet. But I’m not sure if it was a phase as she has outgrew it (sleeping on their chests) and nowadays she rarely does it.

What is Twinkle’s favourite way of showing her affection towards humans?
Through her eyes or when she purrs. I like to hold her close to my heart, sayang her and look into her eyes. I hope that she can feel my heartbeat, hear my heartbeat and know that I love her a lot. You know when cats blink it’s their way of saying they love you too? I also like it when I’m sitting on the sofa and she’d put a paw on my leg – it’s very subtle and quiet, like she knows I’m in my space and she’s in her own space too. She’d knead Alan’s tummy too and that’s her way of showing affection to him. She’d run and jump on him at night when he comes home and knead on his tummy. Sometimes she’d do it to my tummy or leg too.

What is something new you learned about yourself and cats since becoming a pet owner?
I’m less anal about cleanliness and hygiene now (laughs). I used to be super anal and Alan is surprised at my change too because I can be quite an OCD freak. For Twinkle, we realised that she’d meow non-stop whenever Alan sings. He’d usually sing with the sound system whenever he is exercising. Even though it’s a bit out of tune, I think it’s quite cute so I don’t really care (chuckles). But Twinkle would meow non-stop, so when Jackson Galaxy (a cat expert) came to Singapore, we asked him about it through a reporter and learned that cats are very sensitive to pitch and sound. So if someone doesn’t sing well, to them it's noise (laughs).

When you’re feeling down, do you think Twinkle can sense it? How does she comfort you?
There was once I had a friend who passed away and I was crying when I heard the news. I remember Twinkle was sitting on the ledge near the window, enjoying the sun. I think she was sensitive to the tone in my voice, looked around and kept staring at me. She didn’t come down instantly, but when she did she just stayed near me. Although she didn’t do anything much, I felt that she knows how I felt.

She’s not a lap cat and when I am preparing for work, especially when I have to prepare for a new show with tons of scripts, she can sense that I’m in my own world and would just sit beside me to accompany me. And when she is bored, she’d sit on my script to get some attention from me.

Since she was adopted around Christmas, does Twinkle exhibit happier moods during the year-end festive season?
Actually she loves it when both Alan and I are at home –we can also feel it too. Before I took on this project, Revenge Queen, we’d go for breakfast during the weekends and come back to change her litter box together. We’d sit on the kitchen floor and sayang and groom her. And we felt this energy – like a trinity of love… it felt comfortable and comforting.

Would you say that the decision to sterilise one’s pet is one of the best gifts that owners can give their pets?
I would say that is what a responsible pet owner would do. And one thing I need to clarify about is Twinkle has given birth to kittens before – she’s suspected to be made for breeding by a particular place somewhere. This piece of information was given by the cat lady who found her because Twinkle is apparently quite pretty and exotic (she’s deduced to be a Siamese Lilac Pointe) so that could be part of the reason why she was abandoned. In that sense, it’s not very responsible of people to throw her aside because if there’s an oversupply and overpopulation and you can’t cater to them, some of these cats will end up being culled.

If Twinkle could make one Christmas wish for the good of her own kind, what do you think it will be?
No more abuse or mutilation of cats and that cats have the right to live the way they deserve to live – to be carefree and roam around anywhere they want to and to have the love of their caregivers – be it indoor or community cats. Like any other life, they deserve the right to live the life they have – that’s the most basic respect we can have for them.

Scooter Braun: Comedy roast was a turning point in Justin Bieber's career

Justin Bieber's comedy roast marked a turning point in his career, according to Scooter Braun.

The 21-year-old singer's reputation took a hit following a series of damaging stories shortly after he became a worldwide star, and his talent manager has revealed how he orchestrated a plan to transform the public's perception of the 'Love Yourself' hitmaker.

Recalling the circumstances behind Justin's Comedy Central roast, Scooter said: "I had a meeting in the office, and I said: 'O.K., guys, these are some of my ideas. What person do you think Justin should do the intense sit-down interview with? Is it Katie Couric? Do we call Oprah and see if we can do a special?'

"And Ava [Coleman] - 21 years old, at the time an intern - she said: 'I just think my generation doesn't care about that. I think if you want people to see that he's for real, he should do a Comedy Central roast.'

"And I went: 'That is genius. Get it done.' Twenty-four hours later, I was on the phone with Comedy Central."

The roast - which was staged earlier this year - was hosted by comedian Kevin Hart and showcased Justin's self-deprecating side.

Scooter also admitted Justin has gone through some unpleasant experiences over the last few years and that in time, he'll reveal the depths he reached.

He told the New York Times newspaper: "The outsiders don't really know what was happening. It was far worse than people realise. And when he is ready, he will tell what he was going through.

"But it's a hard thing to watch someone you care and genuinely love go through that. I'm really, really happy that's over."

Derrick Hoh samples ‘Lemon Tree’ for his nieces

For Singaporean Taiwan-based singer Derrick Hoh so loved his two nieces, that he took inspiration from Tarcy Su’s hit 1995 cover of ‘Lemon Tree’ and put his own spin on it.

“Nowadays many children can’t speak Mandarin,” the 30-year-old singer said, and explained his two nieces, aged 7 and 4, are the same.

“But the first Mandarin pop songs they learned were Tarcy Su’s, including ‘Lemon Tree,’ ‘Duck’ and ‘Fool,’ which they find catchy. So I set out to record a song the girls could sing along to.”

Derrick’s version of ‘Lemon Tree’ shot to the top of the singles charts in just five hours after it was launched on iTunes on October 14. And the track was a hit with his nieces too, he said - they picked up the melody and the dance even before the song was officially released.

The quirky moves seen in the single’s music video paid homage to the classic Great Singapore Workout, a rite of passage for children growing up in the 90s. “When I was young we were all forced to do the routine, so it left a deep impression,” Derrick said.

And the doting uncle made sure his nieces found the dance steps acceptable. “I’d demonstrate it to the girls, and if they couldn’t keep up, the move was dropped,” he said.

Change
The album Lemon Tree comes five years after Derrick’s sophomore release, Change, and the singer has moved away from a brooding image to try out a sunnier, ‘lemonier’ style that matches the feel of the title track.

“Actually I’m rather cheeky in real life, and I like to crack jokes and make people happy,” he said. “So I think this new image is closer to who I am.”

Derrick explained that every track on Lemon Tree was related to his life, including ‘Clear Day,’ which he penned when he was going through a rough patch after the passing of a relative.

“I stopped seeing a purpose in what I was doing and I didn’t understand what I was so busy with,” he said. “It was as if I had lost my way, and I shut myself in my room for many days.”

But then he snapped out of it, picked up his guitar, and composed ‘Clear Day’ in under five minutes, setting a personal songwriting record.

Turning 3-0
The newly minted tricenarian celebrated his birthday on September 17, and since he debuted on Channel U’s Project Superstar in 2005 (he came in third) he seemed to have matured in the public eye. “I’m happy that I’ve reached this milestone and I think I’ve grown a lot,” Derrick said.

But his love life doesn’t appear to have yielded the same results.

“I’ve always hoped I may find someone who’ll stand by me and support my career in music,” he said. “And over the years I have been going on dates and getting to know people, but I haven’t quite found the right person.”

Derrick added that he was often hopping from one country to another due to his work, so to find a girl who could accommodate that made the quest even harder.

But given his wide network in the entertainment business, wouldn’t a suitable candidate be among his acquaintances?

I’ve known them for so long that if anything had been meant to happen, it should have happened long ago, he said. “But I’d rather they introduce potential partners to me!” he said.

Lemon Tree is available at all major stores and on iTunes.

David Beckham's documentary idea 'was laughed at by TV bosses'

David Beckham was laughed at by TV bosses when he suggested making a documentary.

The 40-year-old retired soccer star recently filmed a programme for the BBC in which he played seven games on seven continents on behalf of the children's charity Unicef, but Beckham has revealed how hard it was to get the concept off the ground.

Of the moment he pitched the idea of playing soccer in the Antarctic, he told the BBC: "People sat down with us and actually laughed at the things we wanted to achieve. And to be honest, rightly so!"

David - whose journey also saw him travel to places such as Nepal and Buenos Aires, Argentina - said the TV show allowed him to combine his passions of travel and soccer.

He shared: "I love to dive in to different cultures and see different things and see places I've never been to before.

"The first three places [we visited] are Unicef centres that we help support and fund. That was personally important to me. The other places, it was about showcasing how the power of the game affects families in life."

David has been a Unicef UK ambassador since 2005, and earlier this year, he launched 7: The David Beckham Unicef Fund, which helps to protect children in danger around the world.

Pace Wu shares photos of son Hans

Taiwanese model and actress Pace Wu, 37, has shared photos of her newborn son, Hans, to mark his first month.

She named the infant after her late golden retriever, which died two years ago. “I hope my son will grow up to become my best friend too,” she said.

Hans the goldie holds special significance to Pace, who has another child, Hilary, with her partner, Hong Kong businessman Ji Xiaobo.

The couple started dating in 2012 but broke up after a year. But when Hans the goldie was diagnosed with lymphoma, Xiaobo checked in on him every day, and the couple later reunited.

Now in confinement in Hong Kong, Pace said, “It was exhausting when I used to be a full-time artiste,” she said. “But now that I’m a stay-at-home mother I have more free time, so I’ve started planning my daughter’s studies. I’ve even made her flash cards.”

Asked whether her beau has given her any reward for giving birth to a boy, she said, “No, but after I’m done with confinement we’ll go take a family portrait together.”

The actress reiterated she wanted to have five kids in total. “I believe with proper care I can accomplish this feat,” she said.

Halt in broadcast for Ethan Ruan’s new reality program

The new reality variety program Taiwanese actor Ethan Ruan appears on, China’s version of South Korea’s Infinite Challenge, will halt broadcast for two weeks, returning on January 3.

China’s Infinite Challenge faced a similar fate when its debut on CCTV was pushed back by two weeks to December 6.

In an official explanation published on the programme’s Weibo account, the show is postponing airing the December 20 and 27 episodes due to “adjustments to the presentation of the television network's programmes.”

For past episodes, Ethan, 33, was assigned to sell soap by the roadside, work among a crew of flight attendants and dig for lotus roots in a muddy field.

This latest blow follows a string of bad luck the actor has suffered since his high-profile split from his girlfriend of eight years, Taiwanese actress and model Tiffany Hsu, 31, in March. Since then Ethan has been rumoured to have cheated on her with a married Chinese celebrity, and he also suffered injuries when he got into a motorcycle accident.

Harry Potter and The Cursed Child actors cast

'Harry Potter and The Cursed Child' has cast its lead actors.

The stage show - a spin-off from the popular novels and movie series - will debut at the Palace Theatre in the heart of London in summer 2016 with Jamie Parker playing Harry, Noma Dumezweni as Hermione Granger and Paul Thornley taking the role of Ron Weasley, the Daily Mail reports.

In the movies Harry, Hermione and Ron were played by Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint.

Director and co-writer John Tiffany previously insisted the the trio won't be involved in the play.

He said: "I would be very surprised if any of the original cast were to feature because the last thing they would want to do is go back to something they did 10 years ago.

"We've been working with actors since the beginning of this year, but the characters are the stars of this - so I don't think we'll be saying a hot Hollywood actor will be playing Harry Potter."

Meanwhile, producer Sonia Friedman said the casting was a collective decision involving author JK Rowling, director John, playwright Jack Thorne, producer Colin Callender and herself.

She explained: "We were all involved with all the key casting decisions."

Discussing the two-part play, which Rowling sees as the eighth in the franchise, she previously revealed it will follow Harry's second son Albus, 19 years after the last book.

Newly divorced Tony Sun invites Shara Lin to collaborate on concert

Taiwanese actor and singer Tony Sun, 37, has invited Shara Lin, his co-star in the Taiwanese drama series If God Loves, to be the guest performer at his December 19 concert, and shared a photo on Facebook of them at rehearsal together.

“I’m thrilled that I could engage this talented, sophisticated musical genius as the special guest of the night,” he wrote. “This will be the first time we’re collaborating on a musical project. I wonder how it will turn out?”

Regarding the recent rumour that Tony had been thrown out by Taiwanese actress Angel Han, 36, his wife of four years, the actor denied that was the case. “The one who found a new place sooner moved out first — there was no ‘throwing out!’” he said.

He also denied knowing about any ambiguous relationship between Angel and actor Eric Huang, her co-star from the Taiwanese drama series Taste of Life.

The couple announced their divorce in early October.

Furbulous Celebrity Meow series: Felicia Chin and the other guy in her life

In the midst of shopping for gifts, soaking up the festive spirit and preparing for Christmas parties at the office or home, we remember a classic story about an old miserly man called Scrooge, who was taught how to live life all over again through visions from the past, present and future. In a nutshell, he learns about kindness and giving, which in turn brought him happiness and love.

This story brings to mind the intangible benefits many pet owners gain through their fur kids – be it big or small, and this Christmas season we’d like to spread some love and attention to a particular group of furry dwellers in the community -- the cats.

For this special series, we speak to four celebrity cat owners, Lin Peifen, Nat Ho, Felicia Chin and Priscelia Chan as they share stories about their furry felines who have each brought love into their lives.

Did you know Felicia once worked at the Singapore Zoological Gardens for three months, before she joined Star Search in 2003, after graduating from junior college?

The animal lover said it was her childhood dream to work with the zoo and during her time at both the Zoo and the Night Safari, she hosted their animal shows and learned how to clean and maintain their living quarters. “It’s amazing to be close to the predators and cute little animals. And there’s no way they can pay you back except for the intimate connection they have with you,” she shared.

You could say her love for animals is vicariously magnified through her devotion to Mian Bao, whom she adopted two years ago.

In an interview with Toggle, Felicia shared that memories of her first encounter with cats, which took place many years ago, when she was still a young girl, are still fresh in her mind: she saw an old man feeding the cats at the void deck every night without fail and he’d even teach the others the right method to feed the strays without causing a mess or attracting the ants.

“He took care of all the cats in the neighbourhood and I’d always remember him for the basic love he had for the cats,” she quipped.

So when she finally felt ready to play her part and “adopt a new love” into her life, Felicia jumped at the chance of bringing Mian Bao home when a friend had recused an abused pregnant cat who gave birth to a litter of five to six kittens.

“She asked if anyone wanted to adopt the kittens and I felt an urge to do so. The kittens looked really adorable but most importantly I felt I could take care of the cat, plus, I had a better management of my time then.”

Previously fearful about handling babies, cats or dogs, the actress smiled wryly too as she spoke about how far she has “surprisingly” progressed with handling another tiny being’s life.

“More confident” now, the relatively new pet owner laughingly quipped, “He’s like my boyfriend and I am still trying to get to know him in our relationship.”

Another thing Felicia has learned from Mian Bao that has helped her as an actress? Living in the moment.

“That’s something I observed when I see Mian Bao or other animals in general. When they play they play, when they eat they eat, when they sleep they sleep; I think that’s how we should live our lives,” she quipped, “Sometimes we worry too much about the future when the moment is the only thing that is certain. This applies to me not just as an actress but as a person too.”

“I think he has taught me more than I have helped him in his life,” she added with a grin.

Why does Felicia think Mian Bao takes after her character in The Golden Path, and what did Mian Bao do that caused Felicia to change her sofa twice? Read on for more!

Toggle: Out of all the TV characters you’ve played, which one best depicts Mian Bao’s personality?
Felicia: Hmm, maybe The Golden Path’s Lin Fei. She’s very individualistic, sometimes nonchalant but when she loves a person, she loves deeply. So that’d be his character – he’s very fair as well (laughs), I was very fair-skinned in that show.

A lot of pet owners have pets that look like them or are similar in temperament, so in what ways are you like Mian Bao and what is the most Felicia-like behaviour seen in Mian Bao?
I think we’re both very easy going – he can be hugged by anyone and one of my friends even branded him as the best cat in the world. He did a cover shoot for a pet’s magazine before and they said he was one of the easiest cats they worked with. And that’s like me too, sometimes my friend would say to me: ‘Given your character, how are you going to take care of yourself when you go out?’ I think we can sleep anywhere too (guffaws) – he’d slouch against the door or against the table leg and I don’t want to say this but I can slouch and rest and sleep anywhere.

But he’s a very picky eater - that’s not like me, and I don’t pee around like him too (laughs).

Has Mian Bao urinated somewhere he shouldn’t? What do you think he is saying to you?
He peed on my sofa like two to three times and I’ve changed the sofa twice (chuckles). It always happens when I’m not home or when I’m not looking and I think that’s when we have to pay more attention to their behaviour. For example, when he’s going to pee at a spot he’s not supposed to, he’d walk around the area and start scratching. Sometimes it’s not his problem but our problem too, so I’m still trying to learn by spending more time with him – and neutering.

(Ed’s note: We learned that Mian Bao was neutered on the same day, after this interview was conducted)

What are his favourite spots at home and how did he claim “rights” to it?
He likes to jump up to higher grounds like the window ledge, so much so that I want to construct a cat superhighway – I think he’ll love it. He likes high areas and, of course, the sofa – and the bed too (which he has peed on once).

Have you learned how to tell his meows apart? Do you know what Mian Bao is feeling by his meows?
Yes, especially when he is locked up in the toilet (laughs). I’d go about my stuff in the morning and sometimes he’d come in the toilet with me too. Then I’d be done, go out and come home two hours later to hear him meowing! Luckily, it’s for a short period of time because I felt bad. And this meow is different from the I-want-food meow.

As an actress with a busy work schedule, how do you spend time with Mian Bao?
Before I started on my new project Life - Fear Not, we’d go on walks. Many people are amazed when I bring my cat out because he’s not scared at all! Sometimes when cats or dogs go to new places, they’d be scared and petrified but Mian Bao is super curious. When I put him in my car, he’d just perch himself on the dashboard and park himself there. When people drive past my car, they’d do a double take to confirm if that’s really a cat on my dashboard (chuckles).

Once I brought him to my coach’s place because she loves cats but has two dogs. I know there’s a process to introduce cats to dogs and after we tried it, the dogs were so enthusiastic and wanted to play with him but Mian Bao tried to hide. Later, he went around the house like it was his playground although it was his first time there. He checked out the kitchen, the toilet and the rooms and eventually found himself a nice cosy spot and nestled himself there. He has quite a character – maybe because the owner’s like that too (laughs).

If you could make a Christmas wish for Mian Bao, what would it be and why?

I’d wish that he grows up healthy, keeps his character this way and keep on surprising me every day.

You helped rally for donations when Cat Welfare Society (CWS) did their fund-raising activities a few months ago – is this out of volunteerism?
Definitely. When I was younger I did some volunteering activities too and when I came to know of CWS when I did the cover shoot for a pet’s magazine, I felt that the most direct way to help them is through social media. Recently when I celebrated my birthday I pledged a certain amount too. I think it’s great that a lot of cats are sterilised and the population is kept under control and I think a lot of good work is done by CWS. You know when they say you can tell how developed a country is by their treatment towards the strays. Strays are defenseless and it speaks a lot when there’s someone caring for them. I hope this spirit will go on.

How do you think people can help provide a safe and healthy environment for strays to live in?
The very basic is just to love them the way you’d love yourself or your children. All these cases of abuse or mutilation are just ridiculous and it’s painful to know that there are certain people treating defenseless animals this way. Look out for the strays – we can even prevent people from doing such mindless acts of abuse with some attention. That’s a very first step forward.

I think the message of love is important too, especially from the way parents speak to their children about the strays and having the people in the community respecting the cats. It’s good to sow the seeds in children that even though cats are not humans, they should be respected because they are also lives.
