Sammi Cheng speaks up against ticket scalpers

Hong Kong songstress Sammi Cheng will be holding her ‘Touch Mi World Tour Round 2’ encore concert later this year, with tickets for her shows becoming a hot commodity due to the high demand and reasonable price.

In order to contain demand for the tickets, Sammi has put in place a number of restrictions, only allowing each buyer to only purchase four tickets at a time. However a number of ticket scalpers still managed to get their hands on additional tickets, causing the 43-year-old to take to her Weibo in an attempt to persuade her fans to refrain from buying tickets from the scalpers.

“Don’t buy from the scalpers. Every single member of the audience should have the principle of buying tickets at their original price. Let them struggle to sell the tickets that they had bought in bulk. I’d rather perform to rows of empty seats, than to see you guys have to succumb to buying tickets from them [the scalpers],” Sammi wrote.

The singer then went on to reassure her fans that she’ll still “perform to the best of her abilities”, even if she faced empty seats, before ending her post to practice for her upcoming concert tour.

However, the comments section of Sammi’s post showed that her fans had mixed reactions to her impassioned post. While some fans had expressed their gratitude to Sammi for speaking out about the ticket scalpers, some lamented that they had really wanted to watch Sammi’s concert, but did not manage to get any tickets, leaving them no choice but to “bow down to the scalpers”.
