Jam Hsiao’s S$9.17 million birthday present to himself

Taiwanese singer Jam Hsiao recently celebrated his 30th birthday in style – by purchasing a mystery present worth NT$200 million (S$9.17 million) for himself.

The 30-year-old took to his Facebook last month to write, “[I] bought an extremely valuable present that I will recklessly give myself as a gift for my 30th birthday. A present [so valuable] that I don’t even dare to accept, but ultimately accepted in the end.”

At a promotional event yesterday (April 9), he finally shed light on his cryptic post, and revealed what one of the two presents he bought himself is.

When reporters asked if he had bought a private jet for himself, he laughed and commented, “[You must] be crazy.” Unwilling to give up, the reporters persisted in questioning him about his big purchase, asking if he had “signed a marriage registration license”, as he used to mention that he’ll tie the knot before he turns 30.

The singer then answered in the negative, sharing that he has “pushed back” his own deadline, and plans to tie the knot at 35 instead.

Later, he finally revealed that he had recently moved into a mansion worth NT$200 million (approximately S$9.17 million) in Nangang District, Taipei, which he had purchased as part of his present to himself. If you thought that was over-the-top, Jam let on that he has also bought himself another present other than the mansion.

He stopped short at revealing what it is, and coyly teased that it is something that he “will use”.
