The daughter of Taiwanese actress Alyssa Chia and actor Xiu Jie Kai, Bubu, celebrated her first birthday on Sunday with a lavish party organised by her doting parents and older sister, Angelina Sun.
The birthday cake, which featured a 3D fondant figure of Bubu, was specially ordered from Taiwanese pop diva Jolin Tsai’s team of bakers.
A special Chinese ceremony, zhua zhou, was also prepared for the 1-year-old. During the ceremony, the baby will have an array of items like a book, abacus, stamp, money, food and more spread out in front of her and according to the traditions, a baby’s future can be predicted based on what the baby grabs first.
Before Bubu’s zhua zhou ceremony, Jie Kai had added a picture of himself into the spread of items for the ceremony as a joke.
Later, he removed the picture, only for Bubu to grab on to him once she arrived. The jubilant father then exclaimed, “She wants to be with me forever!”
Later, Alyssa also dedicated a post on her Facebook to her daughter. The actress wrote, “Dear Bubu, mummy, daddy and your older sister will always be with you. We’ll accompany you as you start to discover everything in life, from the sweet to the sour, spicy and bitter. You might encounter obstacles in the future, but don’t be afraid! You must learn to be brave and grow stronger [through your experiences].”
