Stephen Chow: I’ve never stopped wanting to act

Hong Kong director Stephen Chow may be dominating box offices in Asia with his fantasy flick The Mermaid, but the 53-year-old hasn’t given up his wish to keep acting.

When asked recently when he might make his acting comeback, he said, “Forget it! I’m so old now!”

But he changed his mind: “For now I want to focus on my work as a director — I’m actually acting more when I’m a director, because I demonstrate every role to my actors. But the desire to be an actor has never left me.”

Stephen’s The Mermaid, released over the Chinese New Year period, has grossed more than NT$13.5 billion (approximately S$560 million) in mainland China.
