George Young becomes Irene Ang’s “Cate Blanchett”

When George Young joined local artiste management agency FLY Entertainment in 2011, he told his new boss, founder Irene Ang, that he was going to be her “Cate Blanchett”.

“I saw Irene’s bio while looking up Singapore agents, and she mentioned that she was looking for her own Cate Blanchett,” recalled the British-born actor, 36, in a phone interview from Los Angeles. Irene has also shared this lofty vision, inspired by the Australian agency that discovered the two-time Oscar winning actress, in several interviews. “I told her that one day, I will be going to Hollywood.”

Less than five years later, that bold statement came to pass. In early 2014, George began attending television auditions in Los Angeles, and in May last year, he became the first FLY Entertainment artiste to land a starring role in an American TV series with Containment. The 13-episode drama debuted last week on The CW (the network that also gave us Gossip Girl and Supernatural), and will kick off its local broadcast on Channel 5 at 10.15pm tonight (after which new episodes will be released at 10pm on Wednesdays).

Getting the part was a long and arduous process, especially compared to how things are usually done in Singapore. “In Hollywood, there is a series of loops you have to jump through (to get a role),” George explained, revealing that after making it through two auditions, he was called up for a studio test, a session with Containment’s executive producer Julie Plec (who is also working on The Vampire Diaries), and finally, a meeting in “an amazing office that you see on Entourage” where he did his scenes in front of 15 network executives.

To George’s horror, that final round was not as smooth-sailing as he had hoped. “Right at the last line, I thought, ‘What if I screw up?’ and I did! So okay, that’s fine, I wanted to be a professional and went back to the beginning to do it again, and I screwed up the line even earlier,” he recounted.

Thankfully, the third time was the charm and he nailed the next attempt. “I said to (the executives), ‘Oh, I just wanted to do it three times for effect’, and thankfully, they laughed! It would have been really bad for me if they didn’t laugh.”

Despite the immense pressure, George readily declared that he is prepared to repeat the whole process all over again for future projects. “I think I’m a bit screwed up in the head, but I do like auditioning,” he chuckled. “You have to do a lot as an actor so you have to have that masochistic quality, to enjoy it.”

In Containment, George plays Dr. Victor Cannerts, a medical researcher who makes the controversial call to quarantine a large area of Atlanta after the outbreak of a mysterious and fatal epidemic, before racing to find a cure for it.

While his character is forced to stay calm in the midst of all the chaos, George admits that he “wouldn’t last a second” in a plague like this. “I would lock myself in my apartment, fire up some computer games and stay there forever, surviving on canned food and three-day-old chicken rice until it runs out,” he said with a laugh. “I’ll be quite the coward and I won’t be out there fighting.”

Although it may sound like one, Containment is not a zombie movie. “If you get the virus, you’re not The Walking Dead, you’re just dead,” said George. “It’s more science fact than science fiction – this can actually happen and it has happened to some degree with H1N1, bird flu, Ebola and most recently Zika.”

George went on to say that the series makes the viewer ask the question of what they would do if a situation like this really happened in their part of the world. “Imagine you’re at work, and suddenly there’s a virus outbreak and they quarantine half of Singapore,” he theorised. “You’re not allowed to see your family and you don’t know what’s happening; panic will start to spread and social media will go viral – the show contains an exploration of that, which I really love.”

As much as he’s excited about the show, George “warned” that it may potentially make hypochondriacs out of everybody. “You’ll be wearing masks and applying hand sanitiser everywhere – it has definitely happened to me!” he said. “Every time someone sneezed, we (he and his co-stars) would avoid that person, and we think about it when we shake hands.”

This is why it’s unsurprising that George “freaked out” when he visited his wife, Taiwanese-American host Janet Hsieh, in the hospital earlier this month while she was suffering from low blood pressure.

“It was my first experience in a hospital after doing the show, and I told Janet, ‘It feels like I’m back on set!’,” he said, before reassuring us about Janet’s condition, “She got a bit ill and needed an IV drip to rehydrate, but it was nothing serious and she’s good now.”

Denise Ho speaks up about getting “raped” in Finland

Singer Denise Ho backpacked around Europe recently, and stayed at the houses of the locals during her trip. Last week, she posted on her Facebook page, and revealed that she had encountered a lecherous homeowner in Finland, but declined to reveal further details.

The media subsequently reported that the singer had “narrowly escaped being raped” and that she had to “escape through her window, with only a bra on her upper body”.

However, the 38-year-old posted a lengthy post on her Facebook yesterday and related her experience in Finland, in an attempt to clear up the rumours.

The singer had booked a room online in the house of a family of three, which had good reviews. However, once she arrived, she saw that the female owner looked tired and very ‘out of it’, and didn’t answer her questions properly as well. There was also numerous alcohol bottles and cigarette butts in the house, which was when Denise started to get a bit suspicious.

The next day, she met the male owner for the first time, who asked for a hug from her. Denise had initially thought that it was “the custom of the Finnish” to ask for hugs, and thought nothing of it.

That night, however, the male owner hugged her again when she was in her towel going down to the sauna. Later, he even intentionally walked into the sauna room and appeared “noticeably aroused.”

An “alarmed” and scared Denise immediately escaped back to her room and started thinking how to get back to the city centre, which was 30 minutes away. While she was thinking, she heard the owners quarrelling, and took advantage of their distraction to leave the house.

As it was deserted outside, with “no cars around, and an ice-covered road”, Denise was left with no choice but to walk to the city centre whilst constantly looking back to ensure that she wasn’t being followed. After reaching the city, she checked into a hotel immediately.

The singer also explained that she was posting up what exactly happened to her to refute the rumours reported by the tabloids, and clarified that she was not raped, as “it would be more accurate to say I was sexually harassed.”

Finally, she reminded other lone female travellers to be careful, and advised them not to stay silent if they meet with similar circumstances. She also urged them to quickly escape and confide in their loved ones, and to report it to the police if it was a serious case.

Gwyneth Paltrow's life changed at 40

Gwyneth Paltrow underwent a "massive software upgrade" when she turned 40.

The 43-year-old actress - who has children Apple, 11, and Moses, 10, with ex-husband Chris Martin - admits she has made a "bunch of changes" to her life since reaching the landmark age and is now more "content" and happy with herself than ever.

Gwyneth - who announced she had split from the Coldplay frontman in March 2014 but later admitted they had separated the previous year - said: "At 40, my life changed so much. I think every woman around that time gets this massive software upgrade. You're just different. You're upgraded.

"For me there were just a bunch of changes I had to make to really be true to myself and really live my happiness. And you have to be brave and make the choice to do that, to truly accept yourself and love yourself and really forgive yourself for your mis-steps.

"So it's been a long interesting road to get to the place where I feel really content and that I really know myself and like myself. I wish they could teach girls to do this when they are 16 instead of 40, but that's part of life."

The 'Iron Man' actress spent much of her marriage living in London and though she enjoys her life in Los Angeles, she does miss the UK city because it always made her feel more "awake and alive".

Asked if she misses London, she told Red magazine:

"Not in January, can I say that? My hardest time was always when you come back after the Christmas holiday until the February half term. You know what it's like!

"There are a few major things that I miss. I miss being an ex-pat, in that when you are in a city that is not the city you were born and raised in, you notice everything.

"I felt so awake and alive there and was in total marvel about the architecture and the history. As an American, you never get used to the beauty."

And Gwyneth loves being surrounded by the "sights and smells" of her childhood now she's back in California.

She said: "It's near enough to the ocean that you sometimes get that saline smell. I was born here and lived here until I was 11 years old, so these are all the sights and smells of my childhood: The bougainvillea, the ivy, blue skies, old telephone poles and the sea. Those are my sights and smells."

Uncle Ringo, with his travelling funfair making old-world charms

While theme parks typically offer fast and furious rides that send one's pulse racing to an adrenaline high, the rides at this amusement park are more likely to send one waltzing down memory lane.

At Uncle Ringo funfair, things do not look like they have moved on from 1984, the year when Mr Lee Woon Chiang - or Uncle Ringo - started the amusement park.

There are 1980s attractions such as a carousel, a ghost train and bumper cars, as well as stalls offering games like tossing a ring onto a bottle, bursting balloons with darts and tikam tikam, where one makes guesses to win prizes.

"There is no such place like this left in Singapore. You cannot find the same ambience at modern theme parks like Universal Studios. It's different," said the 64-year-old who started the fair in the same year his only child was born.

While amusement parks like Great World and Kallang Wonderland have come and gone, Uncle Ringo funfair is believed to be one of the rare old-school amusement parks remaining today.

But it does not stay at one place for long - the travelling funfair pops up in large open fields in different parts of the island and packs up after two weeks to a month.

SHARING THE EXPERIENCE

The last time I was at a funfair like this was when I was a young boy. I was seven. At that time, it was beside Tampines MRT station. I am now passing the experience to my son.

TECHNICIAN M. FARID JAFFAR, who was at the funfair with his wife and three children.

It appears at different places about six times a year and is found usually during public holidays such as National Day as well as the June school holidays.

"I wanted to create something that can bring joy to children. It's a playground for people of all ages, because all of us have a child inside us," said Mr Lee, who used to sell recycled chemicals before starting the travelling fair.

Today, more than 30 years on, Mr Lee is still selling fun and games, but with the help of his daughter Joyce, who is now 32 and the company's sales and marketing manager.

A crew of about 30 is needed to run the funfair, Mr Lee said. About 20 of them are students working part-time, and 10 are retirees.

"Our ticketing staff are all retirees above 60. Games and rides are tended by the youngsters who are working part-time," he said.

Uncle Ringo, which takes about 10 days to set up, installs between five and eight rides each time, depending on the size of the space.

During Singapore's 50th birthday last year, Mr Lee had many requests from government agencies to set up his carnival at SG50 events.

For instance, Uncle Ringo last concluded its funfair at the Bayfront event space a month ago on March 27, as part of the iLight Marina Bay festival organised by the Urban Redevelopment Authority. He said it attracted about 5,000 people a day.

But not all things remain in a time warp at the funfair. Customers now pay for rides and games, which cost $5 to $10 each, with a stored value card instead of paper tickets. This year, Mr Lee also upgraded some of the rides, which were imported from Italy and England.

Incidentally, the name of the funfair is also linked to England - Mr Lee got the nickname of Uncle Ringo as he shared the same hairstyle as Beatles drummer Ringo Starr and was a fan of the 1960s pop band which started in Liverpool, England.

Spotted at the funfair one night last month were teenagers, families with toddlers, and couples cuddling plush toys they had just won.

Technician M. Farid Jaffar, 32, was there with his wife and three children. "The last time I was at a funfair like this was when I was a young boy. I was seven. At that time, it was beside Tampines MRT station," he said. "I am now passing the experience to my son."

Madam Low Kailing was at the fair with her husband and their one-year-old toddler. "It's more for my child, to let him experience the sights and sounds. We just want to let him watch for now, since he's still young. Next year, he'll be asking to play," said the 34-year-old, who is self-employed.

In June, the carnival will travel to Punggol.

The fun has not gone out of the funfair business for Mr Lee and he does not intend to quit any time soon. He said: "I want to preserve these games for the young generation. Weenjoyed them when we were young. And I want my children to continue enjoying them."

Gurmit Singh, Kumar, Joanne Kam’s comedic reunion

Come on down to Laugh Die You 3 – The Karaoke and you might just walk away with a new television... or so says Gurmit Singh, or should we say Hero Singh, the new alter-ego of Gurmit.

Laugh Die You is Malaysia’s best-selling comedy hit, and yes, it’s coming to Singapore. Apart from Gurmit, the show also features Malaysia’s only female stand-up comedian, Joanne Kam, Singapore’s very own Kumar and Malaysian band Hydra.

The show, which is not kid-friendly by the way, will feature jabs about Singapore’s “current affairs, weather and the recent MRT breakdowns,” says Kumar, who is known for his jabs and biting observations about politics and life in Singapore.

At the press conference, Gurmit gave the media a peek into what will happen at the show – lots and lots of audience interaction. The 51-year-old burst out on stage dressed as his new character, Hero Singh, in a red turban and a monochrome security guard uniform, and proceeded to pick three ‘victims’ to go up onstage.

The funnyman had promised television sets to be given away at the show itself, but for now, there were only hotel toiletries to be won, or as Hero said, extremely valuable toiletries worth $200 each, as “you can’t get them without a night’s stay in the hotel.”

Next up on stage was Joanne, who proceeded to jokingly chide Hero for swiping the toiletries he had given out earlier from her own hotel room.

“Who got the shampoo?” she asked, before ragging on Hero for causing her to forgo washing her hair last night.

Joanne’s stories of her attempts to lose weight and her self-deprecating remarks about her own size brought much joy to the audience, as she unabashedly poked fun at herself.

The three comedians also revealed more of their undeniable chemistry and camaraderie in an interview with Toggle afterwards.

When asked which comedian they’d like to work with, Joanne answered, “I’d love to work with Wanda Sykes, Margaret Cho, oh and Whitney Cummings! I can do the Kam and Cummings show!” with Gurmit chiming in, “Kam, Come, Cummings, Gone.”

Joanne also shared more about the differences between performing in Malaysia and Singapore, saying that in Malaysia, there are “certain words we use in Malay that everyone gets,” but in Singapore she has to remember to translate these words into English.

The trio, who used to work together “way back when Haw Par Villa was still a theme park”, spoke about the differences between Singaporean and Malaysian audiences as well. They agreed that Singaporean audiences took longer to warm up – “they’ll be in the taxi on the way home before they start laughing!”, and that they were more afraid to laugh, especially when jokes about local policies are cracked.

When quizzed about the origins of Hero Singh, quick-witted Gurmit quipped immediately, “I was born from my mother’s womb, like everybody,” before sharing that Hero came about when Gurmit realised that he had never done a Punjabi character, which was especially ironic, considering that he was Punjabi himself. “I was just sitting there, talking about what to do and then, ‘Eh! Why don’t we do this?’ [I have] no idea why [I was suddenly inspired].”

Later, when asked to poke fun at each other, what started out as a simple answer by Kumar, “The Gurmit that you see on stage is definitely different from the Gurmit you see at home,” evolved into a discussion about why it is against the law to walk around undressed in your own home, with Kumar and Gurmit explaining to Joanne and even inserting a few jibes about each other’s attractiveness while at it.

Laugh Die You 3 - The Karaoke will take place at the Resorts World Theatre in Resort World Sentosa, on 9 and 10 July 2016. Tickets are available on sistic.com.sg from May 6 onwards.

Nicky Wu, Cecilia Liu threaten to sue aesthetic clinic for using wedding portrait

Tangren Media, which represents Chinese actress Cecilia Liu, 29, has threatened to issue a legal letter to a Taiwanese aesthetic clinic caught using her wedding photo without authorisation to promote its cosmetic procedures.

The portrait of Cecilia and her husband, Taiwanese actor Nicky Wu, 45, wearing traditional wedding clothes was posted on the clinic’s Facebook page, with a caption that read: “Even with chubby cheeks and a full chin, I can still marry (Nicky)!”

In response to Tangren Media’s warning, the clinic’s representatives said: “The photo of Cecilia Liu was pulled from Weibo, and we’ve consulted lawyers, who have assured us there is no infringement of the celebrity’s image rights in this case.”

“But if Cecilia Liu is not agreeable to our use of the image, we could settle it in private. We’ve taken down the Facebook post in question, and we never intended to imply Cecilia Liu has undergone cosmetic procedures.”

Cecilia married Nicky in Bali last month. They registered their marriage in Beijing in early 2015.

Yesung thanks Siwon for his support towards solo album

Super Junior member Yesung made his solo debut with Here I Am on April 19 and thanked his fellow group mate Siwon for his support.

Following the footsteps of Kyuhyun and Ryeowook, Yesung rounded up sub-unit Super Junior-K.R.Y (Kyuhyun, Ryeowook, Yesung) in releasing solo albums.

While his album has received lukewarm responses, Siwon showed his support by purchasing 10 copies of the album. Guesting on MBC’s FM4U yesterday (April 26), Yesung shared that he did not expect for the strong show of support but was grateful for it.

Having bought a copy of both Kyuhyun and Ryeowook’s solo albums, he chuckled that Siwon, given his well-to-do background, “Could have bought 100 copies instead”.

Meanwhile, someone claiming to be Yesung’s brother made a post on popular Korean online portal Naver about the solo album, shared “As a younger brother who watched him work hard for four years (on this album), I wanted him to do well. I believed that he would do well because the song is good, but it wasn’t easy after the song was released.”

“He worked so hard on it and everyone around him like it but it isn’t doing well (…) His song is called ‘Here I Am’, so please listen to it and judge it objectively (…) because I was so frustrated and desperate for him to be able to do well, I posted this without any shame. Thank you for reading,” he finished.

Adam Levine wants to spoil pregnant Behati Prinsloo rotten

Adam Levine wants to spoil his pregnant wife.

The Maroon 5 frontman is looking forward to welcoming his first child with Victoria's Secret Angel Behati Prinsloo and can't wait to spoil her rotten.

He told E! News: "It's awesome. I'm going to be a dad. S**t, I'm excited. I'm going to be a f***ing dad. I'm going to spoil Behati ...

"Kid's not even out yet. Can't be spoiling a kid before a kid gets out."

Meanwhile, the 37-year-old singer previously admitted he is definitely "ready" to be a father.

He said: "I'm ready to be a dad. You're born to be a parent, that's what we're here for, really. All the other s*** is great, but it's not what we're here for."

However, he is trying to ignore some of the advice he and Behati, 26, have been offered as they want to bring up their little girl in their own way.

He shared: "When you are doing this for the first time, everybody loves to tell you what you should be doing. So, we're kind of tuning a lot of it out and we're just going to do it how we do it."

Adam has been desperate to have kids for quite sometime, revealing he wanted a big family soon after he tied the knot with the model in 2014.

He said at the time: "We're definitely going to do it. I want to have 100 kids. I want to have more kids than would be socially responsible. [I want] like, 17. Is that reasonable? I love kids so much though."

Since news of the little one broke, his fellow musicians have rushed to offer their congratulations.

Fellow 'The Voice' coach Pharrell Williams said of Adam's big news: "He's a really engaged type of person. So, I think he's going to be really engaged with his son or daughter ... When he's into something, he's into it. And I know that he's going to be into his child, for sure."

Evonne Hsu stalked while out on a walk with her baby

Singer-actress Evonne Hsu, who married her husband Dennis in 2013 and gave birth to Baby E last year, was stalked while out on a walk with her little one. The 39-year-old, who was with her good friend Peggy Hsu, was so frightened she resorted to posting on Facebook for help.

Yesterday, the singer-actress revealed on Facebook that she was being followed by a man wearing sunglasses. The duo only realised that they were being followed after a while and immediately went inside a department store to try and shake him off. However, the expressionless man continued to follow them inside the store and even tailed them to the carpark.

Evonne, who ruled out the possibility of him being either a fan or from the paparazzi, said in her post, “Mister, following us suspiciously for such a long period of time will only result in us feeling extremely uncomfortable… Especially as a mother with a baby, I’m wondering what he really wants (from us).”

After seeing her post, concerned fans left messages reminding her to be careful when she goes out, and that it was best to have someone to be with her when she goes out in public. In response, Evonne assured, “If he continues following us, we will report it to the guards at the department store.”

‘Fang siblings’ crowned Toggle Most Beloved Celebrity BFF winners

Rui En had her hands firmly clasped over Dennis Chew’s hand, when the presenters were announcing the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artiste winners, at Sunday night’s Star Awards 2016 Part 2. She enthusiastically cheered for Dennis, too, when his name was announced and promptly pulled him in to plant a victory kiss on his cheek.

The ‘Fang siblings’ and crowd favourite duo’s camaraderie was captured on national television, and during Dennis’ backstage interview with Toggle, after they were announced the Toggle Most Beloved Celebrity BFF award winner, Dennis shed light on his interactions with Rui En.

“I don’t know if the entire process was recorded but she grabbed my hand and never let go. When she felt my cold hands, she said: “Kor! You’re really nervous!”… And she pulled me in closer to feel her body warmth,” he shared, “When my name was announced, Rui En said: ‘It’s you, it’s you!’ She was even more ecstatic than me.”

Rui En had left after the awards ceremony and was absent at the post-party event as her gastric problem acted up again. Her gastric problem was exacerbated by stress from recent events and she had puked “literally walking in front of the audience” and “a lot of people saw me vomit into my hands”, said Rui En, in a note clarifying her absence which was posted on RBKD’s website.

Explaining that her early departure from the event was “not a matter of being angry at Pornsak’s shade or not winning Best Actress,” she added, “I wanted to face the press and face the music. I am so happy for Jeanette (Aw) [for winning Best Actress Award].”

During his interview, Dennis also added that Rui En arrived at the venue for hair and make-up already looking pale and sickly. “After make-up you can’t tell that she’s unwell, but she’s really not feeling well,” he said.

The host added that Rui En wanted to meet him backstage, before the show began, but when he went to find her at the hair and make-up unit, she was in the midst of changing into her outfit. When they finally met backstage, he said that she had ran to him and enveloped him in a big hug. “That is a very important hug to me. It represented encouragement and good luck from her and my hug to her is to wish her happiness.”

When Rui En was notified about her Toggle BFF win, which is determined by 100 per cent online votes, with Dennis, she said through her manager: “Thank you to my fans, RBKD, for giving me this award. Thank you for your hard work. I’m very grateful to all of you; I will continue working hard to present even better works to everyone.”

“I think in such a sensitive period, regardless of what award [was won], it is all a form of encouragement to Rui En,” said Dennis, during his winner’s interview, “I’m sure she’s very touched too, for the both of us to win the Toggle Most Beloved Celebrity BFF award.

“A lot of people support the ‘Fang siblings’ since The Dream Makers 1 and it really feels like we’re siblings in real life. We do chat on an almost daily basis and while I can’t reveal what we talk about, we do say ‘I love you’ to each other. I really love her as a younger sister and she loves me as an elder brother.”

Infinite′s Nam Woo Hyun to Release Debut Solo Album on May 9

Sooo, this means they're definitely back on, right?

Megan Fox was spotted on vacation with her maybe-not-so-estranged husband Brian Austin Green in Hawaii last Friday.

The "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" actress looked gorgeous as she showed off her pregnancy curves in a black bikini top with a colorful saran. Green looked equally handsome, going sans shirt for their walk on the beach, where he showed off his ripped bod.

In one photo, the "Beverly Hills, 90210" alum, 42, is seen with his hand on the "TMNT" star's baby bump as she holds onto his arm. In another, the two are holding hands.

Fox surprised everyone earlier this month on the red carpet for CinemaCon 2016 Gala Opening Night in Las Vegas, when she first showed off her budding belly.

This will be Megan and Brian's third child together, though they filed for divorce last August. From the looks of it, the divorce might be on hold now.

The two are already proud parents to Noah, 3, and Bodhi, 2.

What do you think is going on here?

Jeffrey Xu: I like Felicia Chin

A few weeks ago, Jeffrey Xu pledged to give Felicia Chin a kiss – should he bag his first Top 10 Most Popular Male Artiste award at the Star Awards 2016 Part 2 show. Yesterday night, he finally made good on his word and gave her a hug before receiving his trophy on stage and even managed to give her a kiss on the cheek at the post-party reception.

Much has been discussed about Jeffrey and Felicia’s relationship with each other ever since a YES 933 deejay spotted them out on the streets together, on what is said to be a “date”.

The two denied the rumours and said they are “just good friends”, but they are “good friends” who’d root for each other – with Felicia openly thanking Jeffrey last weekend when she received her Top 10 award and vice versa when Jeffrey received his first Top 10 award last night.

Yesterday, at the post-party show, Jeffrey openly admitted his feelings for Felicia, during his interview with the media.

“I like Felicia,” he honestly admitted, “But I’d still need some time and I think the same applies for her. We’re still in the stage of getting to know each other. As for whether we’ll take things to the next level remains to be seen, but I’m thankful for everyone’s care and concern.

The Shanghai-born actor explained that his hug to Felicia on national television was his way of thanking her for helping to change his “career and life” after they started to work together on the set of Life – Fear Not.

“We have similar religions, similar careers and [I feel] there are sparks between us. I feel very comfortable being with her,” he added.

In another interview with Felicia and Jeffrey, the lady in question praised her co-star and rumoured beau for his “good character” and for being a nice chap.

“I have never not-liked him,” said Felicia, indirectly skirting the question about their current relationship status. “We’re at the stage of getting to know each other and I’m really happy that he has won this award tonight.”

When pressed about the supposed kiss that he promised to give her, Jeffrey then turned his gaze to Felicia and asked: “Now that I’ve won this award, as a man, I’d like to fulfil my promise and seek your permission [to give you a kiss].”

Felicia, who has been voting for Jeffrey at the Top 10 polls, gave a nod of approval and said: “He has asked me before [about the kiss] and I should  be magnanimous about it. I kiss my mum and my coach too. I think it’s OK – it’s just a peck on the cheek.”

When the deed was done (watch the interview video below!), Jeffrey took the initiative to conclude the interview and promised to “inform everyone of good news” should they decide to take their relationship to the next stage.

“I’ll leave it up to God,” he said.

Here’s to another celebrity couple-in the making.

Gigi Leung tumbles on stage while presenting award

Hong Kong actress and singer Gigi Leung, 40, slipped and fell last night when she walked on stage to present an award at the closing ceremony of the 6th Beijing International Film Festival.

The mother-of-one made her entrance after an ice-skating performance took place and stepped on a piece of ice by accident, which sent her tumbling to the floor before a shocked audience. But Gigi picked herself up quickly and went on to present the award.

Afterwards, the actress–singer posted an update on Weibo to tell her fans she was OK. “It’s like this: We had to walk to the centre of the stage to present the award, and silly me thought that meant the middle of the stage literally,” she wrote.

“I didn’t know where was a large piece of ice there, so with a few more steps I slipped and fell. My apologies for scaring everyone!”

She added she had only suffered some minor injuries. “Haha, actually I really wanted to ice skate!” she joked.

Gigi attended the Beijing International Film Festival with the cast and crew of the movie Summer’s Desire, on which she acts as producer for the first time.

Hannah Welton has paid tribute to her "father figure" Prince.

The 25-year-old musician - who formed part of the late singer's backing band 3RDEYEGIRL - has remembered the 'Purple Rain' singer in a sweet message where she describes him as a "friend, mentor, confidant and brother".

She wrote on Instagram: "The past four years of our life has been a whirlwind ... God used Prince in such a mighty way in mine and Joshua's life ... As newlyweds, walking into this HUGE opportunity, we weren't sure at first how he was going to handle us. (Let's face it, we've all heard crazy stories). But that's just it. Those stories are just stories ...

"Prince quickly became more than just "the artist" to us. He wasn't our "boss." In fact, he didn't like it when people called him that. He was our GREAT friend. Our mentor. Our confidant. Our brother. And even became somewhat like a protective, father figure over us. (sic)"

And Hannah went on to thank the singer - who passed away on Thursday morning (21.04.16) at the age of 57 - for "believing" in them right from the start.

She added: "Though a physical presence has been lost in the natural, his spirit lives on through all the lives he touched. We celebrate the incredible life that he lived, the irreplaceable mark he made, and the millions of lives changed for the better because he was here for 57 short years.

"Thank you Prince...for being all that you are. Thank you for loving my husband and I as your own, and for making sure we knew just how much you loved us. Thank you for believing in us, thank you for pouring into Joshua and sharing all that you did with him. Your friendship will be cherished forever.

"We will make sure baby girl knows just how amazing her Uncle Prince was to us, and countless others, and how excited you were for her precious life. From the bottom of my heart...Thank you. Your legacy lives on... (sic)"

Grace Chow receives stamp of approval from Show Luo’s friends and family

Show Luo’s friends have praised the singer’s girlfriend, Chinese blogger Grace Chow, for being the ‘perfect’ girlfriend. They described Grace as being someone who is direct and doesn’t act coy, receiving the stamp of approval from them.

The 27-year-old was also said to be a thoughtful girlfriend, who does not meddle in Show’s career. Even if the matter in question was something she was good at, she refrains from giving any uncalled-for advice, and lets Show make his own decisions.

These few qualities are what made both Show and his mother approve of her, and it was reported that Grace’s status as the family’s ‘future daughter-in-law’ is pretty much set in stone.

Last night, Show held the Shanghai stop of his Crazy World concert tour, with Grace showing her support by attending the concert.

In an attempt to keep a low profile, Grace dressed discreetly to cheer for Show, who performed over 40 songs on stage. The singer’s long setlist, coupled with his slick dance moves, left the audience in awe.

The 36-year-old had lost 10kg on an apple diet previously, in preparation for the tour and was so stressed that he had to rely on sleeping pills to get a good night’s rest a week before the start of the tour.

During the concert, the singer showed his appreciation for his fans, and said, “ A lot of things have happened in this period of time. There has been many changes, not just in your lives, but in my life too,” implying that even if he’s in a relationship, his fans are always his first priority.

Brandi Glanville Wishes LeAnn Rimes & Eddie Cibrian a Happy Anniversary -- No Shade!

Looks like these two have finally buried the hatchet!

LeAnn Rimes and Brandi Glanville had a very surprising Twitter exchange over the weekend, as the "Can't Fight the Moonlight" singer celebrated her 5th wedding anniversary with the "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star's ex-husband.

LeAnn and Eddie Cibrian took off to Mexico to celebrate, leaving Eddie's children with Brandi with their mother. Glanville was happy to care for her boys, and took to Twitter to wish the couple a happy anniversary.

Despite blowing up at each other in the media at the beginning of the year, it appears things have finally settled down between them all. In January, Brandi said she had an issue with Rimes posting photos of her children on social media, especially during the holidays.

"It's horrible. If my ex husband, if their dad isn't posting pictures, why is she?" she asked at the time, adding that Rimes had a "lack of respect" for her. Eddie chimed in, blasting his ex as a "liar."

Things started to take a turn for the better last week, when Rimes told her followers on Instagram to stop saying negative statements about Brandi.

"It's time to forge a new path," she wrote. "On my page any nasty comment about @brandiglanville will be deleted and not tolerated. Any hate period will be deleted. Stop the comparison, Stop the hate. Stop the trash talk."

"Brandi and I are two separate people who are on our own paths, but working toward the same goal of a healthy, happy family," she continued. "There is no perfect mom or stepmom. We are both doing our best. Leave it be and let's spread some love."

Can you believe they've put the past behind them?!

Check out LeAnn's latest bikini bod pic below from her getaway -- she's lookin' good, right?

Nicholas Tse reportedly neglects his sons

Hong Kong singer and actor Nicholas Tse, 35, has reportedly been neglecting his two sons in favour of his packed worked schedule.

According to Hong Kong media, 5-year-old Quintus has refused to see his father. Nicholas would spend time with his younger son only once every few months, making Quintus so averse to his company that he would throw tantrums to get out of attending family events organised by his grandmother Deborah Li, Nicholas’ mother.

Because of this, for nearly half a year only 8-year-old Lucas would appear at Tse family gatherings.

Nicholas will be involved in a 4D movie spinoff based on his popular cooking show, Chef Nic. He’s also been appointed the head coach on the Chinese reality television programme Lady Bees, giving him less time to spend with his boys.

Since his divorce from Cecilia Cheung, 35, in 2011, the actress has been taking their sons with her to live in Canada and Singapore before they moved back to Hong Kong. A recent photo of the actress, posted by her manager, has earned her praise for her youthful looks and attire.

Nicholas reunited with his former flame, Chinese singer Faye Wong, 46, in September 2014.

Super Junior’s Ryeowook to pass on DJ reins to Leeteuk

Super Junior’s Ryeowook will complete his final week as the radio DJ of Super Junior’s Kiss The Radio (also known as Sukira) and hand over the reins to fellow member Leeteuk. The 28-year-old will be stepping down in order to prepare for his enlistment on June 14.

Leeteuk formerly helmed the show along with Eunhyuk but stepped down in 2011 after five years of being on the airwaves. Following which, Ryeowook and Sungmin hosted the show together until 2013, when the latter stepped down due to his busy schedule. Ryeowook has hosted the show on his own since then.

The Super Junior leader will be juggling a hectic schedule, which includes emceeing on variety programme Star King, in addition to hosting Sukira.

Leeteuk will begin his stint as Sukira’s DJ starting April 25.

Laurinda Ho denies she’s seeing Kai Ko

Laurinda Ho, one of the daughters of Macau casino tycoon Stanley Ho, has denied that she’s romantically involved with Taiwanese actor Kai Ko, 24, after they were seen behaving intimately last Sunday while meeting at a karaoke lounge.

“He and I are not that close,” she said yesterday. “We’ve known each other for about half a year, we met in Taiwan when we went out with a large group of friends, but there were no private dates.”

Responding to reports that she had put her arm around his shoulders, Laurinda said, “A group of us went out to drink and sing karaoke, maybe I had a bit too much and he was being a gentleman by supporting me. We’re regular friends and we weren’t being too intimate, those were normal social interactions so please don’t read too much into it.”

On the same topic, Kai said yesterday: “I’ve honestly not been on an exclusive date with Laurinda, and though we’ve known each other for about half a year, we’ve only been in contact for about two or three months.”

Kai and Taiwanese actress Tia Li, 30, have been rumoured to be dating for close to two years, but a rumour that emerged yesterday said they had split for a month now.

According to sources, Kai and Laurinda met in late 2015 through actor Jaycee Chan and have gone out alone. And though they think well of each other, she can’t get over her former beau of four years, Taiwanese singer Kenji Wu, so she’s keeping Kai at arm’s length.

Kenji and Laurinda split last December.

SM denies sexual harassment claims

S.M. Entertainment has stepped up to strongly deny accusations that they sexually harassed a fan during a security check at the label’s multi-purpose venue, SMTOWN at COEX Artium. The location comprises of a virtual studio, café and theatre in which visitors can enjoy holographic and live performances.

It is believed that the person involved is a fan of EXO, of which leader Suho was a special guest at SM Theatre on March 31. While she did not confirm the date on which the incident occurred, the fan went on an angry rant on Twitter, claiming that security requested to touch her chest to check if there was recording equipment hidden there.

In addition, she claimed that a manager asked her to lift her clothes up so that he could also check her behind, dragging her by the arm to the entrance while she was walking to her seat.

In a press release which was also put up on the venue's homepage, S.M. declared that her claims were contrary to what was recorded by the CCTVs at the venue, and that no form of harassment took place during the fan’s visit. They have also met with the person involved ahead of taking legal action against her.

Lena Headey shocked by nurse fan

Lena Headey was mortified when a nurse quoted 'Game of Thrones' while helping her breastfeed.

The 42-year-old actress - whose alter ego in the HBO drama, Cersei Lannister, was 'shamed' during the season five finale by having to walk through the streets of King's Landing naked as punishment for adultery - was getting to grips with nursing her baby daughter in the days after she was born last July and couldn't believe what happened when she sought some lactation advice from hospital staff.

Speaking to 'Late Late Show' host James Corden, Lena - who also has six-year-old son Wylie with ex-husband Peter Loughran - recalled: "In the early stages of breastfeeding, you have to kind of get the milk in, that takes a bit of 'hand milking' of sorts.

"So my fella was trying to do it and the nurse said to me, 'I think we should swap,' and I went, 'Yeah,' because I was about to punch him because it was like milking a goat.

"She came around and sat next to me and squeezed my nipple and went, 'Shame.'

"She was holding my nipple so I couldn't really -- and then she said it again and then I saw her go, 'I'm sorry!' She was like, 'I can't believe I said that!' "

The British actress - who has not disclosed the name of her daughter or the identity of his father - recently explained why she used body double Rebecca Van Cleave for her infamous nude scene, insisting she wouldn't have been in the right frame emotionally if she'd done it herself.

She said: " I've done nudity. I'm not adverse to it. But I know I'm a very emotional actor and I get really driven by that. In order to do my job, I allow myself to be really vulnerable.

"I don't know any other way to do my job. Things really affect me.

"And the thought of being naked for three days and trying to contain her in the way she would be I think I would feel very angry. I didn't want to be angry. I don't think Cersei would be angry. I did what I thought she would do, emotionally.

"And wonderful Rebecca was able to contain herself and be naked. She found it very difficult, obviously. It's not a natural thing to do."

Shu Qi furious at Weibo’s photo takedown order

Taiwanese actress and model Shu Qi, 40, was so angry about a photo takedown order she received from Weibo that she posted her exchange with the social network’s employee on her page.

Shu Qi’s photo was reported for containing elements of advertising, a claim she tried to argue against, but Weibo’s representative wouldn’t give her a straightforward reply and directed her to send in her feedback via other channels.

The actress had attended a Bulgari cocktail event in Beijing on Monday wearing bright jewels and a gauzy dress. That night, she uploaded a photo of herself at the event, but later she received the takedown order.

Chinese actor Chen Kun, 40, commented on Shu Qi’s post: “The other party must have been a bot, you don’t have to pay it any attention.” Shu Qi replied, “Bots are so advanced now.”

Jay Chou stays up gaming till daybreak

Taiwanese singer Jay Chou, 37, announced on Tuesday that he has established a competitive e-sports team called J Gaming, though he said gaming was just a hobby of his and he had no intention of competing in tournaments himself.

While making an appearance at a gaming event two days ago, the new father said to relax after recording sessions he often plays video games from 2 a.m. until dawn, which helps when his 9-month-old daughter, Hathaway, wakes up hungry.

“I can prepare her formula really quickly,” he said. “I measure out the amount of formula beforehand and it’s convenient that way. If I were asleep, I’d have to get out of bed.”

The singer is a huge fan of online battle arena game League of Legends, and he’s become their spokesman and even written its theme song.

But when asked whether his late-night gaming habit meant he slept apart from his wife, model and actress Hannah Quinlivan, Jay said, “Of course not! I play my video games at the table in our room.”

The couple married in early 2015 and Hathaway was born last July.

Ryan Gosling's Blade Runner 2 release bumped up to 2017

'Blade Runner 2' will be released earlier than expected in 2017.

Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford's sequel to Ridley Scott's 1982 classic was initially due to come out in cinemas on January 12, 2018, but Alcon Entertainment has announced the date has been bumped up to October 2017.

The news will delight fans of the science fiction fantasy - which originally starred the veteran actor and depicted a dystopian Los Angeles in which genetically manufactured beings called replicants were used for dangerous work in Earth's colonies in outer space.

Ridley is on board as an executive producer with 'Sicario' director Denis Villeneuve helming the sequel from a screenplay by the original film's co-writer, Hampton Fancher, and 'Green Lantern' co-writer Michael Green.

Filming for the sequel - which will also star House of Cards' actress Robin Wright - will begin in July.

Plot details for the film are being kept under wraps, but it is believed to be set several decades after the first movie, in which Harrison played a burnt-out special police operative Rick Deckard, known as a Blade Runner, who takes on one last assignment.

Speaking previously about the script and Harrison's involvement, Ridley said: "It's written and it's damn good. Of course it involves Harrison, who is a survivor after all these years. So yes, that will happen."

Entertainer off to a weak start

Following the wrap of Come Back, Mister (Rain, Oh Yeon Seo), Entertainer (Ji Sung, Hyeri) has started its run as of April 20.

This project was highly anticipated as the follow up to Ji Sung and Hyeri’s hit dramas, Kill Me, Heal Me and Reply 1988 respectively. Unfortunately, the series came out last in its time slot, scoring an average of 6.2 per cent of ratings (AGB Nielsen).

In the same time slot, Descendants of the Sun’s (Song Joong Ki, Song Hye Kyo) special episode led the pack with 17.7 per cent ratings, whereas Goodbye Mr. Black (Lee Jin Wook, Moon Chae Young) rounded up the three major networks’ dramas with an 8.1 per cent rating.

While the majority of the episode was dominated by Ji Sung’s screen time, viewers were quick to point out that the story seemed predictable and boring, whereas others commented that Hyeri’s lack of experience has caused her to not be able to fill her leading lady role well.

With a 17-year age gap between the two leads, it remains to be seen if they will be able to convincingly portray their romance in the series, in addition to living up to the mammoth expectations placed on their pair to make their current project as big as a success as their previous works.

Living apart makes it harder to have a baby: Tay Kewei

Local singer-songwriter Tay Kewei is currently in the midst of preparing for her first large-scale solo concert, which will be held in June this year. She announced that the concert, titled ‘Chi’, will be held in June this year and also played the piano and performed her self-composed song, ‘This Too Shall Pass’ amongst other works, at a press conference held last Thursday.

Later, in her interview with Toggle, Kewei, who recently vacationed in Hokkaido, Japan with her husband, gave us an update on her married life with fellow singer Alfred Sim, after tying the knot in January last year.

Unbeknownst to many, the two of them still live separately at their respective family homes, and will only move into their new marital house at Whampoa next year.

Living apart has made it “really difficult” for them to have a baby and it is the main reason “why we haven’t succeeded” in getting pregnant, said Kewei.

The singer-songwriter also revealed that they have yet to meet each other since coming back from their holiday to Hokkaido last week and added that there is no ‘made in Japan’ baby too. “Sadly, there’s still no baby for us,” revealed Kewei, who shared that she is “a little disappointed” as she wishes to have children.

Another reason why the couple isn’t in a hurry to start a family is due to their developing careers: Alfred filmed Channel 8 drama, Don’t Worry, Be Healthy last year and released his solo album Alfred early this year while Kewei is busy with preparations for her solo concert.

“We don’t have fixed working hours, so it’s hard for us to meet,” she explained.

During the interview, the 32-year-old also shared more details about her upcoming concert, and expressed her desire to work with homegrown singer JJ Lin, choosing him as someone she’ll like to have as a special guest at her concert. If given a chance to perform with him, she hopes to be able to sing his self-composed song, ‘Beautiful’, together with him, said Kewei.

“I’m not sure if JJ will come if I invited him, I used to be a backup singer for him,” she let on.

Other than JJ, Kewei also shared that she’s looking forward to having her dad onstage as her special guest.

“My dad plays the bamboo flute, and I play the erhu. On that day, we can collaborate and perform a few songs together.”

Finally, when asked if her husband Alfred will be making an appearance at her concert as well, she laughingly said, “I will force him to sing at my concert, but I wouldn’t pay him for it.”

Joanne Peh and Quan Yi Fong finally graduate, while Jayley Woo bags her first trophy

The Star Awards 2016 Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes is a significant one for several of its latest winners. For Joanne Peh and Quan Yi Fong, who both picked up their tenth gongs, it was the very last time they got to participate in the race, as they will finally graduate to All-Time Favourite Artiste status next year.

As they exit the competition, they make way for new blood to dominate the list. After failing to triumph in this category last year, Jayley Woo has finally won her first award not just in this category, but of her whole career. To sweeten the deal, the 24-year-old received her trophy from guest presenter Park Hae Jin, and the well-known Hallyu wave fan could not help but appear flustered on stage, and even asked her “oppa” for a hug.

This year also marks the return of Jesseca Liu to the list after a five-year absence due to her expired contract with Mediacorp, which was renewed last year. After she finished her acceptance speech, the scene sneakily shifted to focus on Jeremy Chan, whom she is rumoured to be dating, but the actress refused to comment when we asked her about it.

In a backstage interview with Toggle, Rebecca Lim admitted that she did not expect to win because of her recent “retiring” controversy that threatened to mar her almost-perfect image. She said that even her friends, family and peers worried for her, but their unwavering support remained and she managed to clinch her fifth Top 10 trophy last night.
