Xiu Jie Kai won't make step daughter call him "dad"

Taiwanese actor Xiu Jie Kai, 33, said he doesn't make his 10-year-old stepdaughter, Angelina Sun, call him ‘dad.’ Instead, he prefers to stay her ‘Uncle Xiu.’

While attending a children’s traffic safety event yesterday, Jie Kai reiterated that though his wife, Taiwanese actress Alyssa Chia, 41, and their 5-month-old daughter, nicknamed “Bu Bu,” were busy filming Chinese reality television programme Super Mom, Angelina had not been neglected.

Alyssa and Angelina appeared at Jie Kai’s event, and the actress pretended to sneak paparazzi shots of him. But when Angelina called him ‘Uncle Xiu,’ Jie Kai gave her a look to order her to step away.

Alyssa recently explained that she had an agreement with Sun Zhihao, her ex-husband and Angelina’s father, that the girl’s face will not be exposed in public. So when a 30-person filming crew and 40 cameras descended on their house to film the daily lives of Alyssa and “Bu Bu” over 20 days, Jie Kai tried his best to keep Angelina out of the recordings.

The actor was initially afraid that “Bu Bu” would be affected by the activity, but the infant turned out to be a natural in front of cameras and would smile at everyone.

As for his impending military service, it’s been postponed to May, he said. “It’s about time, the paperwork has been done,” he said. He has faced criticism for putting off his mandatory military service.

The couple married last year just before “Bu Bu” was born in August.
